Emergency radio reccomendations?I've read that the Eton Odyssey is good, although it seems to be almost unavailable in Europe, and it goes for x3 the price as in the US.Any good alternatives?I care about:>Compact and lightweight>Resistant and waterproof>Rechargeable battery + AAAs + Solar + Crank>USB for charging phone>3.5mm jack for headphones>Flashlight with SOS morse, and SOS siren too
>>2811048Just buy a fucking Satellite gps
>>2811052Not interested in being tracked. Just need a radio.
>>2811054Oh, its this schizo againJust get any cheap to mid range AM/FM radio then... not that hard
>>2811059>this schizo again?
>>2811061The >need a radio, refuses to give specs or use case, but is worried about "tracking" guy
>>2811054good news for you then, gps receivers are not trackable and emergency locator beacons do not transmit anything until you tell it to.
>>2811072As far as you know. Do you really trust that?
>>2811074>As far as you know. Do you really trust that?Do you trust your lightswitches at your house to turn on/off?
OP here, I'm not the other schizo posterI'm a different kind of schizo: I want to emergency prep a little bit.I don't plan on going innawoods and dying there, but rather stay home and try to survive until I die here isntead. A radio could be useful to follow the news in case of power supply issues, and it could also serve as a powerbank, etc
>>2811054>Not interested in being tracked>but i'll gladly broadcast radiowaves that can be used to triangulate my location (which the FCC does quite well when people broadcast on protected bands)
>>2811098OP here, I'm not broadcasting but listening.
>>2811107Why would you need to listen? Are you one of those muppets that go to parks and blast rap music? lmao fuck off
>>2811048>Crank>plastic>will break after 5 usesWhy the fuck is this shit made so cheaply?
>>2811048I have a different one of these Eton radios and wouldn't recommend them; it takes an ungodly amount of cranking to charge it all the way up and after a few years now the ni-mh battery pack in it doesn't work at all. You would be better off with one or two decent solar panels and a few of the small stick sized battery banks to charge with them. Find a radio that can be powered by usb and maybe get a few of these led lights to plug into the battery banks as well.https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256807138581591.htmlCrank charging sounds like a perfect thing to have in an emergency but they're just too cheap to be reliable so I would pass on them.
>>2811535this. crank radios were cool 20 years ago when that was your best option and things weren't made quite as cheap and shitty. a usb power bank and a couple small solar panels can cover all your small low power device needs
>>2811127>big storm rolls in>power goes out>try to check weather on phone>no service, tower's down too>fuck it, this shit'll blow over, right?>what's that rumbling in the distance?>probably just a freight train retard>go jack off in the dark>tornado hits, die with your dick in your handam/fm + weather band is cheap as hell
>>2811074you don't have to trust anything, you can test it yourself with commercial off the shelf products
>>2811048>Emergency radio reccomendations?Cheap chinese ones have a removable 18650 battery in them. No AAA batteries, not waterproof, but they're like 15 USD.The ONLY reason I don't like mine is there's something in the electronics' design that gradually saps power. They don't stay powered very long, I refuse to believe that a good quality 3400 mAh 18650 from a quality manufacturer only lasts for about three weeks when normally listening to radio. I have a Sony radio that takes two AAA and literally stays powered for several months when used in a similar fashion.
>>2811048I've seen a number of those "emergency radios", mostly from the prepper crowd, and to put it plainly, they all suck. None of them are designed to receive stations from further than a few km away. In fact, I've yet to see one that could even receive the any frequencies other than the 89-102 MHz band.If you want an actual recommendation, rather than shill your specific crappy product, I'd say forget about meme shit like "SOS flashlights". You can remember ...---..., right? just flick the switch yourself, on whatever flashlight you have. Also forget about "waterproof" features. You need enough protection against water that some fog or rain won't destroy the device, but you aren't going to go diving with it.Instead, get a used portable world receiver. Sure, they don't have leSurvivalCrank(TM),or even solar in most cases, but you stick two or four AAA batteries in there and you're good for a few years. And you've probably got a small stash of spare batteries anyways, right?btw, those "USB phone chargers" are a retarded idea, too. A pocket-sized solar cell won't even produce enough electricity to keep a standard android phone going. Same with the crank. Best they can do is charge your phone a few % after having the entire day to fill.tl;dr: Don't fall for the survival memes. Just about everything marketed towards preppers is third-tier garbage, because companies know full well that it's most likely going to sit in storage until the warranty has long expired.
