I thought these games had the deepest and most emotive storylines when I was a teen. I replayed them a couple of years ago and they just haven't aged well at all despite their reputation in the gamer community. Lit really does ruin other mediums for you, huh.
>>
they were never good because of their storylines. they were good because of the way they utilized their own medium for atmosphere and subversion. lit also ruins your aesthetic insight, apparently.
>>

>>25336340
4 had the best atmosphere but worst gameplay. It's a bit more bearable on easy.
>>
>>25336281
1 and 3 are just genre slop. 2 is talked about so much because it actually has depth at least by vidja standards. It doesn't really matter since trying to compare different mediums is apples to oranges since it will inevitably leave out merits that can't be reasonably compared.
>>
>>25336281
Have you played Nier 1?
>>
>>25336281
worse is MGS shit. it's literally too deep 4 u dog shit sucking off western mythos and concepts of masculinity. when u see retards glazing it know that they couldnt even get through a stephen king novel.

Disco Elysium is the one good video game. Quite a shame really, given what the medium should be capable of and the billions of dollars that a poured into it year on year. But I suppose a wallowing mediocrity is to be expected of a medium when it is primarily occupied by greasy little STEM nerds
>>
I will never understand this weird 4chan thing of not enjoying different art forms
>>
>>25336644
I played about 6 hours of Disco Elysium and hated pretty much every bit of its writing. I don't understand the appeal at all.

It’s in book IX of The Republic, before he describes the tripartite nature of the soul

have you?

Especially since books are the art form that gave us romantasy and other fem gooner shit.

That's fine. As a teenager I thought Fullmetal Alchemist and Kingdom fucking Hearts were "deep". They'll grow out of that thinking eventually and come to still enjoy the series in new ways.

Oh yeah but fucking Cormac "le darkness defeats le light" McCarthy, now THAT'S deep and mature

performative reading, the thread
>>
>>25336984
As a long time hardcore fan of Kingdom Hearts, I never thought it was deep, it was simply convoluted. You never what new shit Nomura was going to pull out of his hat.
The one thing I do think it was brilliantly done, it's Roxas' seven days.
>>
>>25337124
performative gaming*
>>
>>25336644
they intentionally modeled the writing on quippy twitter posts, it's actively unpleasant to read.
>>
>>25337229
that explains the bite-sized prose, such surface-level rhetoric for tackling political subject matter, i guess gamers think that shit is impressive
>>
>>25337229
it's a sympathetic indictment of idpol retardation. the twitter posting is a partof that theming
it's a story about how stupid, absurd, and harmful coping mechanisms are but that in times of grief people need them regardless
it's a solid story. retards praise it or demonize it because they think it condones or condemns their tribe
>>
>>25337425
>it's a story about how stupid, absurd, and harmful coping mechanisms are
i guess they missed the memo regarding gaming being the biggest coping mechanism of them all
>>
>>25337433
no that doesn't make any sense at all. I assume this is mindless screeching?
substance abuse and ideological hang ups are a lot more relevant to adults and have a much greater impact on their lives
>>
>>25337433
>i guess they missed the memo regarding gaming being the biggest coping mechanism of them all
For people on this site, you're probably right. Otherwise I'd say there's much bigger copes that far more people rely on.

Silent Hill is great in the way Deus Ex or the Star Wars prequels are: it transcends its status as "slop" to become "kino." OP has read maybe two books this year tops.

>>
We forget that there was a time that people thought reading too many novels was an antisocial epidemic.
>>
>>25337878
I did not forget. I remember our ancestors lamenting the girls spending all their time reading stupid novels and the boys later in life regurgitating their "borrowed learning" by just parroting what they'd read and I remember the ancients lamenting the loss of memory and reliance on the written word at the dawn of writing. I remember it all and everything we've lost as a result of THESE ACCURSED WORDS
>>
>>25337823
>>25337834
aren't the ones who think video games are worse than alcohol going to be the people who play them?
seems delusional to think video games matter or that the average person is affected by them in any capacity other than a quaint pass time
imagine being addicted to a toy

true /vlit/heads know that the actual most deep game, substantively, is Quake 3. A complete rejection of pretension and an embrace of space, movement, time and repetition.
