I have no range experience with a Hi Power, but I'm always surprised by how small it is, with a .9 inch-wide slide too. I've always wanted one, but I've always been worried that it will be just as unreliable as the 1911 has been for me.
>>
>>65537411
this was a while back but the retarded gun grabber logic was that if the trigger pull was heavier, it'd make NDs and ADs less common
>>
>>65537381
The NYPD used to mandate a 12lb trigger for their service pistols for the past 100 years. They started to move away from that decision in 2021. Only new recruits 2021+ get issued a firearm with a 5lb trigger. Those who were issued a firearm before 2021 keep their 12lb trigger.

Because NYC sucks. I was a cop in NY. The NY trigger is insane compared to a standard Glock. The rational is that a heavy trigger will prevent accidental discharges, but it just makes the cops less accurate. They also made all of the revolvers DA only back in the day.

I have experience with both the Inglis Hipower I was issued (was actually new in the grease when I deployed to afghanistan) and a 1970s FN Mk2 one I used to own. They are amazingly reliable pistols.
If you hear about unreliability its often because they are old and havent been serviced or the magazines are screwed up.
eg A lot of our Inglis Hipowers had a bad rep but it was because we shot the shit out of them since the 1940's.

I choose the P228. Mine has been 100% reliable, it conceals well, and it feels like a high quality gun instead of a good enough gun. I would take just about any DA/SA over a Glock just by trigger preference, but if I had to choose between the brand new striker-fired guns, it's all the same to me and I don't know if I would even recognize a Gen 6 Glock if I was handed one while blindfolded.

IME there are two things to watch out for
One is keeping it clean under the extractor claw, with a toothpick or something because it WILL jam eventually if you don't. The other thing is to have a spare slide stop because that thing is thin and will break. Don't slam the slide home on an empty chamber, IME BHPs don't really care otherwise but the slide stop takes extra punishment if you do. Might last a long time if you can keep yourself from doing so
>>
>>65537646
Fuddlore
Letting the slide fly into batter doesnt even touch the slide stop at any point
If anything shooting it until it locks open would do more damage

Glock's fucked-up grip angle will ALWAYS be inferior.
Gaston literally stole tech from S&W.

Not a Sig fan but it's the same with them.
The ND's are operator error. Period.
NO ONE has ever produced lab results that shows a maintained Sig P320 with a ND.
Fuck, even the Army who used to force those on us, couldn't produce any evidence other than negligence.

There's a Glock tax, you're paying for the name, X company has a similar gun with NIGHT SIGHTS or a lighter trigger for the same price, bla bla bla
truth is Glock has never manufactured a bad gun, they don't malfunction, they work and are perfectly reliable tools for shooting bullets
>muh grip angle
get a rifle if you're a target shooter. Pistols are for blasting motherfuckers 20 feet away
>>
>>65537910
Glocks are really accurate though, if I built a target Glock I might go for a Timney or something since the trigger is what mostly holds it back.
>>
>>65537746
"Cops", as in members of federal agencies?
>>
>>65537922
I'm cool with it because it's a "duty gun" with no manual safety. I don't want to shoot my dick off carrying 1 in the chamber. If your thing is going to the range and getting super tight groups at ridiculous, non-self defense ranges like more than 20 feet, a Glock isn't the thing to get.
I carry a glock because I don't want to get robbed, raped, victimized by an immediate threat. The heavier trigger keeps my dick safe so I can continue to masturbate daily.

Because the 4 inch SA35 came out just a few months ago and the only ones ever made before that were the shitty 1990s argentine ones which were rare and unpopular
There aren't "old detective style hi powers," there is the 4" SA35, and the FM Detective, thats it. Its unlikely any detective ever carried one lol
>>
>>65537936
I know but I was talking Timney as opposed to the GPT, which is more of an improved "duty" trigger and kind of not that great for target shooting
If you don't have to worry about your dick you could put any kind of hair trigger ND generator on it

Are NY Glock triggers unironically heavier than standard Glocks? Why? What is the tactical advantage of this?
Also, as someone who was in law enforcement (not to beat a dead horse but) what is your concerns on 9 vs 40? I hear that modern bullet technology makes them pretty much equal, but I wouldn’t know.

So many options. Beretta 92A1 would be my pick if I can only do 1. Easy to clean, repair, parts/mag availablity.

Runner up: P-01. Everything about this gun is excellent, but in SHTF its a little too difficult to repair and do more than a field strip.

Also love me CSX E-series. With a broken in trigger the pull is around 5lbs and conceals real good.

The SIG P226/P229 is the final solution to non-Glock 9mm side arms. NuSIGs need not apply.
The sad truth is that a gay boring ass Glock really does what you need a pistol to do. It's cleard the 80/20 rule by miles and miles.
Sure, other guns might tickle your balls or whatever, but having a better trigger isn't the tacticool advantage it's made out to be. You will not get kilt in da streetz because you had a Glock instead of a Staccato. Anyone arguing otherwise is absolutely trying to justify why they have more invested in handguns than their retirement fund.

Modern 9mm performs about the same as .40. 9mm has the advantages of a few additional rounds and being easier for women and smaller men. .40 is naturally a snappier round, so for new shooters it can create a lot of bad habits. Keep in mind, most cops are not "gun guys" and there are tons of cops who have never even touched a gun before the academy.

Third guy here. I personally keep my feelings about Sig separate from the discussion. I think there's stock in the view that if there's a problem mechanically, it should be lab reproducible, and so being unable to replicate the discharges under the same circumstances is fishy. That doesn't exonerate Sig for the shittiest PR I've seen in a while, and it doesn't mean there isn't actually something wrong. It means that we still have no forensic evidence that excludes user error on some level (improper holstering or draw, poor maintenance, amateur gunsmithing, foreign object...). A gun can go off because of a mistake you made days ago after all. I'm ready to get called a shill

>the real advancement of handguns
Mag capacity is about the only "advancement" made with handguns over the years. The biggest advancements in shooting have been made in the ammunition sector, not the firearm sector.

My tuned 1911's can compete with, or outperform, any "modern" handgun in every aspect except magazine capacity. I'm fine with that.

Unless a trigger actually sticks or is otherwise mechanically damaged/impeded/flawed there's mostly no need for constant kvetching about handgun triggers (some competition or Olympic shooters do require custom precision triggers, but not typical cops or CCers or /hg/ers)

i have a vp9sk. it's good but i'm not excited about mag prices. i have used PMC, Magtech, Fed/Am Eagle, Win, SB, and that time i bought IMI. no issues but i do prefer having a hammer.
