https://www.inquirer.com/politics/election/trump-pennsylvania-raising-minimum-wage-20241021.htmlWhile visiting a McDonald’s in Bucks County on Sunday, former President Donald Trump failed to answer a question about raising the minimum wage even though an overwhelming majority of Pennsylvania voters support an increase.Trump, 78, “worked” the fry cooker at a McDonald’s — which was closed to the public for the event — in Feasterville. In a video clip posted on X, a large group of reporters can be seen in the reflection of the drive-through window as Trump speaks to them through the open side.“Well, I think this,” Trump began in response to a question about raising the minimum wage. “I think these people work hard. They’re great. And I just saw something — a process that’s beautiful.”The beginning of the question is cut off, so it’s unclear if the reporter was asking about raising Pennsylvania’s minimum wage specifically. At $7.25, the state’s minimum wage is aligned with the federal rate, and is one of the lowest minimum wages in the country. It hasn’t been changed since 2009, the last time the federal minimum wage was increased.“It’s a beautiful thing to see these are great franchises and produce a lot of jobs and it’s great,” Trump went on. “And great people work in here too.” As several reporters shouted again about the minimum wage, he continued to ignore them.Trump’s obfuscation could mean something to the more than three-quarters of all Pennsylvanians who somewhat or strongly support increasing the state minimum wage.According to a Philadelphia Inquirer/ New York Times/ Siena College poll released in mid-October, 82% of eligible Pennsylvania voters at least somewhat support raising the wage. Among eligible voters planning to vote for Trump, 67% somewhat or strongly support raising the wage compared to 96% of voters who plan to cast a ballot for Vice President Kamala Harris.
32BJ SEIU, a labor union that represents service workers including maintenance workers, security guards and food service workers, has long advocated for raising Pennsylvania’s minimum wage to $15 as part of the “Fight for $15″ campaign.“Trump’s McDonald’s theatrics are a slap in the face to the men and women who work those jobs in real life and make a poverty wage of $7.25 an hour in Pennsylvania,” said Sam Williamson, 32BJ SEIU Vice President and PA State Director. “As a founder of the ‘Fight for $15′ movement, we know the life-changing difference that an increased minimum wage can make for working families in PA and across the country. It sends a loud and clear message that Kamala Harris is the only candidate who will bring relief for working families by raising the federal minimum wage.”Trump’s visit to the fast food chain came after Harris, 60, has said on the campaign trail that she worked at McDonald’s as a teenager.

>>1355774Wow, you must know a lot about economics methodologies. Even more than Harvard economists and Nobel Prize winners? https://www.cnbc.com/2024/10/23/nobel-prize-winning-economists-donald-trump-agenda-endorse-harris.html
>>1355840You say that as if MAGAtards give any shits about facts or reality. Economics is only real if they agree with Trump. If they don't then they're fake and jewish. There's nothing you can show them that their cult programming can't rewrite and dismiss.
>>1355842This. Economics seems to be the one issue where people can selectively arbitrarily decide what data supports the narrative they want to push, and not get any substantial pushback.>people's ability to buy shit is diminished under Trump>right-wingers: "BUT LOOK AT THE STOCK MARKET! LINE GOES UP = GOOD!">stock market breaks records under Biden>right-wingers: "THE STOCK MARKET DOESN'T MATTER. PEOPLE CAN'T AFFORD EGGS AND MILK!"
>>1355848Its also the issue where data and public opinion can have no relation to each other. All economic indicators can be booming but if half of the country is inundated in a media bubble that constantly tells them the U.S. is on the verge of collapse they'll report in polling that the economy is doing terribly. All you need to do is show some MAGA retard a video of one North Carolina pig-shit farmer telling you that chili dogs and ford trucks are expensive under Biden cause communism and all of the economic data in the world means nothing to them. They operate in feelings and anecdotes, not reality.
>>1355850>Hmm. Doesn't appear to be non-partisan. So, to be clear, you've provided zero evidence that the data or methodology is wrong. You posted a wikipedia of an economist and suggested that his conclusions are bias because he's a Democrat but you can't substantiate that in any way whatsoever. If you had turned this post in as a research essay in an 8th grade class you would've gotten an F. >I at least know to investigate further No. No you don't know how to investigate. You did the opposite. You knew you had zero argument for why the data was wrong so you attacked the source instead. You started from the conclusion that you didn't like the data then searched for reasons to confirm that conclusion.
>>1355851>what are the China tariffs
The only problem is that anyone is asking this senile delinquent anything. He deserves no attention. He is a cancerous growth on the union.
>>1355852You're correct - the post-Trump and post-COVID economy experienced a large inflation spike following a country saving stimulus package. Inflation is now decreasing at record rates and the U.S. is now out performing every other first-world OECD country on the planet. If your understanding of economics is "well big gulps done be expensive while Biden president" you need to turn yourself into your local circuit court and petition the judge to have you put into adult foster care.
>>1355860>But they had no effect on the price of anything. You'd be wrong. Trump had to sign off on subsidies in the billions to bail out the industries he crippled with tariffs. >Also I bought my house under Trump, a feat impossible before.Thank you for communicating your massive lack of intelligence. You're one of those people that can't differentiate correlation vs. causation. A good thing happened to you under Trump and because you don't know how to examine macro-economics with any critical thinking you generalize your own personal anecdote onto the entirety of the country and associate that good thing with Trump in contrary to actual data. My girlfriend broke up with me during the Olympics so, clearly, the Olympics broke up our relationship. I had a really good cheeseburger during the month of July so that must mean that July is the best month for cheeseburgers. This is the dumbfuck logic you're using right now. >I'm starting to suspect you don't know what you're talking about, anon.Irony coming from the "Well, I personally experienced a good thing while Trump was president so it must be because Trump was a good president" moron.
>>1355856>Your source is failing to provide sources and the source your source is reporting on Another thing you would've learned if you had passed the 8th grade is called the burden of proof. You are the one making the positive claim that this data is biased and wrong but your proof is "Well I looked on Wikipedia and he's a Democrat". The burden of proof is on you to establish why the data is wrong, which you can't do. >has no innate authority simply because he won a Nobel Prize. He has an authority because he's a trained professional in the study of economics who has personally examined and analyzed the data then made that data public for peer review/critique. What you're asking is that we dismiss the findings of Nobel Prize winning experts and instead believe you, a random schizoid dipshit with no training in anything because you looked up a Wikipedia.
>>1355869>Well, also I can't afford a house now because wages haven't kept up with inflation. I don't give a shit about your personal ability to buy a house, anon. Besides your moronic relying on personal anecdotes, you're also not smart enough to understand that there are two sides to any economic equation, especially housing. In markets when housing is really cheap its bad for homeowners and good for buyers. In markets when housing is expensive its really bad for buyers but good for homeowners. Depending on the location and market there are always winners and losers. Thinking that because you're losing everyone is losing, again, communicates your massive lack of education on this topic. >Food is also rather expensive. There is no economic data to support the idea that your average American is struggling to buy food. >Life is more difficult in general. You're giving me your feelings, anon. I don't care about your feelings. I use statistics to build my economic opinions, not like how you feel life is going. >This isn't just my own experience, you do understand that, right? You could find ten thousand people with the same experience and it would mean nothing in context with the data. We are a country of 400 million people, anon. This is why we use data, not your personal story.
>>1355866>Bidenflation was caused by the Biden stimulus package and the economy is recovering from Bidenflation and Biden's economic policy did nothing but cause problems. Here's the reason you're not to be taken seriously - inflation really started spiking in April of 2021, less than 3 months after Biden took office, meaning that Biden didn't cause it. Additionally, you're trying to convince me that Biden caused inflation with his policies but now that inflation is cooling, the fed is cutting interest rates, unemployment is at all time lows and purchasing power is increasing that's all happening by itself and Biden's policies mean nothing? You're a severely unserious person with absolutely no insight on economics. You have absolutely no clue what you're talking about. >Additionally, it's important to remember Biden did not repeal the Trump tariffs. The reason Biden didn't repeal the tariffs has nothing to do with the tariffs being good. The reason you don't immediately repeal tariffs is because when you tariff a country they retaliate with tariffs back. If you tariff China 20% and they tariff you 20% back you have negotiate with China to get them to agree to a deal or else your exporters are still paying the 20% while theirs are paying nothing. You're a fucking moron. An unbelievable idiot.
>>1355885>You're useless anon. I know what you're here for.>I've already given you at least $.50 in shill bucks.Alas. Here's the part of the debate where you completely give up and pretend like coming up with a coherent argument is beneath you because you realize you're outclassed.>You can use Google to source all my anecdotes because they apply to nearly every AmericanWell, they don't apply. If they applied to nearly every American you wouldn't have to use personal anecdotes to convince me, you could give me data, but can't. The data shows the opposite of what you're saying. You base your opinion of economics on feels and stories - that's why you have no clue what you're talking about. That's why when I give you the argument about housing and the data on food prices you have an autism meltdown and say "I'm not debating you anymore shill!" instead of giving me a counter argument. You have none. You're a joke.>I don't really care for your constant appeals to authority either. I appeal to data, which you have absolutely no argument against. Your argument is "Well, I feel really strongly about something so it must be right and apply to everyone". It doesn't. That's how children build their opinions of the world. You lack even the most basic of critical thinking skills.>Enjoy your shill bucks, queer.Enjoy your BTFO
>>1355499but he does want working class wages and working conditions to improve, and their housing costs to be lowered. His immigration policies would lead to that, while the Democrats' open borders would have the opposite effect (and mass immigration is the reason people can't afford rent now)
>>1355892Everyone knows food insecurity has increased massively since Biden took over.Foods getting pretty expensive
>>1355835>sensible_chuckle.gif
