Someone in the last thread was saying something about retards not making good slaves or pets. But did you know that I have a slave role just for the sole purpose of suffering? The lucky pony in question gets to have the title of pain slave and their entire life's purpose revolves around that. So you see, Derpy is perfect for the job. I don't need her to trim the hedges, work the mines, dust the house...none of that. I'll touch more on this later.

Being given a name is a privilege often taken for granted. Eventually they can be given a name when the time is right. Perhaps they did something particularly notable or made you proud somehow. If I don't know about pony cutie marks that would be quite the surprise when they appear on their flanks. I could see that being the right time to name them. Would the cutie marks of the m6 be different because they are being raised in an alternative timeline? Or are cutie marks tied to fate and preordained. And there is the whole elements of harmony thing. But since this is an alternative timeline, it's possible another group of ponies would be selected as the elements of harmony, and the m6 would be mere background ponies living with their master.
I think it would be interesting if the cutie marks were different. But if i don't have previous pony knowledge then I wouldn't know the difference. If they were different what would they be? The owner's upbringing methods, their environment, and innate abilities would steer what it could be.

But to answer your question, Twilight's character has a lot more going on than just "magic nerd". And when I think of Magnus I think "magic and power", which seems more Starlight. Ultramarines are the poster children for Space Marines for the longest time, Twilight is the poster child for FiM. Gman is also very by the book, think lists for Twilight. He's also considered a bit of a Gary Sue, which Twilight gets accused of being a Mary Sue on occasion. And Twilight is constantly aiming to please Celestia (teh empra). The Ultramarines have plenty of well accomplished librarians as well.
