And yes it’s worth it, spending money on your hobbies is the most rewarding way to spend your money- as long as you’re taking care of your bills and retirement, and you have 6months quick cash for emergencies, etc… all stocked. But it’s 2024 so no one should be having money problems. I think it’s fine to spend money on the things you love to do. The same argument could be said about hunting and all the specialty gear needed for that . You can spend $400 or $4000 and the $4000 option is a lot better.

I have a 50 dollar titanium shovel. It's light. It doesn't rust. it works. It doesn't dig into your hand. Meanwhile the 10 dollar one from walmart weights 5x as much and is useless from rust after a year. Buy wisely and you only have to buy once.

It depends on how much you get Out
If you get out a lot then, yes, is worth it because (with research) the money can get you more comfort, lighter weights and easier set ups. It's a lot more fun if you are comfortable and can hike further easier with lighter weight.
If you just larp about going out and then drive to (insert major tourist destination here) so you can car camp or do a days worth of trails then it is not worth it.

It’s not even about quality, though obviously something made in the US will have better QC and customer service than rando Amazon Chinkshit. The Dutchware hammock isn’t just a 290cm rectangular piece of unknown fabric with two sewn channels on either end.

I specifically use Hexon 1.2 for a reason. I used 1.1 for a while but switched to something a little less stretchy. I’ve also tried 1.6 and found it a little too hefty for purpose. Plus I’m not an enormous fatass who needs hammock that can handle 250lbs ir whatever. I made a typical 1.9 generic ripstop for my wife because we often use it together on day hikes and thicker nylon is easier to work with. I’ve even tried a Poly-D (from when Dutchware first started selling hammocks maybe 10 years ago). It was a little too slick and plastic feeling.

Lots of other reasons not to buy some random shit from Amazon, but that’s a big one.
