There’s a real hunger for lesbian (perhaps, more aptly, ‘sapphic’) audiences to see something that looks and sounds like them, but ultimately offers little more beyond airy fantasies and an opportunity for collective gooning. If lesbianism could be more than an edge to their names, more than currency for 'lesbian' audiences (which still lends way for the hetropatriarchal one), and could instead function as a meaningful identity, then, sure, I could think differently. If Tswift's lyrics are vague enough, they could be about anyone. She, too, could be anyone. So she chooses to be the most marketable version of herself. Blah blah blah
