i've been thinkling latlely, and I am convinced that i should purchase a Glock 30S to be my concealed carry gun.
>compact
>reliable
>11 round capacity which is fantastic for it's caliber
>chambered in .45 ACP for ultimate stopping powah
>"S" means it's more slim compared to the Glock 30
Having fallen for the 9mm and .380 propaganda in the past, I am now convinced this handgun is the ultimate carry gun. It's compact, [seems to be] very reliable, has great capacity, and has STOPPIN POWAH. What would the downside POSSIBLY BE

Guise, what should my first handgun be? This will be for conceal carry, home defence, and SHTF. I live in Based Town, USA and I HATE racial minorities (except Asian girls ofc). What caliber and gun are the current meta rn? I have a slight preference for a revolver with a visible green laser.
>>
>>64926452
On the off chance this is sincere, the Glock 19 or one of if it's clones (RXM, M&P 2.0c) would make a great allrounder. Revolvers don't exactly make a great first gun and certainly not a "jack of all trades"

These are the best imo, as well as bolt action rifles, I'm way too lazy to duck all around the range to pick up brass. And pistols just spit that out of the ejection port randomly.
>>
>>64926628

NTA but historically the increased stopping power of .45 over 9mm was what convinced the US army to adopt .45 ACP over 9mm Luger when trying to find a successor for their M1892s, but with the caveat that the Army had long fixated on .44 and .45 caliber sidearms before then and high-capacity 9's weren't a thing back during the 1911 trials. If anon's really worried about dropping some juiced-up junkie and he'd rather have .45 it's not wrong, part of the drive to .45 was PTSD from drugged-up Moro Philippinos not dropping to .38 LC.

On the flipside those trials were well over a century ago and a good modern 9mm hollowpoint expands really nicely. Furthermore, .45 ACP ball is like 1.5x to 2x the cost of 9mm ball and even in the doublestack 2011 world near flush fit 19 round 9mm magazines exist while flush .45 is still only 13 rounds. It's generic advice but I'd HIGHLY recommend >>64926172 >>64926836 rent a Glock 30S or even a 21 and see how those feel, since a more straightforward solution would just be to train more with 9mm and find a 9mm hollowpoint your current carry likes.

heavier projectiles are better for barrier penetration and have less deflection through mediums like autoglass and flesh (they travel straighter)

that was a meaningful advantage of the .40 over 9mm, better barrier penetration due to the heavier 165-180 gr projectiles. 135 gr screamers have impressive gel damage but underpenetrate through explosive expansion and fragmentation. Maybe if someone could make a hardened core JHP where the pedals fragment off, so you get massive gel damage, fragmentation, and then a solid core than punches deep.

I'm a prettyyyy new shooter and new to /hg/. I put fifty rounds of 9mm at 7 yards through my Glock 19 gen 6. I went for three distinct areas:

>Head/neck
I admit I played a little with the laser on that one so I was surprised I hit so many up there.

>Roughly center mass
Where most of my shots landed, but I think the grouping is pretty loose. I'm just proud there's at least some visible separation.

>Lower body
Maybe my worst, and the sight of a miss.

Some notes from the range safety officer about getting better:
>Improve grip (I am practicing at home)
>Hide the bullets and rack the slide, practice grip, aim, and dry fire when at home
>Snap caps (I've had these before I had live ammo lmao)

Assuming your POI, looks like recoil anticipation issues with the hits going low. Good dry fire practice should mediate this. A good strong grip too but holding a gun shouldn’t be that complicated, if you make your technique complicated then improving it will be even more complicated. A good intuitive technique is isoceles, just hold the gun out in front of you with two hands in a triangle looking down from above. Tense your arms and or push your elbows slightly upwards so that you’re impeding the gun coming directly back at you. Your palms should be pushing towards each other

You’re the one trying to make mountains out of molehills when it’s demonstrably, mathematically true that 9mm and .45 perform very similarly. One is lighter and faster, the other heavier and slower.

.45 runs at literally HALF the PSI of 9mm +P. This isn’t to say that 9mm is super powerful, it has more to do with the fact that .45 is very conservatively loaded at 19k PSI. If you want a more powerful handgun round than 9mm, you need to look at ones that run at similar or higher pressures than 9mm, namely things like .38 Super and .45 Super and 10mm.

Yeah, I think my big homework project is to realllly work on just a nice, simple, firm grip around the handle. I think I'm doing alright with it, but I also was told I'm "choking it" (lol) and I agree. When I let up on the grip and slackened a little more, the shots got better.

I would also say I am working with snap caps/dry fire in a good trigger pull. I pay attention at the range to when I pull the trigger, if I can keep my barrel from drifting bottom left a bit. Too sudden and it jerks around a bit, and throws me off. So that's been good to work on too

>>64927062
Thanks anon. I take safety and practice seriously. This is a retarded comparison, I know, but learning to git gud with my glock, conceal, draw, aim, grip, load, unload, clear, rack, etc -- having to practice all that reminds me of when I was super into karate growing up lmao. .45 ACP is right at the amount of lethality that balances recoil, barrier penetration, and hollow point expansion. 9mm simply cannot balance all of those as well as larger diameter bullets. Pressure does not dictate lethality

The FBI were totally right to download 10mm to the FBI Light load where is was basically .45 but higher capacity
>>
>>64927103
9mm never became equal with .40
>>
>>64927111
Wrong. The spec for overpressure rounds is 10%. That you didn't know this is very damning.
For CIP specced 9mm, that's 37.3k. For SAAMI specced 9mm, that's 38.5k. 19/37.3 is 50.9%. 19/38.5 is 49.35%.

IT'S LITERALLY HALF, DOWN TO A PERCENTAGE POINT
You being buttmad about this isn't going to change the math. If you want a powerful .45 caliber round, then shoot .45 Super.

g19/g45 or equivalent (M&P2.0 and Walther PDP compact models are my reccomends if you dont like glawks)
da/sa pistols would be good too but ime the primo striker guns are much cheaper than similar quality hammer fires.
sizing wise id go as close to full size as you can get that youre still willing to carry
>>
>>64927133
Pressure is complicated matter, some people measure it in cups, others measure it in psionic powers. Geometry is much simpler, even a monkey can understand. 45 ACP has double case capacity, and when it comes to what part of the case is actually available for powder, it's a bit more still.

Abject fuddlore. Every actually relevant law enforcement and special forces group on earth that is issued a pistol is issued a 9mm. You are not smarter than the requisitions officers of every military on earth.

The only edge-case in which .45 is still relevant is lethality while shooting subsonic loads, hence the loading for the Mk23 (which, incidentally, was dropped in 18 months for Glocks and STIs in .40 Smith and Wesson).

.45 is a fun caliber. .45 is a comfy caliber. .45 is a historic caliber. But, .45 is not some magical man stopper. If you want a powerful, practical handgun load, look at 10mm.

you don't necessarily need a fully supported chamber, it was designed so standard 1911s can shoot it, as long as you stay away from the .460 Rowland tier loads.

>>64927184
The brass needs to handle it, it's the weak link. You'll need to increase recoil spring weight to tune for more powerful recoil. It is very unlikely that modern barrel or slide could suffer catastrophic damage from an overpressure round.

Look at any reloading manual. You load .45 ACP with about 4.4 grains of Titegroup. You load 9mm with 3.8, and 9mm +P with about 4.2.
.45 ACP is deloaded. That's why it has half the pressure of other handgun rounds. If you loaded the .45 ACP case to its capacity, you wouldn't have .45 ACP, YOU WOULD HAVE .45 SUPER. THAT'S WHAT .45 SUPER FUCKING IS.

It has very strange proportions. Extremely tall (taller than a mark 23) and what looks like a regular full size pistol slide length.
>>
>>64927388
>I'm going to buy the 30S
Do it, so we can laugh at your groups with it
>>
>>64926592
It's weak and only works for blowback guns. Because the front of the slide is fully open it's missing a bunch of material vs a conventional slide so the rear has to be bigger and heavier to compensate because blowback requires MASS. Which is why those berettas and their clones are wider than most .25/.32 pocket pistols.

TL;DR too many drawbacks, almost no benefits.

Bless the bored RSO who helped me, guys

>In line for range time on the weekend (busy hours)
>Still pretty new gun owner and want to train with my G19
>Last one to get a lane after the place opens
>Cool
>Couple behind me had a reservation tho
>Their system dropped it or gave the lane to a walk-in before me
>Couple getting kinda pissed about it
>Approach the counter and tell the RSO doing reservations the couple can have my spot and I can just come back later
>Dude is visibly relieved, couple thanks me, the mayor gives me the key to the city, my dad is there-
>Nah, but he is relieved and so are the couple with the reservation

>Come back today, Wednesday
>RSO recognizes me, calls me by name
>Dude is a certified glocksmith and gunsmith
>Helps me go over stuff about breaking in my handgun a bit more
>Comes with me to the near-empty range
>Basically get an hour of free professional coaching
>Stopped me from doing stupid shit with my grip
>How to breath and exhale before breaking a shot
>Groupings drastically improved
>He also let me shoot for free since I did him a huge solid

I always was told gun store guys can be kinda scummy, but Mark, you're alright man.
