‘Overwhelming’: Drivers discouraged over congestion pricing
NEW YORK (PIX11) — The MTA is urging eligible drivers to apply for discounts and exemptions ahead of the start of the congestion pricing plan, which will go into effect one week from today.

The deadline to apply is today.

A New Jersey lawsuit is pending that seeks to overturn the Federal Highway Administration’s decision to move forward with congestion pricing.

Commuters are anxiously waiting for the outcome of that lawsuit and hoping it is beneficial for them, otherwise, they say they have no other option but to lose more money to go into this part of the city, money they say they work very hard for.

Many expressed their unhappiness, which appears to be the sentiment of most commuters driving into the city on Sunday afternoon. But that’s not stopping congestion pricing from going into effect on the first Sunday of 2025.

“It is overwhelming. We are already paying a lot and 9 dollars! It is crazy,” said Ofman.

Most drivers will be charged $9 when entering the Central Business District in Manhattan below 60th Street.

“It is a lot of money it adds up, you are talking about $45 a week, or $180 a month. It adds up. For working people it is a problem,” stated Ricky.

Congestion pricing aims to reduce traffic and pollution, create safer streets, and make public transit better. All paid for with the one billion dollars estimated to come in each year with the new toll.

“I hate it because my girlfriend lives, and I go to the city. All my friends are there, hopefully, they do something about it,” concluded Sorry.

Use thr NYC, it's one of the world's best.Nice and warm, with burning people. If you can afford to drive a car in NYC, you can afford the extortion fees.

White collar types working in Manhattan can easily afford it and the blue collar support types (custodial and such) are taking trains and busses.

Oopsy, use the NYC subway
>>
>>1371506
Working blue collar Hispanics are expendable, if they get burned up. You'll never see a Healthcare CEO use the subway. People be toasting marshmallows on his burning body.

literally a regressive tax so the mega rich can drive around with less traffic while the middle class get lit on fire.
>>
>>1371513
>I can't move two recliners, a sofa, four wheels, four light fixtures, and an engine through the city for free anymore!
>I'm getting lit on fire!!!
>>
>>1371503
Hey if these dumbasses are so worries about the pricing, maybe they can all ride together. Call it a "car jacuzzi" or something.
>>
>>1371520
retardo, see >>1370128
>>
remember, they are anti car, because they don't want people to have freedom of movement
>>
>>1371528
>because they don't want people to have freedom of movement
Anon you still need a road.
>>
>>1371527
Hey maybe this tax can pay for more transit security. Win win win.
>>
>>1371529
a. there are a fuck ton of roads and a lot of roads were made by city or state governments
b. you can go off roading
>>1371530
a. it won't, the tax will go into an embezzlement slush fund
b. the cops won't do anything anyway because its racist to arrest a minority who is actively doing a rape, assault or murder.
>>
>>1371503
Mark my words, this sort of thing is eventually going to be used to keep the poors out of Southern, White communities that are surrounded by Blacker areas. That's more or less what's already happening here, considering the delineation line separating lower & midtown Manhattan from Harlem & the South Bronx.
>>
>>1371543
blacks in harlem and the bronx don't own cars. though your proposal seems mega based
>>
>>1371531
Honestly I couldn't give two shits where the money goes as long as it lightens traffic. It could be set on fire along with women as far as I care.
>>
Congestion pricing will soon be on every road in every country in the world. Want to visit your family for Thanksgiving or Christmas? That will be $500 in congestion charges for traveling on the highway.
>>
>>1371605
That'd be interestijg, but probably not.
>>
>>1371604
its still 4 times faster to drive though nyc than to take the train or bus
>>
>>1371660
and only 20x more expensive
>>
>>1371661
because they are adding this congestion charge to try to make people take the train because mass transit is literally that much worse
>>
>>1371660
>4 times faster
>100x worse to park
Just take an uber if you want a car so bad.
>>
>>1371721
>just let the roads only be for rich companies
>>
Jaywalking is an illegitimate law. Look up it's origins for an immense blackpill on the auto industry.
>>
>>1371724
auto industry is based. only soi bois and commies hate it
>>
>>1371660
With less traffic on the road buses will certainly be faster.
>>
>>1371722
Really there should be next to zero cars in Manhattan. Mostly only delivery trucks and emergency vehicles.
>>
>>1371739
no they won't. because they will still take retard routes and stop every 50 yards and they will still have terrible fuckers on it like that michael jackson fag who got choked
>>1371740
>make the roads only for rich companies so everyone else needs to take 4 times as long to get anywhere and gets stabbed or lit on fire in the subway
>>
>>1371742
Nah, more bikes you lazy ass
>>
>>1371743
only homosexuals ride bikes
>>
>>1371766
Only homosexuals live in Manhattan and own cars kek
Why the fuck would you want to live there and drive. The roads are a clusterfuck and the traffic is insane. Maybe move somewhere that you can actually enjoy getting use out of a car
