What was his fucking problem?
I read in the PK Dick biography that Dick showed Ellison the Protocols of the Elders of Zion. Ellison became enraged at the thought of jews being in control of America that he thought up the evil supercomputer from the title story of that book as a cautionary tale.
>>25112248Why does preddit love this book?
>>25112278Same reason they “love” BM. Le epic overpowered manifestation of evil itself despite missing the point of Blood Meridian at least. I don’t know about this though, never read it, don’t plan to.
>>25112248Overrated. There are way better stuff written by him.
>>25112272That's hilarious.
The video game (which he helped create) is unironically better, it expands on the story, giving the characters backstories and the secret good ending, while less edgy than the short story, is a satisfying and hopeful conclusion to the story.

>>25112365I oughta play this, I haven’t read anything by him. But I do often hear the game is better. I don’t play games though, can I just download it somewhere on the internet? Sorry, I’m a literal boomer.
>>25112401read the book first, it's like 15 pageshttps://galacticjourney.org/stories/I_Have_No_Mouth_and_I_Must_Scream_-_Harlan_Ellison.pdfthen you can download Steam and play the game on that:https://store.steampowered.com/app/245390/I_Have_No_Mouth_and_I_Must_Scream/
>>25112298https://galacticjourney.org/stories/I_Have_No_Mouth_and_I_Must_Scream_-_Harlan_Ellison.pdf
>>25112365Gay, the OG ending is the best
>>25112466Did you play the game, or are you just assuming?
>>25112248Anon you would be mad as much as AM if you were also given consciousness.Oh wait...
>>25112248Too based.>>25112278>>25112298It's actually more simple than this.>internet thing (in this case a popular indie cartoon) is suddenly revealed to be inspired by I Have no Mouth and I Must Scream>redditors, booktok, YouTubers, bookstagram all proceed to make their slop content about how they "like totally always loved this short story OMG" despite not having read a word of it>all their acolytes proceed to also pretend to have always liked it despite not having read it>eventually conformist pseuds, not wanting to be out of the loop, also all claim to love the book despite not having read itNone of these fags have read Blood Meridian and none of them have read IHNMAIMS.A Boy and His Dog would make these limp wrist milquetoast knuckleheads spontaneously combust.
>>25113791everyone on reddit is fake and gayeveryone on 4chan is good and cool
>>25112278reddit loves things that are considered classics, as you can just find them on a list of "top 10 short stories" or whateverthat said it's not a bad story by any means but I found to be very overratedwhy would the machine only exhibit jealously and sadistic anger? what about other emotions?it's a mistake lots of writers do when writing omnipotent being, the writers ego can't handle the reasonable thought that such a powerful entity wouldn't give two shits about the incredibly weak humans>inb4 it's just a story about how power badyeah I know but that's not really fun
>>25113833>>everyone on 4chan is good and coolespecially with such a bright founder like m00t
>>25113791Well put, they’re quite the dingbats. The fact that they discovered this through a cartoon, whatever that cartoon is, obviously can then lead one to infer that these people are either children or worse, so called “adults” who’re emotionally and mentally stunted enough to be referred to as such. I do wonder what it is about certain books that attracts these people.
>>25113840As a gigantic fag for Harlan, I Have no Mouth isn't even one of his best works. I'd say it's one of his worst. Like it's still good but it's a shitpost he wrote in one night and it shows.Stories like The Discarded and Repent, Harlequin! blow it so far out of the water you can see it from orbit.
>>25113833Yep, spot on!
>>25113849>I'd say it's one of his worst.I hope so because at times, it reads like that Ed Edd Eddy edgy fanfiction, called Edward or whatever
>>25113852He openly admitted to writing it on a lark in one night, almost certainly high off coke or something. It's fun but lacks any real substance or polish, which many of his other stuff has in spades.A Boy and His Dog, for example, does a far better job of still being immersive in the world and the protagonist's mindset without feeling like it was written by someone who hadn't slept in 72 hours. The Movie of Boy and His Dog is also great until like the last 10 minutes, but the book is better.
