Say someone lived in a wide open area and wanted to hunt deer; what are some flat shooting rounds for someone who wants to reach out to say 1,000 yards?
While we’re at it, what are some advantages and disadvantages of using a longer range round like that instead of staying within 500 yards with say a 30-06 or something?

Can't really fight physics. Even the most overpowered ELR cartridges will take enough time to make the 1k trip so that a deer might just decide to take a few steps the millisecond you pull the trigger. You did everything right, but you end up with a miss or a wound/gut shot or something.

Shits just unethical.

There's zero chance you'd ever be forced to take a 1000 yard shot at a whitetail without having the opportunity to get closer

,338 Win mag is most practical caliber for 1000 yard goodness.
That said 40yr ago fucking around laying tween RR tracks using a rail as a pillow a friend suggested using the slab-side of a 1911A1 clone for azimuth and muscle memory or elevation was 80% dropping plain lead standard velocity .45acp slugs in the ends of upturned 5' pipes. Took 4 seconds to get there. Reliably reported but i wasn't there a friend who reloaded his own Foster slugs and shot them out of a 12 ga Remington 11oo slug gun was better than 60% hip shooting running coyotes. I spent a windless day out on the prairie shooting 30,06 out of a scoped Rem 742. Handloaded Hornady boat-tailed spirepoints. Set up a little shooting bench in back of a pickup. Damn fine optical rangefinder. Started at 100yd and zeroed it. Then moved down the down the road making correction to stay zeroed. Flettner Effect got noticeable at 750 yd i.e. RH twist barr'l sending them out nose high, gyro effect kept them same angle as the relative airflow changed = noticeable drift to left. Finally at 1000 20% would be yawing left when they hit the plywood. Other 80% you could tell were just hitting nose-high. They were all still hitting in a 30" circle but I quit then knowing they would have gone all over from any farther away. Cool thing about shooting that far was I felt like I got my time.money, reloading-effort paid back very well = lot of time-of-flight.

If you’re shooting at whitetail from 1000 yards, you’re a retard and doing it wrong.

It might be cooming right at him, purely defensive. A good shoot.

.28 Nosler, 7mm PRC, 7mm STW, the various 7mm+ ultra-magnums, etc. Hope you have deep pockets.

There are zero fucking advantages to not taking the closest practical shot. The deer can't return fire. The deer can't call in air support. You are not in danger from the deer. Unless you're hunting in Alaska-tier wilderness the chance of not being able to get inside of 300 yards is remote and at those distances almost anything will work just fine.

I don't think there's anywhere around me where you can even see for 1000 yards

What are fags that worry about such shit doing on 4chan? Nothing better to do with your life? Pathetic. It's 2:30 in the afternoon here and I just finished welding closed a catalytic converter on a little pickup that needed it gutted. REALLY filthy, bunch of minor spark burns. Tell me about your life so I can mock you.

Purely out of a hypothetical- what if someone lives like out in the desert or somewhere, and wants to defend their homestead?
