The author seems to be pretty good at world building and making characters, but not so good at making sensible plots or satisfying narratives. Often it seems she uses world building to "fix" plot holes instead of directly fixing the plot. That's why when arc 1 needed to justify things like how the nightwings crossed the entire continent to get to the jungle undetected, the author chose to make a magic system so she could conjure any magical bullshit object needed for the story. It kinda worked in arc 1 since the protagonists don't have full access to an animus dragon and therefore are limited to the magical objects they obtained. Unfortunately arc 2 tried to do a lot more with animus magic, and it failed miserably, mostly because animus magic was not designed in a way where it could be used as a proper magic system. It had no balancing mechanism whatsoever, and now that it's actually a central part of the story and not just a contrived way of adding magical objects to make plot happen it completely falls apart.Personally I wouldn't recommend reading wof for the plot. I would really only recommend it for the world building and mostly for cute girl dragons.

Arc 2 had some gay stuff, but it was off to the side and had no bearing on the plot and could be ignored. Arc 3, however, is really where the series drops off. One of the main protagonists is a lesbian and you're forced to deal with her cringe relationship drama hatred towards her parents. Another one of the characters has two moms. There is even a nonbinary human character for some reason. I got so sick of arc 3 I couldn't even bring myself to finish the last book. The plot becomes a big mess and half the characters aren't likable. The only good thing about arc 3 is Cricket and Snowfall (because cute dragon girls).
