Ever. There are multiple accounts from WWI of guns firing continuously for 10+ hours with no maintenance except barrel changes and back when the bongs were getting their Vickers guns out of inventory they decided to run one until it broke just out of curiosity but gave up after closing in on 5 million rounds. The Maxim Gun was obsolete on the ground as soon as WWI ended and they certainly have their flaws but if you're sitting in a hard point waiting to dump as many belts as you have into whatever you see then you could do a hell of a lot worse. One of the high points of this entire conflict for me has been seeing the Maxims go to war again because I've been a simp for water-cooled guns ever since I was a kid.>Aren't these 19th century guns?Is a Mosin? Design-wise, yes, Maxim Guns are from the 19th century. Production-wise, probably not given that almost all Russian inventory was either the M1910 or donated Vickers guns but they're still at least 80 years old. Between the late 19th century and WWII the Russians acquired or made something like 800,000 of them IIRC and a significant chunk of the surviving inventory ended up in storage (including in Ukraine - when the sausage salesman was still around he did a propaganda video of a Soviet-era underground munitions depot that Wagner took and there were Maxims in it) or 'surped out to various thirdies all the way into the 60s.
Even though water cooling extends the barrel's service life, are replacement barrels being newly manufactured and supplied somewhere?
