=READ THE GUIDE=

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.

For the unclear, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!

And don't forget to report shitposting and spam.

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post images whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting images.

>Why are my pictures sideways?
4chan strips EXIF data from images when they're uploaded to the site from your phone, including the orientation display tag. To fix this, save your images separately, or use an app that will rotate and save the images for you.
One commonly used app that works well on Android:

How the hell does a CAD/mould error like that even make it all the way into the final product?
>>
>>22587548
Can you elaborate? Is it that the two sides are different? Peg going where it shouldn't on one side?
>>
>>22587549
That "peg" on the right is moulded onto the piece itself and shouldn't be there in the first place.
Instead it should only be like that small protruding joint detail on the left.

Base coats for Scopedog are on. Did a weathering test piece and I'm pretty stoked on the results, I'm trying out a more realistic style with this one. Not gonna go too heavy with it so I need to find a balance between visible/overwhelming. What do you guys think?
>>
>>22587581
I think it looks good.
This would look bad for a 18m mech, but scopedogs are 3.8m so the weathering is nicely in scale.

>>22587599
I used vallejo acrylic black, German red-brown, and red, all mixed and layered differently with a sponge, and then tamiya weathering master applied wet with a brush for the streaking, and dry with the brush it came with for the stippling effect.

>(Thos part os my fault) Try and swabthe fingerprint away with isopropyl, causing a massive frosting of where the swab touched
Now that I am in this mess, will I have to strip the whole thing back and start again, or can I get away with dipping in floor polish? It is an acguy canopy at least, so if the part is ruined I can set up the finished model without it (seen a lot of people do this for photos, it just unfortunately makes the head unit a dust trap).

it actually depends.

more or less they probably have 3d cad files for all MS for MG line and basically the rest is decided if the marketing/sales department would give them a go ahead to produce the unit

reminder that RE1/100 is a line they created for their planned MGs that they think it will be too expensive to produce/ will not sell well. they plan to simplify the model kit and remove the inner frame to make it cheaper to produce so they can sell it a price that they will not lose money even if it doesn't sell.

for me, they went about it the wrong way. they released the less popular MS and still cost almost the same as a MG.

some of it were ok for RE1/100 like the Nightingale and Efreet Custom, but the rest was like MG price but its shit.

I mean, GunEZ for how simple it is, they still asked for 3500 yen for it, thats like 500 yen away from MG F91 v2. the Zaku II F2 costs the same price as a MG Zaku II 2.0

RE1/100 for me, should have been the cheap army builder line for the grunts/enemy grunts and the occasional too expensive for an MG.

I mean like if they release a 1/100 Leo and it costs around 2000 to 2500 yen, it would sell gangbusters for Wing fans to buy a lot of them and make Wing related diorama.

the frame is one molded piece, as opposed to several pieces as with the l gaim. the pipes on the aug are molded plastic, whereas the pipes on the l gaim are little rubber piping. the pistons on the l gaim are their own little pieces, while on the aug they’re molded details. it would be cool if they released more detailed kits for heavy metal l gaim but it’s about as likely as a real grade dunbine at this point. at least the reprints have some updated parts compared to the early 2000s versions

Their selection cycles every now and then. Every now and then you can find stuff like RG Exia, HG Narrative-A, RG Hi-Nu, MG Sinanju OVA, and so on. It'll never beat the selection at an actual hobby shop, but when you can buy an MG at sub-$40 and RG at $18 or thereabouts (and Leos at $10 apiece), it's worth checking in every now and then.

as a general warning do not buy the model kits online.

any online listings that do not list a specific model kit/generic name are subject to blind roulette.

You could purchase this listing that shows a Sinaju and end up with literally any other master grade they sell instead of one

that happened to me and they weaseled their way out of it by saying that the website said the order could be a different color or style, which gives them enough flexibility to send a totally different kit and not have to give a refund. they did give me store credit when i went to return it in person, and they only gave the base amount i had paid excluding tax or shipping
wanted an mg shinanju, got a xi gundam, returned it and had only enough credit to get an mg zaku 2 because i had ordered the kit when it was discounted and only got credited for the cheaper price
they had said on the phone if i returned it in person i’d get a refund at the full price, and when i got there the store people said no to that. and since the website has the disclaimer about a “different color or style” they wouldn’t give a proper refund. bunch of stingy pricks they are

>>
>>22588854
why would you ever want to order from them again if they fucked to that badly once? who gives a shit if they blacklist you
>>
>>22588860
Because it would more likely than not also extend to buying from them in-person.

Again, the whole problem is that they put it in writing on the website that the product you get isn't guaranteed to be the product you order. It's shitty, but legally their asses are covered, so even a chargeback isn't guaranteed to work. Depending on how desperate you are for Gunpla, cutting off one of the few suppliers you have access to might not be worth getting back at them for a single purchase. It's your call, but it's also really shortsighted to make a decision like this based on anger without thinking your options through.

How are the HG Z'Goks (regular and Char's) and HG GM? Discovered that they're dirt-cheap and actually in stock near me. I swear I heard that the Z'Goks physically aged and cracked in the box, but it could have been one reviewer being insane. Do they still hold up okay next to modern HGs?
>>
seriously hope p-bandai never comes back
>>
Pbandai is rare funko pops for snapshitters
>>
>>22590265
that's what it used to be when it just sold recolors and clear versions but now they put unique molds and shit in there like maxter, psyco doga, one million mission packs for f90
>>
>>22590265
I really wish that was the case, but nowadays they lock variants behind pbandai. The majority of the equipment for the demitray line is locked behind the Pbandai Demi Garrison for one recent example (as in, recent retail kit, recent pbandai kit).
>>
>>22590249
Having built the HG Z'Gok literally yesterday with it being new in box and all that biz, it seems pretty great to me with the only issue being loose joints for the most part. As for the GM it's also the same issue with the fucker barely being able to stand with out of the box snapping together with minimal cement.

The only one that's been breaking apart for me in terms of old HG's is the HG Gogg.

>do a full color correction job on a HG kit for practice and experience
>16 pieces that need masking and painting in sometimes three colors per piece
>the color separation is in super inconvenient places like crevices, corners and deep indentations, requiring very careful touching up afterward
>plan out a custom paint job on a RG kit where virtually every surface has to be an entirely different color from the original
>also 16 pieces that need masking, only ever two colors per piece
>none of the masking needs to be done in super sensitive areas, most of them are in panel line areas that will be easy to reach or just reverse wash

It feels really good to put in a bunch of work to make an HG look good, but goddamn RGs give you so much more peace of mind when it comes to painting because of the parts count and good color separation.
>>
>>22590249
The only issue that they have is that some of the arm ball joints can break on handling when just snapshitted, if they do you can easily fix them (or do this in advance to prevent the issue) by supergluing the ball joint part into the armour plate and then snapping the balls into the sockets as normal afterwards.
>>
>>22590249
It’s built like a brick but in a good way
>>
>>22590249
i've seen several different reviews and people mention the issues with Z'Gok's joints but I never had any problems with them myself and it was my first kit so I was as inexperienced as it gets. They are a bit finicky though and get loose easily.
GM is as simple as it gets but that doesn't mean it's bad. It has a shit ton of seams and limited articulation but both of these can be easily fixed with the way it's constructed.
Overall they hold up against modern kits if you think they look good, which is ultimately the single most important factor.
>>
>>22590249
I've got both recenty, the Z'gok is pretty solid kit, even has articulated torso. The limbs also hold up pretty well but I've been careful with them after hearing about the issues.
But the GM is an amazing kit even today. Very simple, sturdy, fun to build, and looks pretty OoB.
Thanks to their prices and simple construction, they're basically blank canvases you can customize however you like.
>>
>>22590562
nta but I am considering messing around with the ballden arms arm kit on an HG to improve articulation, would the GM be a good place to start?
>>
>>22590650
I wouldn’t cause the pegs are build right into the torso piece, you would have to do a lot of cutting. It would be easier with something that already has open space for polycaps

hey /gpg/
I haven't build gunplas in a decade and I just picked this guy off the shelves at a whim and finished it yesterday
after I am done there's a ton of left over parts for some reason, I didn't look at it too closely but while some of them looks like they could be extra parts, everything else doesn't looks like it comes from the same MS.

is this how they do HGs nowadaysd and just throw a bunch of random bits in your face or is it just this guy that has this issue
I have a bunch of other HG kits on the way so my only reference is this one.
>>
>>22591065
It's normal for kits that's a variant of something else to have leftover parts from the original kit.
That kit was a custom of both HG Raphael and HG Kutan, so it has leftovers from two kits.
>>
>>22591065
kits from Build series tend to be like that as they are in-universe kitbashes with some new stuff added and modified. From irl perspective this is also cost efficient for Bandai as it's much cheaper to reuse a mold than make a new one. even if there's a ton of spare parts. Obviously not all kits are like that, but they do it when they can get away with it.
>>
>>22591070
>>22591068
I see, thanks for the heads up.
>>
>>22591065
Typhoeus is a customized Gundam Raphael from 00, while the mobile armor is a customized Kutan from IBO with 2 Psycho Gundam MK2 arms. The leftovers mostly came from Gundam Raphael and Kutan's molds and completely compatible with the kit, leaving choices for customization.
>>
>>22591065
http://www.dalong.net/reviews/bf/gbt07/gbt07_i.htm
Just a thing with reused runners, of which this kit has a lot of. It's cheaper for them to "waste" the plastic than modify the steel molds.

and then there are the bizarre cases like Messer, which has a bunch of spare parts despite being a brand new mold. Sure, some of it is explainable by proofing for future variants but the parts for the head? not so much.

File: Messers.jpg (166 KB, 1280x720)

>>22591118
Oh that's because Messer has P Bandai variants, Commander type and type F02 with slightly different molds for the outer armor. When they produce similar-looking kits with shared mold, the overlapping tends to happen.
>>
What's the approach when painting kits with "skeletal" inner frames? I mean the kind that isn't meant to be displayed in a hangar diorama, but that's really just there for structural support and to do all the movement, where a few parts of it might stick out from underneath the armor when certain joints bend. Can I just top coat it and call it a day? The last time I tried to paint an inner frame with top coat it started scratching in the joint areas.
>>
>>22591128
okay but neither of these variants uses up the doubled head pieces. They don't have them as spare parts because that entire runner portion is missing, whereas regular Messer has them because it needs other pieces from that section. Which means either we'll get a Messer variant with a built-in alternative head option at some point or the runners just aren't well optimized.

The PB variants don't interact with that at all. The only thing they can do is put out a Messer with two heads, or alternatively, a Messer missing one arm and having a different one. If you're saying the molds had to be designed in such a way to duplicate all these parts for the sake of P-B variants or that it's a good thing, then no, we don't. It's a big waste and a stupid decision on Bandai's part.

if you want the easy solution just make some sprue goo and glue the base adapter to the stand

how do I even justify paying almost 100 leaf dollars for a damn pbandai kit? this is after tax and shipping, and even with middlemen services, it's still around this price. I've looked all over ebay, suru-gay-a, and mandarake and I only see a few on ebay for 3x the cost before tax and shipping.

nta but i've had bad luck with e2046, they regularly send me complete dogshit casts that i have no idea how they made it through their 3-tier qc checks, unless the qc stamp card they put in every box is a total lie and they don't actually qc check at all. i've had 1 that was completely unsalvagable and even the best one i've had from them hasn't been very good. i've seen a few of these pictures of allegedly perfect casts from them but that is not my experience with them at all, you're really rolling the dice. i refuse to buy from them again at this point

E2046 is the lowest quality recaster on the market. I only picked them because they were the cheapest + I already had like $100 worth of reward points and I'm not afraid of a little rescribing or sculpt work

Genuine question who is Bandai constantly remaking the RX-78-2 for? Is it for oldfags who watched 0079 as kids and are still nostalgic for the granddaddy gundam? Or perhaps for those who started with Wing/Seed/00 and at some point ended up using that as an entry point for watching UC? Or are perhaps the WFM kids just buying the kit because it looks cool?

If your local hobby shops are worth a damn, they should have Mr. Hobby and Tamiya acrylic out the ass that you could just pick up physically. They'll be marked up a bit over online shops, but it more or less evens out with shipping costs unless you buy in bulk online.

>>22590681
Take the opportunity to buy more than just one bottle of paint, stock up on paints you're low on and double up on paints you use frequently. You should always buy in bulk when ordering online to reduce how much you get raped by shipping.

honestly a bizarre choice, it could have easily paved the way for a Revive Alex if they put minimum effort into the kit. But everything around the Twilight Axis animation feels like a purposeful attempt to torpedo it and make sure there's no interest in it.

I like its connection to what would eventually become the Crossbone Vanguard. A lot of why I like Twilight Axis is its connections to F91 and Gundam Crossbone. The OVA's kits being largely outdated doesn't really bug me.
>>
>>22592223
Twilight Axis is pretty much an entire novel about letting go of Char obsession and appreciating the rest of UC, and it just so happens to introduce the predecessor to Crossbone Vanguard too.
Shame the ONA is a borderline incoherent slideshow because they had one guy make the entire thing other than music and voice acting.
