I've been playing survival horror games from the classic PS2 titles like Fatal Frame and Resident Evil to the new indie revival, like SSRWives' demo and Ivayami and Signalis. They're all pastiche and cliche but comforting especially compared to reading some incomprehensible intentionally obscure stuff like Cyclonopedia. Definitely a fun nostalgic romp that doesn't use your brain all that much

Hoping that you'll feel satisfied by seeking enlightenment through culture is a fruitless exercise.
Have you tried reading non-fiction? Much of self-help is a meme but stuff like CBT is proven to work, you can try reading the Feeling Good Handbook by Dr. David Burns or just look up a CBT guide online. Building good habits might help to, try reading Tiny Habits and/or Atomic Habits.

I think a lot of people underestimate how much of happiness, or at the very least, not feeling terrible, is physiological, especially since we're taught to not be materialistic. But it will probably be more effective if you focus on things you enjoy, try to stay healthy and active, and identify what is causing you despair in your life and trying to eliminate those causes instead of seeking some "truth" that will fulfill you.
>>
>>25312951
That stuff didn't help me. Being active and healthy made me want to die

No book, what you need is rest.

For every one effortful but edifying piece of art, allow yourself to enjoy 7 pieces of pure entertainment.

The soul is like the string of a bow: allow it no rest, and soon it becomes weak and useless.

Now notice: I said effortful but edifying, and not this modern coprophagy.

What doesn't kill you does not necessarily make you stronger, sometimes it just kills you slowly.

God help you.

Issa meme, cap'n, but >>25312848 and >>25312793 and >>25312777 are basically all correct. This guy's problem isn't finding another piece of culture to suck down his philistine gullet but he probably needs to just go outside. NB reading, watching movie, listening to music, even if highbrow, are all forms of consumption. Reading another maximalist new sincerity whiteboy tome won't make this guy any happier. He should probably join a beach volleyball league or try a racket sport, maybe buy a lathe and drink some light beer in the garage
>>
I find it funny that almost every single poster in this thread seems to have misunderstood the image, most likely due to the majority of people in this board falling into the same pseudo-intellectual camp as OP's pic. The faggots that are actually recommending the OP to consume even more low brow slop are downright malicious, the things listed in the picture require zero effort to understand, his issue isn't that his brain is tired from pursuing such intellectual pursuits such as listening to My Bloody Valentine songs and watching David Lynch films, it's that he's an imposter, a faker and a pseud who only pursues art to enflate his own ego, fit in, and impress other fakers. Do not recommend these people to dig their own graves into further idiocy.
As someone who fell into the Hipster Zoomer/Millenial trap myself a few years ago, i'll give my advice to those of you who are still validation hungry pseuds.
First of all, stop caring about your "taste" in mass media or what other people think of it. You are not an paragon of taste for having your favorite pieces of music all be from RYM top 100 list and your favorite films to be The Godfather, 2001 an Space Odyssey and Citizen Kane, and your favorite Video Games to be Metal Gear Solid 2, Silent Hill 2 and Deus Ex.
Start developing an actual sense for art that isn't influenced by the Internet.
Put this into your head: Mass Media is not art, it's just vanity. Have you truly gotten anything out of listening to an indie pop album or watching the newest Oscar bait flick that will be forgotten in a months time?
Start actually intellectually challenging and appreciating art, instead of just consuming what you are told is good, without thinking for yourself and just taking others words as gospel.
I won't spoonfeed you on how to start challenging your own intellect because this board itself already has plenty of resources that can help you with that.
But i doubt any of you will actually listen to my advice and instead you'll just move on and pretend to have read The Iliad and to like Wagner without truly understanding any of it, like you did beforehand with mass media, but instead this time using actual Art to try and get attention and validation from your fellow pseuds.

Christ almighty. That post ended up being quite long. But i still need to add some further things that i forgot to mention.
Go outside and try and pursue experiences beyond consumption of media. There is more to the human condition than staring at an screen. I'm not telling you to become a normalfag. But just let your eyes rest from a screen for a few hours, get out of town and enjoy nature and the few beauties that are left in this world.
>>
>>25313249
>Put this into your head: Mass Media is not art, it's just vanity. Have you truly gotten anything out of listening to an indie pop album or watching the newest Oscar bait flick that will be forgotten in a months time?
Sure. Why wouldn't this be possible? I guarantee some of the most unique or artful things you've experienced were influenced by something you'd consider basic. Twitter is full of amateur painters or similar artists, and I am going to bet that plenty of them produced something cool because they listened to one song on repeat for hours.
>>
Why are people trying to derive their full life meaning from fucking stories? From products sold for entertainment to read after a hard days work, for the half an hour to an hour you have to yourself before bed. You don't just accumulate enough big book points and then unlock the "enlightened" status that gives you a permanent happiness buff.

People found meaning in life before the written word, and illiterate people today find meaning in life through friends, family, loved ones, a community to support, tasks to achieve.

You can live a good life without ever reading a single piece of fiction.
>>
>>25313249
I think you're close to the point but still somewhat miss it.

Go live life and develop your own discernment of what you like and don't like based on your own personal tastes. Be able to articulate why you like it, what you like about something, what you don't like about something. Have some self awareness about yourself.

And don't obsessively consoom like some gluttonous pig thinking it will lead anywhere, it won't. Excessive consumption of anything takes the magic away, it's why faggots that spend their entire careers making or watching westerners or whatever turn to deconstructing the genre.
>>
>>25313269
It wouldn't be possible because Pop music is simply empty, my issue is not that it is "basic", it's that is it lacks any artistry and meaning in it, just like your Twitter "artists". Meaninglessness can only beget more meaninglessness. I heavily doubt that any artist has made an meaninful painting from listening to Carlie Rae Jepsen or whatever is being marketed nowadays. You can give me an example if you'd like of art being made under those conditions but i heavily suspect it will either be some Modern Realism drivel painted by a middle aged woman, Anime pornography or Cia psyop paintings. Those people are not artists, they are mechants looking to sell their products.
The sky is "basic", a river is "basic", a tree is "basic". Yet some of the most meaninful poems, paintings and songs have been made from the influences of those exact things. Basic doesn't mean something is bad, in fact the most basic aspects of the World are the most multifaceted of all.
But Pop Art has nothing to offer in the exterior nor in the interior.
Modern pieces of art are just products it's made to appeal to men's most animalistic impulses or to try and feign importance where there is none.
>>
>>25312793
>Or you can go outside and experience something for yourself.
please take the thread seriously anon

>Those people are not artists, they are mechants looking to sell their products.
You were so close to greatnss with your previous post but you had to go to the pseud tirade yourself in this one. Literally 99% of what you consider "high art" was an artist selling a product to a rich guy like a noble.

nta but producing a master work for a discerning person of taste is way different than tooling some slop so that the broadest cast of morons will slurp it up
>>
>>25313357
You and i know that there is a quite a difference between Augustus commissioning Virgil to make the Aeneid and making something to appease the billions of hedonistic animalistic creatures that inhabite modern society.
My problem isn't an artist making money from their work, i don't mind that. The issue lies with the commodification of it.
How art has been turned into consumerist drivel devoid of substance.

The sickness here is value maximization. You've tried to seek the best (according to your college-educated cultural niche) of every type of experience because you wanted to maximize the value of your life. It can't feel like a prison because it's urbane, it's zeitgeisty and it's already considered everything else and therefore contains it. To escape it you need to do things that are radically uncool, transgressive or unhealthy. But beware, many people retreat from this into naive religious subculture and sublimate their anxities into cultural resentment, remaining miserable in the process.

Have you ever considered that in constantly seeking stories and music to be stimulated by, you've been neglecting the story of your life or the music you could be making (if only in your head)? The flaw is in looking for an external force to ground you rather than taking a step back from the endless narratives we expose ourselves to on a daily basis
