I'm at about a 4. Can I train myself to get to a 1? I want this ability for reading fiction.

>Can I train myself to get to a 1?
Are you willing to throw your cell phone, computer, and TV in the trash?
>>
>>25074055
everyone is both a 1 and a 5, this is a semantic disagreement
>>
>>25074055
>>25074065
Are you guys trolling or for real?
>>
>>25074062
Has nothing to do with it.
>>
>>25074065
What’s semantic about it?
>>
>>25074065
There is some empirical evidence that suggests that the difference is substantive rather than semantic. E.g. in persons who report low imagery, the eyes are less responsive to mental imagery.

You better believe its true.
I am a 5 at all times other than when asleep dreaming when I become a 1.
Sometimes just as im falling asleep or as I wake up from dreams I can hit the 1 level.

Trust me, a 5 cannot see anything ever. Literally not even the faintest trace of anything no matter how hard you try.

The best analogy I ever heard for it is a computer turned on but the monitor is switched off, every single piece of info is there and known, but it just has no picture to go with it.

Ultimately, it doesnt really matter. I dont get any super ability once im asleep and can see pictures vs when im awake and cant. Its just a pointless novelty.

Dreams/hypnagogic visions are different from the mind's eye. Our brain treats them like real sight. Nobody (except maybe psychotic people) can literally "see" their mind's eye. Do you have any level of visualization in the brain while waking?

I don't know how to train it, I've had it my whole life but I do now it can be taken away and that's really scary and it's the worst feeling... not being able to imagine anything.

I think looking at lot of art, graphs, visual images trains them memory to recreate them in the mind. That's all I can offer. Just keep looking at stuff, close your eyes and just... imagine the stuff you looked at as best you can.
>>
>>25074147
To a degree it's probably learnt. Women are generally better able to differentiate colours - why? Because they learn these tiny shade differences as part of their upbringing. They've done studies with african tribes who have never seen specific shades and sometimes they're invisible, it's hilarious. Probably something similar for mental imagery.
>>
>>25074138
What happens if you think of a memory?
Do you have no visual memories?
All imagination is is basically recombining memories.
>>
>>25074141
I can literally see out of my mind’s eye. I can even feel it blink sometimes. I have severe visual snow and other visual hallucinations and a very vivid imagination/visual memories. ‘Fake’ images appear to my as real as authentic ones. I suspect I have mild schizophrenia which will probably increase with age. People are not built the same, whether it means anything is a different story.
>>
>>25074180

I’ll remember the feelings, I’ll remember what happened but there is no picture.

A book can tell any story whatsoever without pictures. Functionally you will be fine without a picture, it’s why it’s taken so long to figure this is a thing, it doesn’t really have any impact.
>>
>>25074141

Zero, which is why it’s incredibly obvious when I’m falling asleep and can suddenly start seeing things for a few minutes before I do fall asleep.
>>
Anyone else struggle with decontexualising the imagery?
Like I can imagine a blue apple, something I've never seen before, but it's laying in the grass in my yard.
Or I can imagine picking it up bringing it into my kitchen and slicing it in half.
But I'd struggle to just imagine it against a black nothingness.
What's that about?
>>
>>25074249
But again, those are distinct, even in people with a very strong mind's eye. If you have waking visualization it'll still be obvious.
>>
do these niggas not dream?
>>
>>25074250
Thats where >>25074065 is right in my opinion. Do other anons really see stuff like you would in a dream while their eyes are closed? How does that work when their eyes are open. When I close my eyes its just blank but i can imagine things and rotate them in my "minds eye". whatever that means
>>
>>25074055
be devoid of experience and youll start building worlds in your head. the things i see in 1 are things i might never acquire, and it becomes better translated to text.
>>
>>25074293
Why would you need to close your eyes? They're different faculties. I can be walking down the street and watching where I go while also walking through my old school in my mind.
>>
>>25074055
Not that I ever wanted to be but as a 5, couldn't make it as a writer.

are you guys literal monkeys? I thought everyone was 1
>>
>>25074055
This not about imagination, it's about visualization.
>>
>>25074250
I automatically think of objects as floating in an empty void, unless I specifically add other things to the scene.
>>
>>25074293
Seeing stuff in a dream is just like imagining it, for me. Meaning, dreaming doesn’t feel like really seeing. Really seeing with my eyes is immediate and visceral in a way that dreaming/imagining is not.
>>
>>25074055
IF YOU CAN DRAW AN APPLE AND COLOR IT THEN YOU ARE A 1, EVERYONE CAN DO THAT, YOU ARE JUST ALL BEING RETARDED
>>
>it's another dogshit thread where people repost the same bait for the 2130943232094874327243th time in a row such as "can you see and rotate an apple in your head" or "how would you feel if you didn't have breakfast this morning" or other internet bullshit just to feel better about themselves because I'm smarter than everyone else or something (and this is why I'm on 4chan on a sunday)
>stays on page 1
>>
>>25074309
if so im pretty sure anyone is a 1
>>25074413
to me dreaming does feel like seeing and im a "5"
>>
>>25074062
I've spent most of my life watching garbage on TV/YT and playing video games, yet I'm a solid 1. It is purely genetics and there is nothing you can do about it.
>>
>>25074429
Nigger who said anything about drawing
>>
>>25074138
the difference is the ability to do it consciously and on command. we all have vivid dreams, and nobdy will disagree with that.
but when you are awake and alert, can you visualize a cow, rotate it, or have it change it's color and spot pattern? can you make the cow grow wings? I can.
>>
>>25074439
i can make cows fuck
>>
>>25074141
>Nobody (except maybe psychotic people) can literally "see" their mind's eye.
This is false. I used to get migraines and occasionally have hallucinations that blur the line between memory and the present.

So, I'd remember a song while having a migraine, and then I'd be unsure of I actually heard the song or if it was just in my head. The same goes for visual memories and imagery while reading a book, too. A healthy brain(not mine) does a lot of important work for you keeping reality from falling apart on a whim. It really fucking sucks when you can't control what you visualize and see and hear what you imagine. It's either terrifying or annoying as hell. I can't drive when this is happening. I can't trust myself to know what actually happened and what people actually said, if I was having a migriane. ect ect
>>
>>25074055
>Can I train myself to get to a 1?
If you need a training to visualise how an apple looks. Then I can only call you retarded soulless urbanite and probably a hylic too.
>>
>>25074055
I am like a 0. Is that why most things make me barf?
