Why did Pitchfork stop praising good music? Why did /mu/ stop talking about music altogether?
The fappening brought on all the brain dead coomers and 2016 brought on all the election tourists.

Fading relevance of both. Nobody talks about either one anymore, but they both used to be defining forces in music culture.Pitchfork was always shit, but they helped promote some good bands, Trail of Dead being a prime example./mu/ stagnated, and desu I think it's because of /pol/'s cultural impact. I got here in 2009. Apparently early on /mu/ had been about nerdy stuff like power metal and j-pop. By '09 it was as hipster as it would ever get, and was into things like noise rock, no wave, industrial, and some indie stuff like NMH.By 2015 4chan shifted from being ironic to being right wing. /mu/ was one of the last holdouts of old 4chan culture, but by 2018 it was as "alt right" as anywhere else on the site. By 2019 it was already in decline, and the alt right types had gone schizo, posting stupid conspiracy theories all day.Now it's a pale shadow of what it once was, and people just continue to post the same mediocre indie they've been posting for the past 10 years, over and over again. It's way slower now, and it just isn't relevant.
>>131776105I've posted new bands and people just call em tranny
>>131776240again, it's the /pol/ effect. Many of the loudest posters on this board are braindead right wingers who hate everything outside of their stupid comfort zone.
>>131776240/mu/ got more trolly in general. No matter what you post, there's going to be some asshole telling you to kys, fuck off, or eat shit. Try to ignore them and focus on the music you like.
>>131776028fuck yeah, I really like Broken by NIN, such a good EP
>>131776290But then nothing new happensWhen was the last time anything was called /mu/core?
>>131776383We're on a sinking ship. The quality of conversations has gone down. The best you can do is post stuff you like and talk about things other people post, but you can't worry about the majority because this place sucks now.
>>131776419Feel that's everywhere onlinePeople refusing to acknowledge new things being good at all so all thats left is nostalgia bait and lowest common denominator boredom
>>131776454I can definitely see that, and it's annoying because I actually think music and movies are way better now than they were in the late 2010s, but stupid people are whining that things aren't good now baselessly, because they prefer old slop.I think the exception is finding specific niches. For example, I like blackened doom metal, so I go on Bandcamp and dig through that niche, look at music festivals catering to that niche (in this case, ones like Prepare the Ground, Fire in the Mountains, Northwest Terror Fest, etc.), see who bands are touring with, and seeing what other fans of bands like Mizmor are listening to. When I find another niche I like, I do the same thing, getting to know the current ecosystem there. But it definitely takes some digging, and generalized platforms like /mu/ and Reddit really don't cut it anymore.
