the u.s. marine corps is built on unnecessary stress for no added benefit:
>wear winter-weight nyco twill in the jungle & desert
>can't wear cammies off base

>have to be clean shaven when on leave
>cool guy schools only open to marsoc/raiders

>granted permission to separate early due to winning multi-millions lotto? general discharge.
>complete your service and separate on time with no misconduct? general discharge.
>retirement? general discharge.
>back & knees too busted post-service to be active in a well-regulated militia
>every sign on base is painted red, activating a primal level of unnecessary stress daily

Why worry about that? They're mostly going to ask for clarification on any issued with your answers. For example, when I did mine, I had a brain fart and accidentally marked on my sf86 that I was still in high school despite having graduated 5 years previously. The interviewer was basically like "this was a mistake right?" and I was like "yeah my bad I'm kinda retarded" and we both laughed and moved on. No reason to worry unless you're an actual terrorist or foreign spy.

air force is a mix. some people ship oddly quick.

>>
>>64826394
>back & knees too busted post-service to be active in a well-regulated militia
My personal opinion, rifleman in the National Guard is the best choice for anons that want to do this.
Not even in the sense of "the National Guard IS the militia" meme that some people ignorantly spout, but -
>same initial training as US Army infantry
>your body will have time to recover between drill periods
>can take care of yourself to a non military standard when not drilling or called up
>you'll presumably do a lot of your field training in your home state
>that means so will your platoon buddies that you can network with
>if you do deploy overseas, more likely to be to a "combat zone" than plenty of active duty Army and Marine units
Also, a big perk is - unless I'm mistaken, you'll know what battalion you're joining up with. So, you'll know if they're good or ass.
>>
>>64830847
I always wondered, why do we ship off NG to deployments? It seems counter intuitive to send them instead of active duty guys.
If a NG Batallion starts taking heavy losses, it might take them years to recover the manpower compared to an active duty batallion.
Active duty guys cant really deployment dodge as easy either and have more field experience by default so why do they send NG?
>>
>>64831168
Deployments provide excellent experience, so it gives NG a chance to develop experience that isn't really possible here. The difference between learning and doing.

When I say "training" I mainly mean quality of training once you're at your unit.

105k is garbage tier money in today's age even with whatever pathetic benefits are offered.
100k used to be "I hit the job jackpot and the only thing I have to worry about is showing up to work" now it's "I have a decently competitive wage compared to the poorfags but don't have total security".
With 100k and conservative living expenses you still have to work ten years to get enough money to fully own a house outright.
That isn't even considering what if you have debt going into your 100k job or get fired or accrue debt from emergency spending/bad spending.
Yes this is financial advice and it's coming from an anon in a thread on /k/. I don't care. 100k is just the peak of the iceberg in terms of fuck you money. Anyone who had to earn money to live outside of the military could understand that.
That being said the military doesnt do shit to make you rich or get you "fuck you" money. You still have to do that yourself. A lot of people choose the comfort over being rich and that's fine.

Best bet is to talk to somebody you know that’s in right now (not your uncle who served 30 years ago).

Reddit is useless and full of motards who will tell you that you’ll go to prison if you lie about your middle school inhaler.

This place has more trolls than real people at this point, so it’s borderline useless.

Recruiters won’t give you the real deal. They’re just tryna find the medically perfect, no criminal history, 92 ASVAB unicorn so they can meet quota.

But no, just one mentally ill loser who treats trolling 4Chan like a full-time job (with overtime). If Robert actually made it into the Army, he’d be halfway to retirement by now. Probably an E-6 or 7 given his tremendous work ethic (at least his trolling work ethic).

Unless you have a job in mind, I wouldn’t bother retaking. You qualify for most jobs. Recruiters just hate when retards score a 35 and then also need a bunch of waivers. It’s a lot of work for a bottom of the barrel candidate. Your score is fine. Not wowing anyone, but you qualify for more than 3 jobs.

>If it was 80+, it really won’t do you much good to take it again.
>What about someone who scored 80, and then they retook it and managed to score 9
I think you jump into another “tier” of candidates, but still doesn’t really change anything.

>What DQed you?
It's apparently because of my "medical history and medications" that I was on.
They gave me shit that I probably shouldn't have been on, and all my major problems started happening after my treatment had begun. It makes the original reasons why I needed treatment look like nothing in comparison. And wouldn't you know, I've been the most stable I've ever been after a different neurological treatment, and taking me off all medications... So, now my on-paper-life is ruined forever, all because of the shit medical industry. And no, I never had a physical at MEPS, but they DQ'd me anyway.

>INB4 but you're being erratic, so you're not """"stable""""
Because every time I need something from literally anyone, everyone becomes incompetent fucking morons! This isn't even exclusive to the Military, and no one ever likes to listen to me, apparently. Why don't you expose *anyone* to that much undue stress and see how they act? Haven't you ever seen The Game (1997)?... Michael Douglas becomes an asshole, and that's not even the worst of it!

>Recruiters just hate when retards score a 35 and then also need a bunch of waivers.
They're already acting like they hate that I scored a 74 and need a bunch of waivers! It doesn't help that one of my recruiters had a "medical emergency" and they had to put me with someone different, and this new guy is acting like he doesn't really care about anything, especially when compared to the last guy... And no, I didn't ask what happened.

Oh yeah, and they want me to collect notes from all the doctors that diagnosed me saying that they fucked up (some of which aren't even my regular doctors), but there's probably no way I'm gonna be able to do that without an attorney threatening to sue.
>>
>>64844454
Dude we said this before.
You cant get disqualified before MEPS.
Your recruiter cant DQ you before MEPS.
You could have googled that answer but you came here to type essays multiple times instead and wasted weeks of time.
Regardless of the circumstances, you really aren't helping your case.
>they want me to collect notes from all the doctors
They are actually helping you. Your recruiter(s) told you what you need to do to proceed.
This is also proof that they did not "disqualify" you because DQ means you have no potential path forward towards enlistment PERIOD.
>>64844924
Why are you so lazer-focused on going the legal route?
Why not just, I don't know, fucking talk to people?
Why sue? I don't get it.
>>
I swear, trying to help some people is so fruitless that it might as well be a resident troll you ate talking to.
>>
>>64845129
>You cant get disqualified before MEPS.
Well, they apparently did.
>Your recruiter cant DQ you before MEPS.
When I said that, my third recruiter just stopped responding to my messages. I'd like to think the second one wouldn't have, but he's out of commission due to sudden health issues.
>They are actually helping you. Your recruiter(s) told you what you need to do to proceed.
When I asked my third recruiter which doctors were the most problematic for them that I needed notes from, he also didn't respond.
>This is also proof that they did not "disqualify" you because DQ means you have no potential path forward towards enlistment PERIOD.
That's not even what my third recruiter said. When I asked him about getting requalified (after he told me I was permanently DQ'd), he told me "The letters of misdiagnosis would be your strongest chance". He said nothing about it being unnegotiable when I asked if there were no exceptions, and when I looked that up it said "permanently" wasn't literally permanent, apparently. It seemed to mean "until further notice", and now I'm being told something different by you.

>Why are you so lazer-focused on going the legal route?
What other route is there?
>Why not just, I don't know, fucking talk to people?
I am, but I don't know why everyone is being so dodgey and elusive; and I'm sure you can understand my frustration of getting so much mixed info from everyone. None of this makes any sense, even from actual personnel who's identity I can verify!
>Why sue? I don't get it.
Because why would any doctor or medical professional willingly say that they fucked up and misdiagnosed someone, especially in writing?...
>>
>>64845171
I just can't figure out why they're treating me like persona non grata. No one is telling me anything.

>he also didn't respond.
Pro tip they do not take you seriously one bit over the phone. Simply texting or cold calling isnt going to work, you have to show up in person for real answers.
Not insulting you but this seems like a competence issue from you unironically.
>now I'm being told something different by you.
OK? Regardless, you are acting as if you couldn't have figured out 1/2 of your questions through google before typing multiple giant essays here for weeks on end.
>None of this makes any sense,
Only because you are spending weeks worrying about things you could have an answer for if you just showed up in person.
>Because why would any doctor
Who said ask them for malpractice?
Why is it so important to prove malpractice? Unless that is actually the issue.
>>
>>64845216
>Why say this over text or phone? At all.
Because that's how they're contacting me. They seem to get annoyed when I just show up unsolicitedly, and I can't just call the main station because any numbers I could find on Google were out of service. I'll show up in person more if I need to, but I can't coordinate any proper time-allocated meeting when I can't get ahold of anyone.
>Pro tip they do not take you seriously one bit over the phone. Simply texting or cold calling isnt going to work, you have to show up in person for real answers.
>Not insulting you but this seems like a competence issue from you unironically.
This third recruiter I never even met before, and he seems to take me the least seriously. They just stuck me with him, and he was asking me what he needed to do, as if they didn't tell him anything either!
>OK? Regardless, you are acting as if you couldn't have figured out 1/2 of your questions through google before typing multiple giant essays here for weeks on end.
Google is telling me different things than you are, too.
>Only because you are spending weeks worrying about things you could have an answer for if you just showed up in person.
Okay, I'll show up more, regardless if I can get ahold of anyone beforehand to tell them I'm coming.
>Who said ask them for malpractice?
They didn't, those are my words, because that's also what happened in my medical history.
>Why is it so important to prove malpractice? Unless that is actually the issue.
The issue is being told by everyone that I've been permanently DQ'd even when I shouldn't have. If there was some computer error, then that is obviously a problem, but how can I address this when none of my recruiters are cooperating with me? Am I just supposed to call MEPS directly?
>>
>>64845129
Also, to address a couple inconsistencies:
>You cant get disqualified before MEPS.
Google says I can.
>Your recruiter cant DQ you before MEPS.
Google says they can, but then I just need a waiver to get requalified.*
>This is also proof that they did not "disqualify" you because DQ means you have no potential path forward towards enlistment PERIOD.
*What you're saying is literally just wrong according to Google.

In the modern United States Navy, a midshipman is classified as an officer of the line, though their exercise of authority is limited by their training status.[93] Legally, midshipmen are a special grade of uncommissioned officer that ranks between the senior noncommissioned enlisted grade (E-9) and the lowest grade of chief warrant officer (W-2, in the U.S. Coast Guard, which does not currently use the grade of warrant officer (W-1))[93][94][A 6] or warrant officer (W-1), U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, or U.S. Marine Corps.[A 7]

This is a stupid, stupid question, so please be patient with me.
I am lawyer.
A networking group that my firm belongs to had a mention in one of their emails that my state's National Guard is looking for part time JAG lawyers.
I thought about getting into one of the JAG Corps when I was fresh out of law school, and I went as far as starting to fill out the application for the Air Force JAG but I gave up because I thought they wouldn't accept me.
How stupid of an idea is it to apply to that? It seems interesting, and a second job may not be a bad idea.
Is there any one who did apply as a National Guard JAG lawyer? Or was a JAG at some point?
Am I too old? I am in my mid thirties.
I am nerd with an office job who is slightly overweight, but otherwise in good health. Would that be a problem?
What kind of commitment is that? A weekend a month is doable, but long term deployments are going to be a problem. I already work for a small firm, so they would miss me if were to be away for a long time. I also have a house and dog to take care of.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

To strike the killing blow while the day is just starting for our poor Ephialtes, I want to add that the Greek word for 'nightmare' is εφιάλτης, for he truly did come from the place of nightmares.

If service in the US military was as pointless and worthless as our Ephialtes has spent years insist it is, then he would not be haunted by the ceaseless nightmares of rejection and denial that haunt his conscience. I am sure many of us have applied to jobs for which we were not selected, yet I have yet to witness a single, suffering soul groan and moan over rejection from a door-to-door insurance sales, online customer service, or some other entry-level role.

Here we have a specimen that has sacrificed more years of his life denigrating a role than he would have spent serving in it. It must have meant so much to him for him to still implicitly acknowledge the value by investing so much of his time in discussion about it. He even espouses the benefits of joining a local militia, serving in a simulacrum of the role he was denied.

All poor Ephialtes wanted to be was "one of the boys" drinking beers and swapping jokes around the backyard bonfire. Instead, he morphed into a twisted monster, languishing like Dostoevsky's Underground Man, forgotten by all but those who detest his existence. In time, he will be forgotten by all, gone from memory before his physical death, his body unceremoniously cremated when it is discovered by a stranger who noticed an unusual odor emanating from a forgotten corner of their apartment building.

Well, unfortunately, the Army wont help you get into vet school. You need an acceptance letter to start the process. That being said,

>what can the Army offer me?
They will pay for your entire education. If you need it for school, aside from a laptop, they will pay for it. Tuition, books, stethoscope, whatever. On top of that, you get a monthly stipend ($2600ish as of time of writing), and usually a signing bonus of up to $20k in my experience though i heard rumors that it went up for some specialties. Then, while in, you will get what is, from my understanding, a very competitive pay as a vet without the ridiculous price of vet school. The vets I talked to in training told me their school was as expensive as med school but the pay was significantly less, whereas in the military a captain physician and a captain vet make about the same amount.

>is it too late?
Not at all. I went to training with a 48 year-old oromaxillofacial surgeon. If you still want to be a vet, it was always going to take 4 years. Youre going to be 40 one day anyways, may as well be 40 and a vet.

>should I ....?
Up to you, but I would at least talk to a medical recruiter and get an idea of what it would look like for you. I've enjoyed it, I would not have been able to go to medical school if it weren't for the Army. I have kids so the stipend and lack of loans hanging over my head have been a lifesaver. I'll make less than my colleagues for a few years, but I also wont have to fight insurance for payment, won't pay malpractice insurance, and get some benefits during my service. YMMV. Be informed, but if youre even a little bit interested, talking to a recruiter is a low risk time investment. Medical recruiters are still recruiters, but you benefit from them knowing theyre recruiting People who know how to shower, have been to college, and are generally better at reading a contract than the average enlistee.
>>
>>64850680
Broski I just think we gotta go for it. I know what you mean. It's not that I'm gonna do something absurd like lash out at a DS but just the thought of being there makes me nervous.

Statistically once we make it past meps, we have a near guarantee of making it a full contract.
>>
>>64850712
I recognize now that the second paragraph is poorly written.

Tl;dr
Vet school = expensive
Vet pay = good, but not as much as MD/DO

Military Vet pay and military MD pay are about the same.

Therefore, HPSP is a very good deal for vets from a financial perspective.

Moomin pic
>>
>>64850725
Just quick Google, mean vet pay is approx $140k, vet school approx $200-400k. You'd be making approx $75-100k and not owing a cent.

I will be making approx $90k as a new grad doctor in residency, I'm not sure how much attendings make but its not the mean $300k+ of the civilian world afaik.
>>
>>64850749
Ouch, so you're looking at a minimum of 5 years to pay off your student loans if you have a very forgiving living situation.
>>
>>64850938
That's the nice thing about HPSP: no student loans. For vets, it seems like a no-brainer to me. Physicians give up like $300k over the course of service time for the opportunity, and that's only if theyre in a 3-4 year residency. High-paying specialties like anesthesia, orthopedics, dermatology, ophthalmology, other surgical specialties are leaving millions on the table.

That being said, military medical training is excellent across the board. It's not like the VA, MTFs are very good places to train. Many military medical concepts become civilian gold standards, especially in areas like trauma - the DoD is basically the leading edge in trauma medicine.

For me, I always wanted to serve but never found a way in that made sense for my long-term life goals, until medicine came into the picture. It makes sense for me, but it's a big tradeoff financially for a few years.
>>
>>64851002

Hello, I am thinking about joining up with my country's military. Not the US unfortunately as it seems like that's what this thread's really about, but I just have a question about the preliminary interview they do and the questions they ask, i.e. things like "Why do you want to join your chosen service? How do you feel about being deployed to an area of conflict? What skills, interests or experience do you bring to your chosen trade? What were the reasons that you left your last place of employment?"

The advice I see given in many forums is a) be honest, and b) treat it like a normal interview. Except I lie my ass off in normal interviews. The truthful answers to the aforementioned questions would be along the lines of this: "I'm joining up because I have no education or training and see this as steady employment with future career potential" and "I'd feel fucking terrible about hurting other people" and "I bring literally nothing to the table to my chosen trade, I'm hoping you'll train me for free while I serve".

That's too truthful, right? If I was to lie, I'd say some shit like "I wish to join because I'm motivated by service and structure, I've thought about the demands of military life and I'm ready to commit to them," and "I have considered the risks and impact deploying in a combat zone might have, but I am prepared for it as I believe in doing my part as a member of the military."

But I'm sure they receive soulless, prepared answers like this all the fucking time and see right through it. So what's the go, anons? What am I expected to say? What do they expect to hear?

Dumb question but I ship out in April from San Antonio. Are we going to take a bus all the way to Fort Sill or are they gonna put us on a plane, head to Oklahoma, and then bus to Fort Sill?
>>
Made it from 10 to 40 pushups in a month. Maybe I do actually have a chance at being a solder or something. It's probably a laughable amount at 40 still, but you know, I'm proud of myself.
>>
>>64854878
You have done well. I can manage about thirty before I tire out. What I need work on is endurance for running. Push ups, sit ups, jumping jacks, I can do all that. Running.
Running I cannot do. My lungs ache and burn after a few moments.
>>
>>64854903
The apft would have been impossible for you to pass. The acft is a joke.
>>
>>64854971
The Recruiter has been gathering everyone to meet once a week so that we can all exercise and weigh in. Folks that are over weight are encouraged to lose whilst those under are encouraged to eat, that sort. My original 2-Mile was abysmal, nearly half an hour. I've got it down to around twenty five minutes but still. Throat burns, lungs and nostrils burn, still running though.
>>
>>64855012
Height/weight? How much are you running throughout the week?
The good news is that for most people of normal weight, just running regularly will eventually get your conditioning to the point that you can pass the 2-mile. A lot of people report running their best times at BCT, and a big reason is because they're just running more.
>>
>>64855033
I don't always have time but I run for about half an hour twice a week. The time with the recruiter, and on my day off work in the morning. I'm 5'9" and 155lbs. I lost five pounds over December to January so, hurray I think. I walk to work so every now and then I'll break into a small jog between light posts, though I can't sustain it.
>>
>>64855012
>whilst those under are encouraged to eat
People say just eat more to gain weight, but it ends up being impossible and I don't know why. In any case it feels like it doesn't happen fast enough, and it just starts to feel like a chore when I'm not hungry.
>>
>>64855044
Keep at it and stay consistent. How long do you have before you ship?
>>
>>64855152
Its not so much "Just eat more!" as it is what you're eating as well. If you're underweight you need to take in more calories on the whole, not just bigger portions. You can eat twenty pounds of apples but those apples won't sustain you. Bread, nuts and beans, potatoes, cheese, those are all what you should be eating ontop of your meat and vegetables. How its prepared also affects it, don't just boil that stuff away, grill it or sautee it. Oils help.
>>
>>64855160
Literally adding olive oil to everything you eat is an easy way to add kcals to so many different food options. Turn your dinner bread into Italian herb and olive oil bread. Turn your salad into a Greek salad. Fry your chicken wings with olive oil instead of breading them. Drizzle your spaghetti with olive oil instead of tomato sauce.
>>
>>64855170
Hell, skip the olive oil on cooking your breakfast or dinner and use fucking lard. Theres a reason we as humans used lard to cook for thousands of years. I've begun eating more but thats just because I've been feeling hungrier.
>Normal breakfast is two eggs, two pieces of toast.
>Now its three eggs, three pieces of toast, and two tomatoes.

Like I always say, you really should not be doing the eccentric on the AFT.
Push and just drop. You'll tire out your triceps first if you control yourself to the bottom.
Hand-release is easy as shit because you get to rest a half second in between reps.
It's a joke not to do 30-40 minimum hand-release pushups as an adult male on the AFT.
The only reason they let you pass with lower is they have crap standards to include as many twig arm nerd POGs and grandpa 1SGs as possible.
You have a whole 2 minutes to do it also. Mind over matter that shit. Hua.
>>
>>64855285
Buddy the last time I tried to push myself to the limit when it came to running I collapsed five minutes in wheezing and haggard, and it sounded like something was growling in the pit of my throat.

Have you ever been tested for asthma (or similar)?
>>
>>64855012
The minimum score for the acft is like 23 mins or something. The old pt test the minimum was like 16:30.

This new test you can basically roll out of bed after a bender and pass it.
>>
>>64855657
It's now 19 minutes and change. Still slow, but if yiu struggle to run a 20 minute 2 mile you need to train to pass.
>>

Lardmaxxing is too powerful for a mere mortal. The brain is mostly composed of fat, so feeding your body more fat has a positive impact on the mind as well.
>>
>>64855602
When I was a boy, but it came back negative. Recruiter asked the same thing.
>>64855657
I don't want to be one of those fellas that roll out of bed and get it done, I want to at least get it within 15:00, but so far my time is around 25:00~ ish.
>>
>>64855412
>>64855997
You don't have asthma.
You have a conditioning issue that can be overcome with training.
Run on a consistent schedule for a month. Three days a week. 30 minute runs, ignore distance.
You will improve your cardio leaps and bounds.
Stop if your shins or knees hurt, but always do short warm up sprints, high kicks, stretching.
Do recovery exercises, train the full legs on your last day of the regimen.
>>
>>64856371
I see. Do you think I can get this regimented before I ship out in April if I start today?

>>
>>64856414
There was a time I couldn't run a quarter mile without my sides hurting. Now I can run 5 miles easily.

Set a routine, run for as long as you can, don't worry about speed or distance but also work in sprints and really anything to get your heart rate up. You need to be outside running your ass off for the next 2 months and at night do upper body and core. If you can just get to a mile or two of running you'll be in fine shape for basic.

I know it's what you don't wanna hear, but the solution truly is running more.
>>
>>64856712
I will try. I will try. If the solution is truly that simple, then I need to get off my butt and start doing it.

>Contact Navy Officer Recruiter for BDCP in December
>3.96 GPA
>Get a 49 OAR
>He seems optimistic of my chances for Supply
>Sends me a bunch of forms to fill out
>Fill them out and send them
>He just cuts contact and won't answer me since December 15th
What the actual fuck do I do here? I kinda needed the money from BDCP ASAP and the board is this month. I can graduate within a year if I take a summer semester so I can contact the Air Force recruiter asking for OTS but that's going to suck for my financial situation to wait around

How bad do you want your selected job?
Combined association between all your contacts has to be 7(?) years right?
>Teachers
>High school "friends"
>College classmates?
>Neighbors
>Online "friends"
>Rent-a-reference online?

If you are willing to settle for something without a security clearance you can change MOS still, right?
Reclassing is a bitch though. If you got something you want in mind you should try to enlist as that job.

You can 100% achieve whatever you put your mind to do.
If a month from now you get tired of the training regimen you put on, then you aren't going to be all that you can be.
If you start today/tomorrow, stay on schedule and leave in April you are going to make it.
Start your first couple days light dont hurt yourself before basic.
If you start running and training consistently, thats already half the battle.
Not quitting and not taking shortcuts is the other half. And not getting hurt.
>>
>>64857854
Not him but yeah army applicants have to do that for jobs with sec clearance. I had to.
>>
>>64857916
>Combined association between all your contacts has to be 7(?) years right?
Not him, but they didn't even tell me that.

And what do you mean by "combined"? Can I know one person for 6 years and 11 months and the other two people for half a month, and it'll still count?
>>
>>64857933
Its not a matter of quitting. I can't quit. I need something that can support the family and, unfortunately, after months of searching, I can't find a better job nor a second one, so this is the last resort. I cannot quit. I will serve out my time to the best of my power, and then, collect the money therehence. Thats why I selected my MOS. Good pay there and its skills will transfer.

>>64858050
