Say something nice about the official /o/ engine!

Id KMS if I popped the hood and saw this fisher price tier bullshit
>>
>>28117548
anything made by bmw past around 1995-2005 is a high maitenance money pit for badvewhores with more money than common sense.
>b-but muh tunability
that thing has a shitload of problems at stock power levels, do you seriously expect it to last after you up the boost?
>>
>>28117548
I tip my hat to BMW for taking the torch of "powerful German engine that's actually decent and doesn't fall to pieces like everything else they make" from the 3.0 TFSI. When I'm looking for a new car in however-many years, I'll be taking a strong look at these, even though bimmers aren't really my thing.
>>

it’s arguably the most reliable engine if you maintain it properly, dingus
>>
>>28117563
That's basically every engine made, not just BMW.
I don't think there's a single "modern" engine that isn't a pile of shit where the pencil pushers cut corners as much as possible.

>>

>the most reliable engine if you maintain it properly
That's fucking terrible. The Honda GX in our Cement Mixer is 10 years old and has had *maybe* 2 oil changes over it's life, and it still run like a champ. Any engine is reliable when taken care of, a truly reliable engine is one that works in the face of abuse.
>>
>>28117629
are you retarded?
>>
>>28117629
is this nigger comparing an econobox engine to a performance engine?
>>
>>28117598
Just the tip.
Also you're wrong. Trannies don't have the self-awareness to cover their bald spots with hats.
>>
>>28117639
The B58 isn't bad enough to be called an "econobox" engine, but I agree it's not quite as good as the GX.
>>
So /o/ is filled with big nosed monobrow turkroachs?

A small displacement engine on a fuckload of boost will never be reliable. You never see that in the commercial world where reliability is key.
>>
>>28117964
You see that all the time with diesels actually. Often these newer gas turbo engines are built very similar to diesels.
>>
>>28117695
>big nose
Big nose means big hose son
>>
>>28117978
Diesels have cast iron blocks and are heavily overbuilt to handle the extreme diesel compression. That's a little different than stuffing a bunch of boost into a lightweight cast aluminum block and then adding even more boost.
>>
>>28117554
FPBP
>>
>>28117964
semi trucks run 40psi of boost
>>
>>28117986
How often does the block actually split on a boosted gas engine? The failure mode is usually the bottom end bearings ( sized too small for fuel efficiency reasons), or some ancilliary part such as injectors. Not the rotating assembly.
>>
Still waiting for the p/o/or to cite the 'high b58 failure rates' and their massive weak points.

got to keep up with routine maintenance, such as.. Replacing the chain guides, vanos seals, injectors, coil packs, oil pump, water pump, main bearings, misc gaskets, reboring and re coating the cylinders.

B58 and B57 (diesel version) use the same blocks. The bigger problem imo is the VANOS and timing chain behind against the firewall, but that's a problem at 150-200,000 miles. The worst I've seen high mileage cars get is clogged PCVs and turbo failures at 100,000+ miles.

Legitimately one of the best engines for tuning that exists if you're not chasing "muh 2000 horsepower" that every Tiktok influencer is begging you to believe is necessary to have fun.

>>28117563
What problems does the B58 have at stock power levels? There's a lot of guys making 700+ horsepower on stock internals for >10K miles without any issues.

The "all BMW engines are money pits" meme is also overblown. There were a few horrible engines they made in the late 2000's to early 2010's, but the B58 is far from unreliable. Toyota wouldn't have selected it for the MK5 Supra if it was as bad as cranky people on the internet want you to believe.
>>
>>28118621
Honestly everything with a N deserves its reputation other than the N52 and final run N55s (think what's in the M2)

What's with all the mutts coping? Do they realize why BMWs are known as the ultimate driving machine?

They seem to be proving to be reliable as some of the higher mileage cars are starting to show up. If they can deal with 200k+ miles of people romping on it in sport+ and deferring maintenance it can't be that bad of a motor for the performance and even efficiency you get out of it.
>>

isn't the former because they look expensive and also have a lot of gadgets and gizmos the yuros back home don't get as extra failure points, while the latter is because yuro streets are often very narrow and parking is a real bitch?
