And so on. /mlp/ is not my first rodeo. I have seen the exact same patterns appear in a small(ish) forum (maybe 10k people at peak) over a course of 10 years from 2006 to 2016. It was a community around a single game. The core community becomes more and more toxic and fends of any newcomers or new contents and it becomes an unproductive circlejerk. And once it crosses that line, even the toxic core will start leaving. In that case it was an open source game and in 2015 (when there was about 250 active players at any given moment) or so the core game devs who were actively partaking in the community were harassed so much that they stopped contributing. It was a fast downhill from there. A year later on a good day there was 15 players online. Even the forums which were not run by the devs ended up abandoned by who ran it and collapsed after a few years, content completely lost.
We are not far from the unproductive line. Just count how many writefags there are. Or drawfags. We are balancing on a fine line. Once that line is crossed even the remaining core will start leaving.
