On a scale of 1-10, how bad of an idea is it to post my novel's manuscript here for critique? Would I be better off paying an editor?
>>25264374>On a scale of 1-10, how bad of an idea is it to post my novel's manuscript here for critique?easily a 10, /lit/ doesn't read >Would I be better off paying an editor?yes, immeasurably
>>25264379Fair enough. Thank you, anon.
If you plan on trying to be traditionally published, don't post it or excerpts anywhere, it will make it more difficult to get published since it raises all kinds of legal issues like is it actually yours? did you post it somewhere where the the site's TOS grants them publishing rights or a cut of any money made off the work in the future, etc etc etc. Publishers are not going to deal with the legal headaches of works published on the internet or elsewhere if it is well documented in the legal sense or it has a very good chance of making lots of money. Most of the time publishers will just do some quick searches and if they find you work online somewhere, they will turn it down. Also, if you post your draft on the internet and you get any success, the draft will circulate and could bite you down the road.
>>25264374just post it bro. if it's any good I'm stealing it.
>>25264374I haven't read it yet but here's my critique:Too many women. Not enough racial slurs. I can't say much about the prose because I'm not an expert on that but it fucking sucks.
>>25264477>Too many womenOne woman character who features as a central character, roughly four female secondary characters.>Not enough racial slursI think I have racial slurs covered.>I can't say much about the prose...Clearly not.
>>25264464It's in the first draft currently. I couldn't share it here knowing what I know now. When it's released, you can have all the go at it you want.
>>25264424Noted. Thanks for the advice, anon.
Posting your transcript online, just means that you're handing it to the AIfags. They'll filter it through an LLM, and have just enough changed to be legally distinct. Then sell it as an e-book.Don't give your ideas away for free.
>>25264374an editor edits. depends on what you want.
>>25265183I could use a seasoned editor's advice on a few things, particularly the structure, what to cut what to expand, etc.
>>25264590>One womanThat's simply too many.
>>252643744chan isn't very helpful for feedback. Too many ankle-biters, contrarians, and memers to actually filter out the genuine criticism.
>>25264374Posting your manuscript on a public forum forfeits FNASR. Imagine this:>congratulations, Anon. We want to represent your novel. Just one small question: you didn't publish this anyplace before, did you?>Nope!>Ok, now let me just do a quick Google search and... oh. It looks like you did publish it online. >No! I didn't publish it online! >Yes you did. It's all right here on 4chan. Did you post the whole manuscript?>Yeah, but that was for critique. >Hmm... sorry, Anon. I can't publish this without first serial rights.
