I get UC purists have to defend their timeline but why do you guys give the AU entries such unrelenting shit? Every English corner of the Gundam fandom has the same old "UC good all others bad, worst of UC beats best of AU". I actually want to see UC purists' point of view on this.

UC shows were deemed less marketable because they were older (and when they did try airing 0079 TV, it clearly didn't do as well as Wing did before it), which led to resentment about the sheer difficulty of watching them with any official translation.This led to a lot of frustration and pissing about "casuals" ruining the market. It took 17 years for every gundam show to be officially released in the US after they began, and even now, not everyone was given modern staples like a full, consistent cast dub like most popular titles get.It's all pointless and stupid now, and it was always stupid, but there was a history that led to this mentality.

00 is the only AU that feels like a decently thought out world to me. X, Turn A and G-reco are fine but they essentially just use UC as the framework (some more literally than others). G Gundam doesn't put much stake into the timeline itself. AGE and SEED are bloated messes with nonsense tech progression. And IBO and G-Witch essentially have these larger settings looming over their respective shows, but it just feels like the narrative doesn't want you to be curious about them, and I really don't like that. Haven't bothered to really look into Frozen Teardrop beyond basic synopsis to really form and opinion on Wing's overall timeline. But the TV series has a serviceable setting.

Even 00 which is pretty good and decent well liked still has a controversial second season and movie that a lot of people dislike. But then we've got Wing, SEED, AGE, IBO, G-Witch... it's pretty easy to just write off AUs entirely when almost all of them are garbage, even if there are some like G, X, and 00 still holding them up. And I wouldn't blame someone who likes UC for instinctively dismissing G either, given how different and silly it is.
