Ski Mountaineering (SkiMo)

This one’s interesting: the discipline added to the 2026 program (sprint and mixed relay) is rooted in Alpine military mountain training troops had to climb and descend snowy peaks and move quickly on skis in rough, cold terrain.

Why not a 4 man land nav or something? There is so much the olympics can do that is crossover but also definitely civilian.
I've liked the hunting derived sports like clays and shit but something winter would be both traditional and inclusive...

>>
>>64844221
The shooting events in general used to be badass.
Or at least not gamer-fied bullshit.

When I become King of the Motherfucking World, I’m going to demand they go back to using full power rifles. And also add in more action events. Actually, fuck it, Cowboy Action Shooting will be an Olympic event. Complete with the LARPing rules.
>>
>>64844726
CAS honestly... aussies, argentina, us, canada, outback russia, africa, ALL had cowboys.
Although something in me wants like some forgotten proper english gentleman rifle sport, with stupid uniforms and rules you need AI to understand.

>The soundtrack sounds weirdly like Counterstrike.
Haven't listened to that yet but does it include sound samples or something that remind you of CS? Because if so, check out samples of Distorted Reality 2 on YouTube. Before like 2014 or so, CS used that heavily IIRC. ...Then if you have the old (C?)T side intro music in your head, go listen to Spyro 2's Hurricos and have your mind fucking blown. And then look at the composer of that game for another (unrelated) mindfuck.
>>
>>64844884
> ALL had cowboys.
Yes, but as far as I’m away, only the US and kind of Mexico had a real method around them.

Honestly, I just want it because the idea of some Cambodian dude rocking up in chaps and a ten gallon hat calling himself Rawhide John or something stereotypical makes me giggle.
You could even extend to concept to other appropriate time periods. One Olympics have a cowboy theme with repeating rifles and revolvers, the next have a pirate theme with flintlocks and blunderbusses, and the one after that being Cold War with FALs and Hi Powers or something. Do something fun with it.
>>
Apparently I spoke too soon about Italy not including music made by Italian artists. Immediately recognized Prisencolinensinainciusol lol. Anyone recognize the electronic song that fades in after or was it made just for this? I'm waiting for some Italian House or EDM or something to pop up but I gotta say my knowledge in much other than German and British music in those genres is minimal.

Everyone uses air rifles now because ballistics are more consistent. This isn't only about safety but also in terms of accessibility for noguns nations.
However modern airguns are more powerful than .22lr, so it's not a problem for target shooting. There is nothing much to talk about besides airgun brands.
>>
>>64845194
> in terms of accessibility for noguns nations.
Irrelevant when a lot of athletes already train in the US anyway. Plus, it’s probably easier to find an accessible shooting range than it is to find a sliding track to train on. Plus, the surfing event being held on the other side of the planet from the host nation last time shows that they can find other places to hold events if they really want to.

They can dress it up however they want to, but the real reason why there’s so much decay around Olympic shooting sports is because the Olympics are run by anti-gun Eurofaggots.
>>
>>64845194
They use airguns because the IOC is a bunch of corrupt jewish niggers and the last thing they want people to get into their head is that you too can practice with a firearm (and maybe pose a threat to them). If they could use lasers and gear that ratchets into a locking position they would and then retards like you would brag about how Ting Ping Ding Dong (5'2 93 lbs) winning gold at 10m "pistol" means chinks are superior at shooting.
>but the countries without gun access
Sucks to suck, maybe they should let their citizens have guns.
>but the physical variances
Yes and? That's always been the point of the olympics. Only the most elite get to compete and win, and being able to see a target through pistol irons at 50m, or adjust windage on the fly, or know how to understand how the ammo you're given is grouping is part of that. It's also about overcoming whatever nature throws at you because like any human endevor we are, if not at the mercy of, at least partially constrained by environmental factors. Nobody doing ski racing demands the course be on an entirely synthetic manmade surface in a climate controlled environment to eliminate all the variables, it's part of the skill set.
>but airguns are more powerful than 22s now!
And you're a gunless cuck in a gunless cuck country that couldn't get one because of muzzle energy laws.
>>
>>64844906

>>
>>64845855
Airgun mechanics are more repeatably consistent they have decided that "knowing your loadings" and all that is irrelevant to the skill of the act. It's gay as hell but they can't un-violence sports either.

Yeah WTF that was something, lol. When they went into Prisencolinensinainciusol and then afterwards went into the 80s/90s ski outfit section, I thought "oh here, it's going to somehow work its way towards a very recognizable Gigi D'Agostino song or some other Italian electronic artist" but then it just ended lol. And Prisencolinensinainciusol was a whole 15 seconds, or at least that's what it felt like.

I've held a Corazzieri cuirass before and it was much thicker than I expected. If you were to hit hit ever so slightly diagonally I wouldn't be surprised if it could bounce off a few 9mm hollow points. Historically they have stopped spears from horseback so they are sturdy

Without even looking the name of those guys up, they just look like a heavy cav unit. The cuirass plate was specifically meant to block weapon attacks while they were charging, even possibly up to muskets depending on century.

>bounce off a few 9mm
Doubt. That ain't tool steel.

Yall might be disappointed considering the earlier discourse, but I picked the men's 20k biathlon to watch. I want to see Olympians at the very top of the game, not with the difficulty dialed down.

Sure nowadays, are you saying they weren't originally a cuirassier or lancer unit? I wasn't trying to imply they were still charging down routing armies from horseback.
It's like the Swiss guard, the swiss landsknecht from the medieval era dressed in a similar fashion.

As a unit they always were the Honor guard for either the Prince or the King, they didn't have an active role in battles (outside of a few instances in WW2. The personal soldiers were often the best from their previous units and were picked from those.
Nowadays they are selected from the Carabinieri on a voluntary basis if they meet the requirements and pass the selection.
