It's time for us to realize how wrong we were to judge this honest to goodness 4x4. It did nothing but provide a more practical alternative to the Wrangler.
>>28118687Weren't both the 3.7L V6 and the transmission they were attached to both piles of dogshit though?
>>28118687The late models are fuck-ugly. The earlier rounder ones are adorable.
>>28118695The 3.7 was average, but the 4 speed was outdated—not that the Wrangler was any better. Its automatic transmission was also a 4 speed until 2012.
>>28118687My wife had the prior gen. I always scoffed at it when we got married. That said, even tho the fucking thing was rotting out, it had 250k miles and was fantastic in the snow (we r in New England). After our first rough winter and driving it, I had new respect for it. It burned oil like a fucker tho. And everything about the interior sucked.
What was the point of this? Slightly more comfortable Wrangler, but slightly more off road Grand Cherokee?
>>28118758There was no point. This is why Chrysler went bankrupt the first time and sold.
I worked at a Chrysler dealership around the time the 2nd gen’s were out. The oil filter is an absolute bitch to get to. The Nitro’s filter, which shares the same platform, was somehow worse. They are basic cars that are no frills and thrills, but are pretty capable off road. I haven’t seen much go wrong with them but normal wear and tear.My mom had one for about 8 years. It pretty much needed just basic maintenance. Her HVAC doors melted shut from the heat (I guess that’s a common problem with all 2nd gens). The front wheel bearings failed at 100k and the water pump failed at 120k, but that was about it.
>>28118758Idk, I think it's cool. I was just being silly in the title.
>>28118687>posting this era Jeep and praising itYeah nah, these things are fucking shit.
If you did over 70 in one of these every single interior panel would start rattling loudly.
