Anonymous Pentagon releases annual Chine(...) 12/18/24(Wed)15:58:22 No. 1369263 The People’s Republic of China has improved its ability to project power globally despite corruption purges and a shrinking economy, the Pentagon’s annual report card on the Chinese military says. According to the report, China now has more than 600 operational nuclear warheads as of mid-2024, 100 more than last year and 200 more than the year before that. The Pentagon projects that China will field more than 1,000 nuclear warheads by 2030 and that the force will continue to grow further through 2035, in line with last year’s projections. Anonymous 12/19/24(Thu)00:57:07 No. 1369356 >>1369295 What "isn't news" about it? It's more newsworthy than some submissions - and the title to it actually matches the content so it's already leagues above other submissions in terms of quality. Contains 'acceptable' intro and supporting linkage. Just 'cause you don't like the pentagon's assessment that you're unable to compete with china on a playing field tilted heavily to your advantage doesn't make it not news.>>

Anonymous 12/19/24(Thu)01:19:16 No. 1369366 >>1369362 it's a watered down pentagon report on what they think the Chinese military has been up to in the past year, except we don't get to see the classified parts so it's useless to all but people who study defense for a living. Not only that, but the closest thing to a news source in the op is defense.gov, literally government propaganda.>>
Anonymous 12/19/24(Thu)01:52:17 No. 1369377 >>1369366 Okay. So it's output by a US .gov agency. That doesn't automagically denote all to be propaganda. Or more accuately, this doesn't mean it's absent tangible data. From the 'propaganda' claim itself, beyond the desperate calling cry of 'we need moar munny' that is the hallmark of any .gov agency, what advantages are there in peddling this 'narrative'? To me it seems like a reasonably unbiased assessment of capacities, and a semi-decent data point to use against other data to assess authenticity. It's certainly more 'news' than a link to someone's blog that appeared earlier.
