Is there any link between creative genius and having regular sexual intercourse?

It seems many writers I enjoy were either bachelors or only had brief or long-distance relationships, in which regular sex was not a thing. Personally I can't imagine a man having sex more than once a week, while being in a happy relationship, and still being able to focus on writing some profound work of literature.

Sometimes i forgot how dostoevsky have been photographed several times throughout his life, yet people love to use that one depressive painting of him sitting in a chair for whatever reason

why ever not? do sex and relationships really have such a debilitating effect on you? the couple of times i've been in a relationship, i've only felt sharper and more energised and more 'like myself', and literature was all the more rewarding as a result.

I guess it depends on the relationship, but having sex personally means experiencing hours of tension and relief and kind of obsessing over someone and making sure you are paying them enough attention etc. More importantly is that the romantic interpersonal experience is essentially an external one, and it drags your focus outside yourself and insists on making your experience an external one (e.g. adventures, holidays, travelling, doing things in general) and it can be difficult to return to the internal depths which feels like the only place decent literature can be produced. Maybe it's a cope or an extreme perspective, not sure.

Tolstoy despite all his hand wringing about sex later on was a sex fiend

The greeks and romans had plenty of regular intercourse and wrote foundational works. It's a historical coincidence that christcuckery dominated sexual relations for a long time, which limited (and still continues to limit) the amount of possible sex one might have.

The difference afaik is that he didn't work full-time, or even much at all. It's different if a guy has limited time outside of work, full- or part-time.
