I've noticed that the current, non-/mlp/ adjacent fandom only makes the same mediocre played out crap over and over. It's all jokes about yuri, shipping, the same tired subpar fanon/headcanons, bad redesigns, and humanizations played out ad nauseam with no originality. I know this apparentally all typical content that all fandoms engage in but I've never held any interest for any of it. I also noticed that anyone with seemingly any actual skill, taking on bigger projects, or is related to /mlp/ in any way makes none of this kind of content and it tends to be better.Of course, that isn't to say /mlp/ doesn't have it's own content that gets repeated forever nor is it the pinnacle of quality but a lot of the fandom and younger fans enjoyment of ponies feels much shallower, as if they're just purposelessly making/copying stuff to use as a personality or aesthetic. Just following the crowd, just to be a part of something. Whereas on /mlp/ there is a much closer emotional connection to the ponies here, things are made with intent and love. Obviously the entire fandom isn't like this but I see it enough to notice it. Thoughts? Am I wrong?
I think you're reading too much into it. Pretty much all fandoms fall into recursive cycles when there's no new content for the thing the fandom's focused on, /mlp/ has the occasional small amount of organization to push away from that tendency but that's only getting rarer with time.
>>43029029Yuritardation is just extremely popular nowadays for whatever messed up reason. Probably retardation
>>43029039what causes the complete lack of that kind of content though? Obviously you'll have 1 or 2 threads featuring it at times but it's very easy to browse this board without ever seeing any of it. Is it just a demographic thing?
>>43029029Unironically because we are all white here on /mlp/
>>43029029>closer emotional connection to the ponies>made with intent and loveTrue, that's why I'm here, I want to be around others who have a genuine fondness for the mares, the same fondness I feel. It's hard to describe in words Anon. I love them. I'll always love them.
>>43029042It's because yuri is the best thing in the world
>>43029253You're witnessing a fandom on its last dying breathe with nothing to really look forward to, divided by various subfandoms who have done nothing but harm to everyone in it, with IP creators who couldn't care less about it. Hasbro not giving a fuck about the brand could be excused if there weren't people who just left during the show's decline or became furries, redditors, /qa/ rejects and trannies and infested everything about MLP on a cellular level. But it could be worse look at fans of Fallout, Star Trek, Predator, Game of Thrones, Star Wars, capeshit, Terminator and a whole laundry list of other franchises and fandoms.
>>43029381>Some say this board is a relic of early 10s 4chanYeah, I don't know how anyone says that. This feels nothing like any of the boards I browsed did.
>>43029029Ohhhhh, no, you're right about alot of things. Like you said, this community isn't perfect either. But it is different. Online fandom is, in alot of places, primarily pandering to modern day narcissism. So alot of people getting into MLP (or other groups) aren't getting in because they're interested in the story and symbolism or any of that. They're getting involved in these fandoms to turn them into extensions of their identity. This is a lot of the internet. Different people coming on and trying to make the entire world revolve around them and their convenience. It is also, like, heavily favoured by media IP's such as ours, which dislike fandoms due to their uncontrollable and, ultimately unprofitable, nature. We can call this "un-fandom" or "neofandom". Neofandom is shallow because it has no interest in the actual thing it's purporting interest in. It's just people using external media to try and construct an ideal self for other people to oggle and marvel over. (1/2)
>>43029469This is why fandom staples (shipping for example) feel extremely fucking irritating on the rest of the net. Yuri & yaoi are cool. So are straight ships (shocking! I know!) But the people obsessing over yuri (or ships generally) aren't. They're cringe. It's a bunch of disaffected weirdos who have no connection to their actual body, using media as a means to try and portray to others how special/different/interesting they are. It's extremely aggravating because it's not genuine at all. Take a look at archived art for yuri in our fandom, for example. You'll notice there's a major tone difference between former popular pony yuri vs modern pony yuri. This goes so far as that even the artistic style and colouring choices are wildly different. This same behaviour extends to a lot of things. It results in absurd fandom wank. People arguing about everything under the sun, primarily because it insults their perceived sense of self they constructedThis is also what results in the gooning crisis we see online, everywhere, prevalent in fandoms. People are too obsessed with having a perceivable, perfect and marketable self. This leads to a lot of tension. Gooning is a way for people to try and reach oblivion of self. Something which they can never achieve. All of which comes right back to that narcissism. That belief that one's own convenience and sense of identity are more important than anyone else's. This is deeply tied into emotional maturity and an inability to be genuine. What makes modern fandom so bullshit is that it's so fake. /mlp/ suffers some of these problems, but it's a lot better. I can make a general about mares addicted to crack and explore that concept here. I couldn't really do that anywhere else. (2/2)

>>43029029You say this but /mlp/ is no diffrrent in its dwelling on a few topics.
>>43029029>My self-shipping and gooning is different and not at all shallow like those other '''''adjacent fandoms'''''No.
