Explain to me why someone would pick manual over automatic, without using an argument that could be applied to hand cranked engine starters.
Control. You'll never have the precision control of a manual with an automatic. I do a lot of work in low traction areas and absolute control is critical. Doesn't help new engines are powerful AF.
Not shifting like absolute shit when something breaks. Still shifting nicely at all after hitting 200k. Holding gears longer to stay out of no-no zones for the engine (lugging at low RPMs when cold piston slap). Getting +5mpg hwy over the equally priced 4spd automatic. Impressing dates with your ungodly smooth driving. Never touching your brakes because precise engine braking. Going VROOOM to impress dumb kids and initiate street races. Victory burnouts. Teaching all your friends to drive manual. Manual swapping automatics and selling them to your buddies. Bump starts. Burning the old-ass clutch trying to race a motorcycle from a red light. Oversteering into a tree. Keeping the shift knob from your wrecked car. Driving drunk and grinding all the synchros into a fine powder.automatics have no soul

>>28117813Less shit to go wrong, easy to fix when it does. Robust, lighter, smaller, better control over the engine, ability to hill start, and clutch kicks for easy sliding. Can rebuild in half the time and have less drivetrain losses.

>>28117893Yeah M22. Love these things, such a great transmission.

My main reason is control downhills. We have a lot of steep as fuck roads where 1st in even truck automatics arent low enough. A manual always has significanly more engine braking than an auto. Then you have those that like to upshift as soon as you ease off the gas so you have to go tell it to downshift again.

>>28117813>"automatic">still have to chose between D and R
>>28117882this is the actual reason. any modern auto (i.e. not a 90s slushbox) will still have a manual mode to let you properly select gears. they may auto up or downshift on you when the engine is cold or to prevent excessive lugging, but that's entirely model dependant. "people" who argue that control is the real reason have either never had to repair a transmission component, have never driven an automatic made in this century, or both
>>28117813I like being able to do all the work myself, being able to choose shift points. I don't mind automatics but much prefer manual.
