>>22547137sports cars are actually a pretty good analogy to what mortarheadds/gothicmades are in-universe. they're regarded as much as art pieces and status symbols as war machines and are kept in top condition at all times. obviously they fight sometimes but most of the time in the manga they're just standing around looking cool and intimidating, fss is really more of a space opera just with giant robots as part of the setting than a "mecha manga" so the robots are often just serving as background props and set dressing. nagano also hasn't drawn any of them weathered in decades and most people don't want to modify their resin kits into battle poses so it's generally more appropriate to do them squeaky clean and shiny in their standing poses, and when you see a weathered build it's usually one of the articulated plastic kits of an 80s/90s design that are easier to get into a more dynamic pose.also gtms (and, as of the 90s, akd's mhs) all canonically have semi-translucent armour, and it's kind of hard to do things like shading as well as layering your transparent paints properly to get the correct amount of subtle translucency. i have seen a couple of gtms done in matte with shading but it is rare
