i will realistically be able to afford her in about 2 more years. it wouldn't be a good financial decision, but i want her so bad.
>>

>it wouldn't be a good financial decision
Actually would be if you kept it for a very long time, Imagine someone who spent we'll call it $148,000 or so in today's money on an original NSX in 1991, well they would still have a car that goes for $60,000 to $100,000 depending on mileage, there's a 174,000 miles 1991 model that recently sold for $66,666, imagine putting 174,000 miles on a $150,000 car and getting 66 grand back 33 years later, That doesn't happen in any other car.
>>
FK/FL bros, what even happened? I'm used to cars understeering or doing a weight transfer and trying to kill you but, but his kept rotating into the dirt with the wheels pointing toward the track.

Also is 282F oil temp even safe? Honda specced out the same 0W-20 that I use in an Accord motor, I hope he had a 30 or 40 weight in there but that's still really hot.

That's a bit sketchy, I feel like I'm gonna blow up the old economy car when I beat it up on Mobil1 0W-20, I'll bet the first thing to get hurt if he didn't wreck that car was the K20C motor.

What about maintenance, though?
>>
>>27532026
It's not horrifying at all, at least on a 1991 C30 engine with timing belt and water pump that should be done every 10 years for peace of mind, 5 quarts of 10W-30 when you need it, regular drive belt, the engine filter, manual transmission fluid when needed, it's not much worse than a regular car, and that was the draw to an old NSX, especially when you consider the enjoyment and mileage you're getting, you put 174,000 miles on a 90s Mercedes S class or a 7 series benz, you lost all that money, they're worthless, and those cars are maintenance nightmares, at least when you maintain an NSX, along with most Hondas, you're left with a car that is at least worth something.

I have a 07 v6 accord, and I’d like to change the spark plugs. How do I know if my vehicle is California or regular emissions? This determines the gap. I don’t see an emissions sticker in the engine bay or on the hood. The only sticker is on the rear driver side window, and it says “epa certified carb certified”.If anyone has the same generation model, can you confirm that this means the engine is California emissions?

Dash kit has arrived but I haven't chosen a radio as yet. After watching a few YT vids I'm a bit worried about how much wiring I'll have to do to get the new radio working with all the steering controls, backup cam, etc.

I actually didn't they sell harnesses. I got the dash kit from crutch and will most likely get the radio from them as well. I see these types of harnesses but it'll still require some amount of wiring. It doesn't seem like much work but if anyone can fuck that up it will definitely be me. I will reach out to them though, maybe they have a pre-made one that's wired on both ends
>>
>>27532976
Unfortunately, there will have to be soldering done to mate up that harness adapter with the harness connector that comes with whatever radio you get, this is all so that the wiring of the car isn't cut up and destroyed, do not feel ashamed to go to audio Mexicans to have either the harness adapter soldered together, or the radio and Metra kit installed entirely.

Why do they do this? A Civic barely has any sound deadening to weigh it down to begin with because shitbox, and how much can that plastic trim weigh? You'd probably get more weight reduction just by deleting your 30 lb spare tire, which is why Honda does that to save weight now.

Silly question: If you needed to repaint your steelies and you only have one set of wheels and no jack stands, do you take each wheel off and paint them one by one then put them back? Is there an easier way to do this like spray paint them while they're still on the car (after covering the rotor/brakes/etc.)?

To further complicate things, I'll have to do it in a random Walmart parking lot cause I have no space at my apartment lot.

Got a head gasket test done and I'm happy it isn't blown. Seems I just need a radiator. And maybe a water pump.
>>
>>27535788
That's good news Anon, it is a thing on Hondas for the water pump to basically fail out of nowhere and not circulate the coolant, it's a good thing you caught it too, because it can overheat the D17 motor and cause an actual head gasket failure.
>>
>>27535792
Yeah im having a coolant flow problem. Im going to just do both really thing about it. Doesn't help i already ordered new strut's. So ill just do them and like a pay check or so ill have the rad and pump done. Doing the struts myself of course.

>So ill just do them and like a pay check or so ill have the rad and pump done
That's awesome Anon, I've been in the same boat where you're fixing whatever you can afford to fix at any particular time, and it seems like you're dumping money into an old car, but fixing the car you have is the right thing to do.
>>
>>27535808
Yeah but this is gonna last for me. My reason for the struts is they are all shot. I'm like $250 for all 4 so that isn't that bad. And I'm doing that myself. Other then an alignment after. I got the car for 2k so it not like i dumped 4500 on it.

>>27533767
They stopped selling full strut/shock assemblies for the 2009 SI. I don't know where to get all the random little parts.

>>27536103
I have no clue, the ones for 8th gen all re-use a lot of the stock parts that aren't sold anymore. And everywhere I read seems to indicate that they are worse than stock + virtually always lower, which isn't something I want. Though I researched for 8th gen.

Just bolted a TSX shifter into a CM5. It drives nicely, but the shift-lock solenoid logic is bung and wont let you back into park or reverse without manually actuating the shift lock (TSX has no lockout button on the shift lever, so it uses the shift lock to keep you out of R and P while moving). I'm replacing the electronic shift lock with a mechanical unlock button on the base of the shifter.

Are those window deflectors any good? I try to ride windows open in my CM to save fuel and go faster, but it's so fucking loud on the freeway with the buffeting, those things look like they would be cool to crack the windows even on a rainy day without getting water in.
>>
>>27538452
They're not perfect but i do like them. Great for having the window less than halfway down without too much buffeting. It'll still be a bit loud
I'll keep my driver window and rear passenger windows cracked maybe 15% and the airflow is good without being too deafening.
Honestly the sunroof deflector is the mvp. You can keep it fully open with no real noise or buffeting

I don't often drive on the highway though, but even for short bursts up to 90 or so it's ok. The car is somewhat louder than I'd want anyways as far as road noise isolation is concerned
>>
>>27538478
>Great for having the window less than halfway down without too much buffeting
Sounds exactly like what I'm looking for, I'm already used to freeway noises and the absurd amount of road noise from the double wishbone suspension on this thing, but it's all good as long as my car isn't having turbulence, also I can leave my windows down a little and ventilating if my car is ever left in the sun so the interior doesn't melt the headliner again.

>>
>>27538971
people complain that steering feels sticky, jerky, and notchy at highway speeds and they have to overcompensate to turn. the issue seems to come and go for most people. i think i read that weather (can't remember if cold or hot) affects it.
>>
>>27538971
>I have noticed that the steering wheel seems to "stick" or feel "notchy" when making small adjustments from center (12 o clock) position. This is most noticeable when driving on a long, straight stretch of freeway requiring minor adjustments to keep the car centered. The steering will stick when attempting to making small corrections, requiring extra force to overcome resistance. After providing more force, the steering will suddenly give way, typically causing overcorrection in the opposite direction. As a result, I have to weave back and forth in my lane to keep the car straight. Interestingly, this issue seems to only occur when the ambient temperature is warm (usually 70+ F), and the car has been driven for at least 20-30 minutes.

i've read a lot of people reporting this problem in multiple internet forums

A new Civic is never a bad decision, but even if it's new, you will get bent over on oil changes, transmission fluid, and various filter just like I do, it just is what it is, and as the car gets older, service advisors will start suggesting expensive repairs because old car, so you end up paying a bunch of money to keep your now older car going, or just getting a new car, so no matter how you go about it, there's no way that wrenchlets like us don't pay the price.

That's car ownership Anon, if you own anything for a long enough time, 15 years+, the car is gonna need over a thousand dollars for struts, possible control arms on top of that, if the car is leaking from somewhere and needing a re-seal, tires, brakes front and rear, whatever else, it's all part of the car, and will need to be done at some point, unless you're gonna make payments on things the rest of your life.

You just can't get ahead doing that, replacing a darn near $30,000 car every 150,000 miles or so isn't economically viable because you're uptight over spending $1000+ on maintenance.

Do not be penny wise and pound foolish, Anon.

The eBay junkyard is best one, Anon, also going to LKQ and physically taking a used OEM part off a car similar to yours is just a killer deal.

I don't even know what that is

It stands for "Like kind of Quality" AKA the junkyard, they're all over the country, it's $5 for admission and the charge you based on what you took off a car, it's so much less than the eBay junkyard, but it's a self serve situation, where as eBay, you're paying for a seller yo have taken a part off, inventoried it, packaged and shipped it, etc.

I don't know what Honda put in these early K24A engines, but they're amazing, you could probably have really long oil intervals without even checking it if you cruised at low rpms like a normal person.

>>

>bank 2 knock sensor or some such
>whatever I'll just deal with it when weather is nicer
>weather is nicer and the check engine light goes away and hasn't come back yet after a couple days of hard driving
So did the Japanese machine spirit inside the car fix it or did it just not like the cold weather or what? Not complaining, but my next step was to just replace the sensor as I haven't actually heard a knock or any abnormal motor sounds yet.
>>
>>27550601
V6 eats transmissions every 60k miles, needs an auxiliary transmission cooler because it overheats from the factory. ATF is always burnt on these, never changed.

4cyl is old and weak but not problematic. 7th gen after is a massively better car.

I decided to muck around trying to tame my CG's accord shift flare between 1 and 2. It's been the same for like 2 years and hasn't worsened or gotten better. I just learned to let off the throttle and let it finish the shift to reduce flaring. Everything on the forums implied swapping solenoids was pointless. Well I went to the junkyard, saw this old girl and the word "Reliable" written on the windscreen. Decided that if I was going to pull transmission solenoids off of something it'd better be that one. I pulled shift solenoids B and C from it and put them in my CG Accord.
After some test driving in various conditions I can say the shift flare is pretty much gone. Even with heavy throttle up hills. So yeah if you ever have a funky automatic, pick up some solenoids at the junkyard. They might pass the resistance check and click with the application of 12V, but that doesn't mean they work right.

>>27552149
Forgot to add to the post. Not only the fan motor but it also melted the wiring and the harness. And it also turned out the last owner of the car put a higher amp fuse. So i think i need more than just a new fan. Lucky though the other fan is still good.
>>
>>27552308
That’s fine with me. But would it be an issue in stop and go traffic though?
>>
>>27552316

>better put in a bigger fuse so that I can move more juice than I should
God people are fucking stupid, but at least it's all fixable stuff.
>>
>>27552320
It would absolutely be a problem in traffic on a hot day, because those fans aren't only for your A/C system, your engine will get hot enough at normal operating temp where the fans would kick in momentarily and then shut off.
>>
>>27552322
I have never worked on my car but are you talking about the 2 fans connected to the radiator? Because on my car, only 1 fan runs to cool the engine and the other fan doesn't run at all because it would only turn on when I turn the AC on, which is busted.

pgmfi.org is a good tuning forum. mostly educated folks around there unlike honda-tech and the other forums.
essentially you'll want to hook up an AFR gauge and a good calibrated wideband, disable closed loop, get a friend to drive on an open road while you tell him what to do, and tune your fuel first. get your engine around 14.7:1 under all loads and rpms, including idle. remember that leaner is meaner (as in more power with higher risk), and richer is safer (but slower), keep this in mind when tuning at those higher rpms. You could throw an EGT sensor on if you wanted to tune as lean as safely possible.
After your fuel is tuned, you can mess with the ignition tables. Advance your timing as far as you can go before spark knock occurs, and then back it off a hair. As with the fuel, do this for all loads and rpms until the table has been completed.
I'm sure your tuning software is integrated with the data logging function to help with on the fly tuning. You'll have to read about those features.
After you finish, you can enable closed loop again if you'd like.
This is very basic tuning theory and you probably will want to read about your car and your software. My advice might be outdated since i'm messing with 90's crap.

>>27574060
isnt replacing the springs 90% of the reason for doing struts? springs get soft over time, yeah? couldn't you get coilovers at a similar price point?
>>
>>27574112
Replacing struts is usually done due to the shocks losing effectiveness and getting hoppy wheels, leaking oil out, which eventually makes them ineffective, which happened to me, or a complete siezure of the strut (rare) but Hondas are pretty good about the springs not having issues, my original 17 year o9ld springs were fine, and these used springs with who knows how many miles off a wrecked Accord feel exactly the same as my original ones, they just need to be off a similar car to yours, something like Accord V6 springs on a 4 cylinder is bad, the car will ride stiff and sit way too high in the front.
>>
>>27574112
no, replacing shocks is 90% the reason for doing struts.
I'm pretty sure there's a technical term for fatigue limit, but steel is one of those materials has a fatigue limit where as long as the amount of stress it receives is below a certain amount, it can withstand it indefinitely and no permanent deformation occurs. Springs rarely ever fail compared to shocks and when they do it's usually due to abuse or improper installation.

The "H" in Honda stands for victory!

>>27576735
Based H, even in non racecar form, Hondas are always winning from the fuel pump, to the service center, they will always win.

Hondas always win in the end.

These new bushings really do feel great. Worth the frustration of pulling out the old ones
I can especially feel it shifting into 5th and 6th
These are the original, not in very bad condition. I installed hybrid racing bushings

Looking at buying a Civic coupe. How are the Honda CVTs?
>>
>>27578629
The screwdriver i was using wasn't the best. I had luck using 45° bent long nose pliers getting them out.
The big one wasn't so hard, the smaller one was much harder to remove. I ended up accidentally destroying the stock bushings brass insert and it was easy to remove then

As a daily transmission they're fine. Just keep up with fluid changes and don't brake-torque it.

Why is the Honda Fit so cheap compared to Civics or Accords? I want a commuter to get to work and I can get a 2020 Fit with 10k miles on it for the same price as a 2011 Accord with 110k. What gives?
>>
>>27581292
Fit is smol and a torquelet compared to the size and strength of a Honda Accord made in the last 20 years and 10th gen onward Civics, the Civics and Accords are also a fully independent suspension, where a Fit has a torsion beam in the rear end.

It's probably the only thing worth buying, if I had like 36 grand to wipe my ass with, I'd buy an Accord LX brand new and maintain it until one of us dies, any day.

The markups are what fuck the price up, an LX is technically 31 grand, but my local dealer wants 36 because reasons.

Why is the Honda community so fucking out of it on ecu unlocks and the like? nobody dumped out FOSS tools for tuning or ecu unlocks in the latest gen? Or am I looking in the wrong forums. Hondata this, ktuner that. I wanna fucking cable a laptop with serial adapters, its my goddamn car.
>>

I don't know of any tuning platform that wasn't a pain in the ass. Mustangs required a third party device. Miata's, get a whole new fucking ECU. Honda...well yea, ktuner/hondata.

I was asking about struts for a CRV in here the other day. I replaced them with some KYBs and have been driving on them for a while. They ride great. So thanks :)
I'm thinking I need to change out the front sway bar end links to get rid of a "clunk." Also, it's been throwing a P1009 code. The VTEC solenoid has been replaced recently, but I think I'll have to take a look at the timing chain or VTC.
>>
Something crossed my mind recently and it's that my car doesn't have the VIN on the dashboard (under the windshield). I randomly decided to google it and realized that this is not normal. I never checked it when I first got it, and I only realized when I took it to a shop and they tried reading it but couldn't find it there.

I bought it from a reputable source and I have all the paperwork for it still and it's fully registered and insured. The VIN is on the driver-side door and I ran a carfax before I bought it - everything checks out. I know the VIN is also supposed to be stamped into the firewall but I'm not close to my car to verify it right now (will check it in a few days).

From what I see online, this might be a problem when I decide to sell it since this might trigger suspicion and they'll need to verify it's not a stolen that's been re-vinned. Anyone here ever had this issue? I'm in Canada (ON). 9th gen Civic.

What would cause a k20a2 to have no compression on cylinder 1 and 3?
Owner says it was misfiring often and in limp mode constantly. Then it started having issues idling and staying on.

Is this a warped head?
>>
>>27587380
maybe, there are cheap tests for that. Do it more than once though. Also could be a bent valve or fucked up piston rings.
>>
>>27587475
I plan to scsn with my code reader and run a compression test to get an idea. Im just trying to decide if this engines worth pulling to fix, or if im just gonna buy a replacement and drop it in. The car itself is free, 02 rsx type s
>>
>>27587380
Worn out or broken cylinder rings can cause no compression, as well as broken off chunks of cylinder head valves, knock sensors go bad in K series, it starts pinging like a motherfucker, the owner ignores it with all these crazy metallic noises going on at RPMs, and then it hurts the motor.

considering buying this 2015 civic but i noticed this in the photos. this blue led and it looks like the skid button is on the opposite side of where it usually is. what does this mean?
>>
>>27589341
It means there's an aftermarket alarm installed, it's supposed to blink to let people know that the car will start honking if you break a window or open it with the alarm armed.
>>
>>27589434
how is it armed and disarmed?
>>
>>27589476
Should be a little remote on the keychain, you hit it and the horn goes beep beep and the lights flash, whether or not you get a remote with the car to use the alarm with doesn't matter, if the Civic is good, it's good.
>>
>>27589482
but i can't use it without the remote? in that case would it be easy to just remove?
>>
>>27589505
Unfortunately can't use it without the remote, but any car audio place can professionally rip that shit and it's associated wiring out from under the dashboard, maybe need to find one of those blank plastic pieces to replace the drilled out one with the LED, but it can be removed, but I wouldn't sweat there being an alarm system installed that can't be used mine had one.
