I attempted local music at one point. It was exactly the sort of unpolished music someone in their early 20's with little proper training but a lot of heart would make. It wasn't conventionally rock or metal enough to actually play at the local dive bars that hosted all the Flaming Lips and High on Fire rip-offs that got to jack each other off every other night so instead I got stuck playing "experimental" house shows with a bunch of absolutely unwashed and uncultured "diy punks" who mostly performed "experimental noise" which was just feedback + rolling around on the floor. Someone complimented me on "playing music that was in tune" and "having lyrics" after a show once and I decided I was done for good.(I also played keys in a garage rock indie band for a bit until the drummer got cancelled for assaulting a girl in the bar bathroom and our frontman left to start a pop punk band with more popular scene kids)
