I went into 3rd at 60
>>27608363yeah i do that literally every day
>went 60 in first
>>27608363your car can't do that in second gear? embarassing tbqhwyfamalam
>>27608363Yes, the shift point from 2nd to 3rd is at 60 mph for the average economy car
And? I can go to 97 in 3rd. I often will use it to pass on a two lane.
>>27608388It's a great gear. The best.
>>27608379>>27608388I was overtaking in 4th and went to go to 5th but went into 3rd accidentally. Isn't that bad for the gearbox?
>>27608390Gearbox doesn't really care. The engine does if it went way into the ketchup.
2nd gear ends at 55mph for me so just don't shift into 2nd gear at 60mph and you will be fine probably.
>>27608390you're supposed to drop it to 3rd before accelerating not afterit would slightly wear your synchro, and stress your engine mounts if you drop the clutch and it jolts.it doesn't do anything of note to the engine or gearbox
IN A BIG BOY MERC AND I HOP THE KERBSEE THEM BOYS IN BLUE SO I DROP TO THIRD
>>27608363Yeah mate I get up to 60 in 2nd everytime I do a WOT pull
As long as you're below the redline, there is really no harm.
>>27608390It's not ideal but it's not the end of the world. In concept doing this is fine, but I imagine you did it roughly since you weren't expecting it.But now, you know the car can do it. So once in a while, take your car on the freeway and let it rev for a bit. Sit in 3rd at 60 for a few minutes. I sat at about 70 in 3rd on my motorcycle when I was touring and knew a service station was coming up.Revving your engine out and accelerating smartly is not mechanically abusive. Let the engine sing once in a while.
>>27608389My favorite as well, make the most noise and get the best pulls in it.
>>27608363let me guess60 horsepower too?
>>27608410I let the clutch out slowly halfway because I didn't know if I was in 5th or 3rd (now I do). When I felt the car jerk I immediately pushed the clutch in and went into the correct gear.
OP, are you brand new to manuals or something? I can't imagine why going into 3rd at 60 would ever be a problem. Most cars are good in third from 15 to 80, and if you were overtaking you probably should've gone to third. Shift more, my guy.
>>27608363Okay and? That's how you overtake someone in style
>>27608390No, that's how you drive. Who the fuxk shifts up before accelerating?
>>27608392>into the ketchupStylish. Never heard that.
Every time I approach the red line in 2nd/3rd I think I'm going to delete my timing belt. t. honda driver w/ 95k miles
>oil pressure all over the place>have to change oil every 1000k/milesmeh she still workz
>>27608738just put a new belt on with the pump and tensioner stuff.
>>27608363Really depends on the car. A viper can hit 60 Mph in 1st. Picrel would probably redline if you hit 60 mph in 3rd
