Hunter S. Thompson mentions the raw american thrill of riding in shorts a couple times. It's probably great until you catch a junebug in the bag. It's been weird wearing jeans in the summer. Normally I wear shorts from april to october but since I ride every day I have to wear them under the leg cages until I get to my destination. Sandals in the saddle bags

Good news, my fork slider finally came. Also I inspected the carbs last night and found that one of the vacuum slides was stuck open. After drilling out the fucking butter-made screws on the carb to reveal the diaphragm, I found this bent spring. It looks like the last guy who rebuilt the carbs (which according to the previous owner, was a reputable shop) they bent this spring upon reassemble, and it was getting bound up. So I carefully fixed it back into a good shape and now the slide goes in and out real nice. I think this is going to fix my "hesitation when chopping the throttle from idle" issue, which is why the previous owner sold the bike. I'm so lucky I noticed this when I did because I was on my way to pulling the carbs out and completely disassembling them and fucking with the idle circuit. The viffer is going to viff again, and perhaps even later today.

If your only intention is city commuting and nothing else then pick the cheapest option. I think the R7 is the best bike for me.

There's only one valve cover, only one valve cover gasket, and the valve cover and spark plugs can generally be accessed without taking anything else off the bike. Having all the cylinders in a row makes it so much easier to fit the carbs into their boots, if applicable. It also makes it so much easier to fit exhaust systems on and off the front because you're only attaching them to one plane. I have a CB650 and a VFR750 and (granted they are 4 cylinders not 2) but still having the cylinders lined up in a row inside one housing makes it so much easier to do basically anything.

Firstly I'll be able to test the clutch and gearbox with the case dry and open? Also how exactly do you tap the gasket unsealed?. The service manual just says tap with a nylon mallet it doesn't say where to tap.

I love my klx 300. It is geared a bit for street so if you buy one and want to trail/enduro just swap the stock 14T for a 13 front sprocket. $20 part that will make a massive improvement off-road.
I put a fuel tuner, large snorkel and pipe on mine but stock they’re absolutely fine.
I’ve crashed it hard a couple times, launched it down a hill, and fell over on dirt too many times to count. It’s indestructible. Unlike a race bike it has sane maintenance intervals.
Highly recommend, should be able to find lots of nearly new ones for $5k

I've had a few Vespas, both the old 2-stroke manuals and the modern 4-stroke CVTs. Unless you are exclusively doing light-to-light city riding there is no reason to choose a scooter over a motorcycle. Motorcycles offer much better value for the money in every instance of the highly specific urban commuter niche. On top of that, the Vespa badge is literally just a lifestyle branding that adds nothing but cost to a modern scooter. Get a fucking Kymco if you legit have a need for a scooter. Your Vespa will cost more without adding utility and will be much more likely to be stolen.

attention all Suzuki niggers.

no but seriously, I love my 08 Ninja. so fucking easy to work on. just did my clutch cover and generator cover gaskets to fix an oil leak that developed last year, and because I was winter-temp IQ I didn't tension the chain enough, but tbf neither did the previous owner, so the sprockets are fuckered beyond acceptable levels.

is it worth asking around at wreckers for sprockets?
>>
>>27771059
ehh, you can test if the plates go in and out but that's about it. The old gasket comes off easily if you are lucky, and you can use a plastic scraper. If it's stuck on you can use a bare utility knife blade, or metal scraper. Just be as careful as you can to push horizontal on the face, not dig into the aluminium.

If it's a stiff gasket that isn't paper you might get lucky and pry it off with a finger nail/plastic and the whole thing will go. When putting it back on the mallet could be useful once you get the cover on the metal dowels, I try and tap it on gently at each dowel and then put the screws on.

I read in the forums that everyone thinks the racetech spring suggester gives suggestions that are on the firm side. It suggested 0.85kg so I went with 0.80kg springs for me being 165lbs. The stock springs are 0.7. I used the stock 5W fork oil and filled them to the level suggested in the Haynes manual which is 177mm.

There were several scooter clubs in town and we used to get together for rides and house parties and bar hopping all the time, and there were annual rallies, some of them pretty big. Metric socket head screws are cheap even at retail hardware stores and are much nicer to deal with on carbs.

It is thanks to retaining the good parts of 1930s design very much including the rebuildable crankshaft (new rod kit means new crankpin etc) which makes the entire engine field-rebuildable with minimal equipment. That's win over any engine requiring crankshaft grinding.

I had the same thing happen on my Duc with those clamps, except it was actually dripping. You don't have to replace the clamp or hose, you use a pair of dykes (90 degrees are the best. Like the special hose clamp tool, but it's just clippers) to pull the crimp tighter. Worked on my Ducati.
But that's barely even a leak, probably would just leave it alone for now, unless it's hard to get to. I know R6 fairings SUCK to pull off.

r6 plug interval is 8k. First time I rode it out to 12k and it started misfiring lol. It snuck up on me since my friends CBR600 interval was like 30k miles. Now I'm at 17k so im going to do it to be nice to my ku. This spark plug interval difference just goes to show everyone that r6 is super special and incredibly powerful since it smokes sparkplugs like that.
>When my buddy had his 2016 R6, I hated helping him do work that required removing the fairings. They made it unnecessarily complicated.
I wouldn't doubt it. Previous gen r6 did look the best so I'm sure you have to pay for that with more hidden fasteners.

Speaking of.
You guys know those big ass cardo stickers you get when buying a set?
I saw a guy (on a gs) who actually put the sticker on his helmet. Just a big ass advert on your head. Holy fucking cringe.

Going to look at one of these today after work, less than 1k miles for $6750, some guy’s wife’s bike. Thoughts? It’ll be my second bike (ninja 250) after over 2 years of not riding, seems to have everything I want and I think it’s gorgeous.
>>
>>27772075
>I think it’s gorgeous.
It'll be fine because of this.
You will have one more cylinder, more than double the displacement, and a refined feel of a bike(triumph things).

Eventually im gonna wrap my vfr800 with ultimate hane bakuon, biker mice from mars, suber cup lady, akira, ghost rider, and plenty other tasteful meme frens for a HOWVE YOUVE BEEN ultimate compilation
Eventually ill grt a custom license plate but rn im divided between SN33D, SNEED, or HYB as far as that goes
Maybe ill forego the wrap and just find a japanese artist lady, FROM JAPAN, who has a crush on me to make the art wrap/airbrush like pic rel
Id do rhe airbrushing if i had the facility and patience for removing everything to get the frame colored too, but sadly thats alot of tedious shit and i dont have a nice garage without dusty bros

yamaha faggot beta trans chud
kawasaki alpha chad predator male

>>
>>27772254
I don't mean this in a bad way, it's just my way of seeing it. It looks like a supersports in every way except the sound. The one that passed me was really loud and sounded like a lawnmower.
This might be a negative for some (most) people but on the other hand it seemed kind of fun and a reflex of modern 2024 living.
It's bratty because it's like a kid trying to be grown up, it's bratty because you don't need fancy engines to have fun (when you are young you have less money and settle for cheaper stuff). Do you understand now?
>>
The only bad thing about the R7 is that it has two cylinders instead of four. This gives it a boring powerband and makes it like an appliance compared to an i4 or v4 bike. But still, it's the best bike you can buy for commuting and general street riding. It's the kind of bike you buy when you need A Motorcycle to take you places fast, or to have fun when you don't care about the character of the bike you're on. And a parallel twin is retardedly easy and cheap to service. It's really the perfect bike for most people who ride on the street.
>>
>>27772278
I don't like modern bikes but I wish the R7 was at least 10 kg lighter (factory) and 5 cm lower
>>
>>27772283
It's very lightweight already

only 188kg

>sv650 sport
omg best bike ever

>r7
le bad

why are they like this?
>>
>>27772301
>why are they like this?
simply because its not the cheapest thing suzuki could build. aluminium frame iirc, dual cylinder heads, 4 camshafts. if it was steel frame, piss twin it would be the same lague as the r7. the r7 is genuinely the cheapest thing yamaha could build and call it a """"""""""new""""""" bike.
>>
>>27772304
But Yamaha has Inverted forks and Brembo master cylinder.
And how about 3rd gen SV, it's even cheaper
>>
>>27772304
Suzuki builds a nice V-twin for an affordable bikes. Yamaha builds the cheapest possible p-twin for more money and calls it a day. I'd choose SV650 every time.
>>
new bread when
>>
>>27772318
>cheapest possible p-twin
you mean the best p-twin? the others are slower
>>
>>27772321
That is the least that's expected of Yamaha, at the minimum, I want them to build a decent bike. It is decent, but its a disappointment to Yamaha's name.
>>
>>27772316

>Vstrom has a hydraulic clutch.

Which go bad from sitting and have nil functional advantages over cable. Cables can sit twenty years and be fine. If you have a cable failure at the bar end there are ways to limp home. If your juice clutch shits the bed you're out of luck.
>>
>>27770796
It wasn't an FXR so meh. You can always find another or buy a wreck cheap and sort it out, easier with HDs than any other bike in the US.
What other bikes do you have remaining?
>>
>>27770951
I'd rather have that Evo Softail anyway and it's obviously very low mileage. Looks like it still has the ignition cover rivets. I prefer my Evo FXRs but the Softy has the classic Shovelhead style frame front section and styling. That's a lifetime motorcycle and Evos were the last classic HD drivetrain.
>>
>>27771103
>is it worth asking around at wreckers for sprockets?

Sprockets and chain should be replaced new as a set when the sprockets are finally done as a worn chain no longer quite matches the tooth pitch of new sprockets due to pin and bushing wear.
>>
>>27771502
What are you really asking? What KIND of project?

They're easy to work on and parts are plentiful. That one's original enough to keep that way.
