So many people take their dogs out to hike with yet nobody ever takes their cat with them. What gives? Cats are natural outdoor predators. It makes sense for people to take them with them.

same reason why don't they take their gerbils, guinea pigs, and cockatoos
>>
I know a guy who takes his cat camping, he owns a piece of woodland, that the cat has gotten used to, so he isn't worried about letting her scoot off in the night, but she never has, when they are camping they are always beside each other, sent me a video once of him hiking along, and then, bam, here comes the cat running over fallen trees like its nothing
And, unironically the cat is afraid of small rodents and birds, I think her name is Fiona if I remember correctly, he refers to her as his cat food powered sleeping bag heater

Cats don't like walking long distances.
That's why when you see people adventure catting they typically are carrying the cat. That and they are small enough to be a good snack for pretty much any kind of predator if they go wandering around. They also tend to go wander off into the woods unattended while dogs will typically stick with you.

Aight that's cute

My cat was similiar. She walked on a leash but occasionally wanted to be carried. Couldnt just let her roam, it wad in heavy turkey vulture country. Every once in a while one would pass over just right and project its shadow down. She'd look up most times and trot right over to my legs. Smart cat.

I wish I could take my cat camping and hiking. He's too scared of everything, especially noises.

When I was a kid my our cat would follow me to and back from school every day. Very cute. Miss that little fella. It was very good friends with our neighbours big german shepard, was very cute to see them play together in the yard

The average cat is not at all similar to the average dog. They are much harder to train, and for many it is simply impossible. Dogs will follow you around loyally just on instinct, and almost all of them can be readily trained commands. They're also much less afraid than cats are. All this is because they are naturally pack hunters, whereas cats operate solo.

Cats (housecats) hunt solo. If you take them outside, they run of the moment they spot prey.
Dogs hunt in packs, and will follow the alpha until he gives the order to attack.
You could probably hike with a lion (they also hunt in packs), but who keeps alion as a pet?

Threadly reminder Domestic Dogs and Housecats are not native to north america and have no business in the woods where they bring in invasive plant species in their fur and attract preditors.

Pet owners are cancer. These are the same retards that move to the forest and cut all the trees down for muh view.

Cats have a wide range of personalities and temperments and it's hard to know how well your cat will take to travel. Cats are very territorial and they prefer to stay on their "turf", which is their owner's house. Some cats hate being on leashes, and while a dog can be trained not to run too far when it's off leash, cats are a lot less predictable and could easily get lost. There's also the fact that they do not have the stamina for long distance walking and they need much more sleep and rest than a human.

I have seen people take cats hiking on nature trails but they are usually in backpacks like this one. And again, whether or not your cat tolerates that sort of thing is going to come down to its personality. My cats absolutely hated being put into crates but that may partially be because it almost always meant they were going to the vet's office, and they hated car rides too. Some cats are fine being carried around in a bag but others will be having none of it.

Yeah domestic animals aren’t native anywhere, and you aren’t either
Great observation retard, bet you felt real smart

Lots of people talking a lotta bill shit, but this is the most correct answer. I was homeless for a bit, picked up a homeless cat so we could be homeless together and we were in the woods all the damn time.

Unlike what most people are claiming, cars are as easy to train as dogs are. People just don't. In just a couple days I taught that dude to ride on top of my backpack.

I did worry about all the animals that could of fucked him up in a fight if not just eat him for dinner. Thankfully nothing ever happened and he's still chilling with me. Neither of us homeless.
