Why can't the European car industry come up with a 21st century Version of xars like Renault 4, Citroen 2CV, or Volkswagen Käfer? Simple, no nonsense affordable cars like these are what made them great. Yet nowadays even the cheapest shitboxes have useless crap like media Centers, programmable arse warmers etc that drive up prices and basic models just exist on paper. They keep chasing Dome car dogma about a 35k+ minimum vehiclebthat's chockfull of useless crap that you should ideally buy on subscription and wonder why they keep getting BTFO. How hard do they have to fail before realizing their mistake?
>>28116205Don't make me tap the>"good cars are quite literally illegal to make"sign...
Buy a base spec dacia or skoda
post war yurop was third world tier they barely had enough foodif you want a car like that move to a third world country
>>28116205They have so much bullshit regulations, taxes and unions that makes the Soviet Union look reasonable
Because you are wrongThe Citroen 2CV isn't a shitbox, its a insane piece of suspension engineering, where the core problem is that the French is unable to envision long term support and hardware revisions. The Beetle isn't just a shitbox, its a shitbox intended to have good fuel mileage on the autobahn. Likewise the 4CV from Renault isn't a car, its more of a showcase of importing various WW2 production advances to French manufacture. >And why isn't there more reliable modern shitboxesVAG 1,6TDI existed until we got the gay ass Euro 6 standard and you got particle filter + adblue. You can still buy unrusted pre 2014 vehicles.A lot of the brands are now Stellantis. Also the Renault–Nissan–Mitsubishi Alliance means all of them is partially getting cucked by the worse tendencies of their counterparts.
>>28116341Remember when renault engines still came with wet liners?
>>28116205New R4 and 5 are on Renaults to do list. Don't expect tin cans with no safety gear because America insists on the tons of crap cars have to have these days.
>>28116205It needs to fulfill so many occupant and pedestrian crash safety norms and have such an elongated list of equipment (airbags, ABS, ESP, backup camera, emergency call system, traffic sign recognition, auto-braking etc.) that by the time it's barely road-legal it's already expensive and complicated. Now of course it could be left bare-naked like that, but using the necessary hardware it doesn't cost much to add some creature comforts (i.e. make the screen you can't avoid double as infotainment system). Many customers will demand basic comfort systems, so the manufacturer has to offer them. Now, for a cheaper version to be worth it, a substential quantitiy would have to be built. If you spend an extra 10k on tooling to make a more basic version (10k is NOTHING in tooling!) you need to sell a lot of cars like that to make it worth it. If that saves you 20€ for some feature you don't have to put in and you can make the car 15€ cheaper because of it, will enough people take this option? Probably not.Again, you need to have the really expensive parts whether you like it or not. Add 200€ worth of equipment and you can make the best out of those cameras, screens etc. that you cannot avoid. Developing and producing a bare-naked version is going to incur a lot of initial cost that's doubtful to ever pay off.Since the car's going to be painfully expensive anyways, might as well make it worth it where little extra efford is needed.
>>28116378This is the main reasonAccording to Kia these mandatory features (which also include fatigue detection btw) amount about 7k € of the 17k you pay for a Picanto.
>>28116378>>28116391Meanwhile Tesla is making the big bux by offering Shitbox and Shitbox+ as their only varieties of the same car. 2WD gets a more basic stereo.4WD gets the premium package. And picking Sport/Performance generally gets you a worse car that is identical to the other 4WD option.OEM feature level is also often a meme, because the stock version might not be drivable north of Italy/Texas/Okinawa due winter and too small heaters. Or there would be no point in picking a exploding auto tranny for the cheapest vehicle.
>>28116205The corrupt fucking krauts that run BMW, Mercedes, and VAG got the corrupt fucking krauts that run the EU to write laws that favor big and expensive cars and penalize makers of small and inexpensive cars. You can read about it in the context of emissions in exhaustive detail here: https://www.etui.org/sites/default/files/2022-11/Heavier%2C%20faster%20and%20less%20affordable%20cars-The%20consequence%20of%20EU%20regulations%20for%20car%20emissions-2022.pdfIf you think the fucking krauts who created this situation will realize their mistakes, you've never met a fucking kraut.
>>28116480I was refering to mandatory safety equipment, retard-kunBackup camera, emergency call system, traffic sign recognition, auto-braking, lane departure warning, fatigue detection and so on is what adds 7k to a 10k car and makes subcompacts an extinct speciesHas nothing to do with trims or Tesla
>>28116248/thread
>>28116205because people DO NOT WANT THEM WHEN THE FUCK ARE YOU GONNA UNDERSTAND THIS /O/ nowadays anyone broke enough for these cars buys used and new car buyers want status, and the few econoboxes still left guess what NOBODY BUYS THEMOr why else do you think this is happening?do you think car companies just hate money?
>>28116568Nothing is stopping you from buying a subpar NCAP rated car anon. You can literally go to the Nissan dealership and sign up for a manual Verso almost without aids. But you won't do that anon, because you too like the idea of walking out of a fatal crash in 60mph completely unharmed. Or avoiding fender benders in the parking lot.Even if they separate out crash vs avoidance for rating, people will buy the high star rated ones in both categories. >I was refering to mandatory safety equipmentTskI live in a region where you won't actually see bottom tier equip list cars. Why? Because tunnels means AC recirculation is mandatory, winter means the cheapest radiator setup is a death trapManufacturers make a lot of money by trying to sell it at a sticker price that isn't possible, and then having people buy whatever roll off the factory line once they get to their local importer.
>>28117571>starting at $17,190
>>28117580Yes, and? $17k compared to... when?Your error is obvious: You are comparing cars at 12-13k mark... which are now worth 17k from inflation.
>>28116205Fiat Panda
>>2811827990 quid a month to be mobile in a warrantied Euro 6 5 door car. For someone young that can't insure a more fun car...
>>28118308OP asked, I answered.
I lately drove a suzuki ignis.what a cool little box.boarding, comfort and view are all brilliant.
>>28116205German lobbying basically. They banned cheap shitboxes single handedly because they don't sell any.
>>28116205Because most people who have like 10k euros to spends on a car would rather buy a nice car that is 5-10 years than a new shitbox.
>>28118327In that category they're god tier.
>>28119183This and nothing else.
>>28119183>>28120109next step: they will start desperate attempts to build affordable cars, fuck up the pricing at the end and then cry us a river that they need subsidies.
>>28119183Remember the shitboxes BMW turned out because they wanted a car like this.
