lets you carry with one in the pipe and it has a decocker, more freedom with holsters because of this and it literally cannot fire even if you drop it because the firing pin is completely blocked, even if somehow the hammer gets pulled back and drops
trigger would need to be upgraded to be like that but ergonomics and feel would basically be the same
plus if you get the 92x performance down the line, all the mags, sights, parts(mostly), will all be interchangeable between them
i also wouldnt want to carry the 92x performance because they have such light triggers and easy to move safeties since its a competition gun, they are also too beautiful to want to scuff up from carrying

17k rounds is a lot and its expected parts will break well before that kind of round count but its also a competition gun where a lot of people shoot reloads, shoot fast, and modify/swap parts from stock
you need to get that additional information to make a good judgement call, when you look at competition guns things get more into the specifics because more often than not people are modifying them and running them hard with non-standard ammo
its like looking at a review of a performance car where people are driving it hard, tuning it, and swapping parts out, the failure couldve came from the modifications or from non-standard use

The P230, P232, P229 are also all quite nice. The P238 and P938 are very cool but you'll want the stainless one-piece guide rod that's perpetually out of stock - the OEM is a two-piece polymer contraption that ends up breaking super easily. Nothing wrong with polymer rods that are one-piece though I understand why some people hunt for metallic replacements regardless.

The grip texture on the 5 sucked. This isn't going to be worse for IWB. Lose some weight and maybe you won't have a ton of lard pushing your skin against your grip hard. I carry a fucking metal textured grip and it doesn't bother me. The gas pedal is just a small lip in the spot where your thumb would go. Many other handguns are adding one there in the exact same way. It's at most a plus for someone who wants it and at worse it's a nothingburger. The beavertail everyone was whining about in the gen 5 for getting slide bite. There isn't a new mounting pattern. They provide the plates in the box now for you to mount whatever. I carry a Beretta 92 with an aggressive grip texture and don't hurt my skin because I'm not a thin skinned fat faggot. There's no reason for normal people to be worried about the Gen 6 texture. I'm aware of what it feels like to get a metal beavertail jammed into me. The M&P texture is peak. These textures will eat at your clothes over time but that's a minor price to pay, and clothes don't last forever anyways. Wear a cheap undershirt and/or overshirt. They're a boutique Glock clone company that got "big" making racier Glocks, adding things like slide cuts and fluted barrels and light, Overwatch-style triggers and whatnot. Their biggest selling point is probably the direct mount optics system, and the fact that they make the extractor channel shorter to prevent optics screw interference, which can happen on Glocks/PDPs/M&Ps/VP9s if you use the wrong depth screw. Their parts aren't 100% compatible with Glock aftermarket stuff, though, so you have to do your own research on a lot of things if you don't like the stock Shadow Systems gun.

The P-01 is pretty good. Tanfoglio makes CZ clones and Jericho does too but there's no real reason for them in my opinion if you want the actual CZ75. The P-01 is aluminum-framed so it's lighter than the regular compact 75 is, though it has a rail if that's an issue to you. The PCR is the same essentially other than having no rail and a loaded chamber indicator that can have some problems with extraction.

I started with a Glock 19 so that would be the compact equivalent. You can't go wrong with either, the main difference is the grip length. So like others said, go with whichever fit your hands the best. If you're a size L glove or bigger then maybe the full size is best.

Is ProMag as bad as people say, and if yes, can they be fixed into properly functioning mags? A local shop has a S&W 645 and 4516 for sale, but the factory mags are going for $80 with ProMag being the only other option.

It certainly has the worst of both worlds, it’s more expensive to produce, doesn’t give any sort of weight improvement (steel guns have less recoil through sheer mass), doesn’t have the flex of polymer to absorb recoil. Since it’s more expensive to produce they often don’t checker or serrate it that well. While polymer can be very aggressive texture and a soldering iron can instantly change it to however you want. However aluminum guns feel more premium, the rigidity/polymer flex doesn’t really matter for 9mm, and sometimes just feels better. I wish some of my polymer guns were aluminum.

It doesn't soak up recoil like steel does, but it beats up your hands and joints like steel does. It's lighter for carry, but it still isn't as light as polymer. It also doesn't flex like polymer, and most people would say it's the least comfy under recoil of the three. There's potentially friction between steel magazine tubes/feed lips and anodized aluminum, and after a while, you'll gouge an aluminum magazine well with steel feed lips.

Frame cracking is an issue 99.5% won't run into, but aluminum is also going to have a shorter service life than either steel or polymer. Aluminum as a pistol frame material was really just a bridge between the steel and polymer worlds, and the bulk of its usage today is just because it's in legacy designs like the Sig P22X and Beretta 92.

Either go steel, or go polymer.

10mm has a wide range of loadings from .45 ACP tier to beyond .357 magnum / .41 magnum, the FBI downloaded it from its original 180 gr at 1300 fps to around 1000 fps, this was the FBI “lite load” which helped agents qualify while retaining hollow point performance on par with .45 ACP and having better penetration. The original 10mm loads at 180/1300 fps or 200/1200 FPS are a bitch to shoot while that 1000 fps load is easy (later becomes .40 S&W) and the more modern 180 gr at 1100-1200 fps packs more than enough punch while still being very manageable to shoot out of a steel frame auto.

I really like the 1150-1200 180 gr Magtech rounds. They were as cheap as .45 ACP a few months ago

It depends on the loading. A lot of 10mm guns are shot by poseur dweebs who just want to say they shoot a 10mm, and so they shoot weak loads which are just glorified .40 S&W. Other loadings like Buffalo Bore or Cor-Bon are very juicy, indeed.

If you can handle .357 out of an L-frame, you can handle 10mm.

Yeah, I feel that. When I was a little younger, I liked full size pistols, but honestly the older I get I find I lean more towards compacts.
Might be a hot take, but with full size guns, the only uses they have is the range, and as a truck gun- maybe hunting if you’re into that. But with compacts (especially single stack), they’re easy to conceal, and light.
I have full size guns (for example my Glock 17), but I don’t see myself ever conceal carrying it.

When I was a noob, I thought of smaller guns as compromises and I did start carrying with full size guns, but I just wasn't good enough at shooting yet to have complete confidence with a smaller gun. Easy. It's the beater/daily driver pistol. The pistol I don't have worry about winding up in officer fuckstick's personal collection if I have to shoot someone with it. The pistol I don't have to worry about rusting if my kids get sick or I have some house shit come up and don't clean it while carrying in the summer. I carry my Glock instead of something I love or is cool for the same reason that I don't daily drive my classic cars and instead daily my pickup, shit happens to daily drivers and I don't have to sweat it.

I've wondered that too, how the Glock got to be the "tool" that should be enough and anything else is either worse or excessive. On the private market, I mean. Guns as tools were figured out decades ago, and the market used to sustain a wide variety of handguns that had different calibers and factory trigger options while making no sacrifices in accuracy and reliability to provide those options.

But then in the last 10 years, there's been this wave of Yeagerites who worship Glocks in a way that goes beyond the 1911 purists of old. The Glock had a head start in the aftermarket boom, but now we have good options for aftermarket parts on just about every handgun worth mentioning. There's nothing wrong with liking Glocks, but the guys who insist on it being the ultimate tool are likely high on first gun fever and justifying their purchase, or one of those dudes who posts his bedroom with nothing but a mattress, laptop, and weights and thinks that liking nothing makes him an interesting person.

If you look at the internal mechanisms of a Glock, it's so simple it's actually beautiful. That's why any retard can mod their own Glock. That's why you can learn to do armorer level maintenance in 1 day with $100 of tools, and 90% of that is a sight pusher. The only reason people shit on something like the Gen 5 and 6 is because Glocks have been around 50 years. If Glocks never existed and the Gen 5 came out yesterday, it would be revolutionary because of its sheer elegance and modularity.
Glocks got big because of marketing, and that was Gaston. But some of the greatest, most autismal Austro-German minds like Bubits worked on the Glock too and there is a reason that it stands the test of time and somehow, even with shit like the PDP Pro offering a 1mm trigger reset off a 3 pound break, people who don't even like Glocks say they shoot them the best. The Glock isn't the Camry of the gun world, it's the Tacoma.
