The protag basically has to deal with the quirks of each girl while also trying to fend off a rival treehouse group. As the head of security, the protag is super good at fighting and infiltration and all that type of stuff. He doesn't always solve every problem flawlessly, but it does feel like he can deal with almost any situation. A lot of the girls also seem to be romantically interested in him from the get go. Honestly, I'm probably making it sound a little worse than it actually is. Keep in mind I basically only played the prologue, and that was a few years ago. So I could be remembering some things wrong, or the game could have changed a lot since then.

It was probably a case of more overkill, but it's what they wanted to do and as long as I just had to focus on art I didn't mind.My biggest regret about that iteration being put out of commission was the fact we had finished the script for a Lyra side route and I had talked Rot/Rhorse to do the voice acting for Lyra.

I worked on a pony VN as a pet project a few years back. Think I'll wax nostalgic about it, share some of my insights for whatever little they're worth. More of a cautionary tale of what not to do really.Let's start with my elevator pitch. My main inspiration in terms of game structure was CoC, especially the reader being able to transition from scene to scene with some degree of freedom and randomness.I don't consider myself particularly good at any of the skills most folk think are necessary to putting out a VN. I barely knew anything about coding, and I'm certainly no artist. My coding problem I solved by going to uni. For art, I traced vectors from the show, then kitbashed bodies and expressions to get usable sprites. Backgrounds I took from asset leaks and upscaled screencaps. Music was easy enough to source from royalty-free websites.All I needed at that point was to write, and I did. Tapped out at around 100k words. As for why I stopped, you could probably guess. Too ambitious for a first time project, didn't have an end point to move the overarching story towards, started losing track of all the loose threads; all the usual suspects I'd seen take many a fan project down and for some dumb reason thought wouldn't get me.
