Gearbox doesn't really care. The engine does if it went way into the ketchup.

you're supposed to drop it to 3rd before accelerating not after
it would slightly wear your synchro, and stress your engine mounts if you drop the clutch and it jolts.
it doesn't do anything of note to the engine or gearbox

It's not ideal but it's not the end of the world. In concept doing this is fine, but I imagine you did it roughly since you weren't expecting it.

But now, you know the car can do it. So once in a while, take your car on the freeway and let it rev for a bit. Sit in 3rd at 60 for a few minutes. I sat at about 70 in 3rd on my motorcycle when I was touring and knew a service station was coming up.

Revving your engine out and accelerating smartly is not mechanically abusive. Let the engine sing once in a while.

I let the clutch out slowly halfway because I didn't know if I was in 5th or 3rd (now I do). When I felt the car jerk I immediately pushed the clutch in and went into the correct gear.

OP, are you brand new to manuals or something? I can't imagine why going into 3rd at 60 would ever be a problem. Most cars are good in third from 15 to 80, and if you were overtaking you probably should've gone to third. Shift more, my guy.

Really depends on the car. A viper can hit 60 Mph in 1st. Picrel would probably redline if you hit 60 mph in 3rd
