Will going /out/ cure my depression?
>>
Short answer: Yes.

Long answer: Yes, but you have to give it time and do it consistently. Fix your diet too - focus on protein and avoid processed food.
>>
>>2831587
>cure my depression?
there is no cure. it's always there
>>
True clinical depression is very hard to heal. Going out might help so why not give it a try. Exercise does help your mental state you probably will scoff at this but you know deep in your heart it's true. Seeing beautiful things can help, sometimes I come back from a hike smiling like an idiot. And probably the most important thing is setting goals and achieving them. It's gonna hurt the first time you hike 10 miles straight. But it just might convince you to set a goal to be able to hike 13 miles straight. And that's achievable. It's just walking bro.
>>
>>2831587
It can at least give you a break from it. Depends on the kind of /out/ though, the more focused you have to be the less headspace you'll have to be depressed, so things like mountain biking, skiing/snowboarding, motorcycle riding, etc. are especially effective.
>>
>>2831587
Temporarily for sure. I feel like cleanse during a trip and sometimes a bit after. But you always come back to baseline.
>>
>>2831622
This. you'll be free for the duration of your hike, but as soon as you return you'll feel the same (sooner or later)
you'll never be set free from modernity
>>
>>2831587
truke: only temporarily and you need to keep changing locations (so the landscape is completely different, not just another peak in the same mountain range)

The problem with people like you is what you're doing is currnerly making you depressed.
A lot of people from boards that dont require you to have a life come to IRL hobbyist boards like /out/, /p/ or /lit/, even /xs/ thinking it's gonna make their life better not realizing their approach and mindset is what's making them depressed. If you get into a new hobby with the same mindset you're gonna find yourself pissed off and depressed still and then you're gonna go around telling people it's dumb and doesnt work.
So no, going outside wont fix your depression if the reason your depressed is because you're so horrible at balancing your life that you wanna escape into the woods to fix it.
you're just going to have the same problems but outside
>>
>>2831674
going outside isnt like video games or anime
there is a decent amount you should learn before you even do it and you need to be aware of how expensice it can get and what options you have for outdoorsmanship

it's like people on /r9k/ that think losing their virginity is gonna make their life better.

I find long hicking by myself experiences that have powerfull mind shaping hability. I used to do a lot of acid and after stoping, i find lone hicking a more sophisticated experience but with similar efects. Its about the time you get to be alone that reorganice your head and get new perspectives over the things that are bothering you
>>
>>2831587

It might, but you might also feel like Adam in paradise, blessed but lonely.
>>
>>2831727
For me it was the other way around. Getting into the outdoors lifted my depression and motivated me to become a high-performing outdoor athlete which increased my overall confidence. All of a sudden I was attractive to women like never before. Being /fit/ enough for regular sex was just the cherry on top.
>>
Yes. Spending all day every day in civilization or the internet (which is even worse) will trap you into thinking that humans are the center of the universe and our problems are all so catastrophic and insurmountable. Then you go out into nature and see mountains older than the human species, oceans that go deeper than the tallest mountains, deserts that seem to go on forever, ancient forests that you can hike through for days without seeing the sky even once... This shit really puts you in place and reminds you how insignificant all your worries are at the end of the day. Sorry if that doesn't make much sense, Johann Hari wrote a whole chapter about this topic in his book "Lost Connections", I recommend reading that.

Bonus: ADHD is only really a "mental illness" if you try to function in a modern work setting. In nature, it's completely inconsequential.
>>
>>2831815
ADHD isn't an illness. It's just stupid people who get prescribed legal meth.

going out more helped me to deal with depression and made me the best friends i have ever had. I've even met a girl who likes my outdoorsyness.
>>
So, are you going to look for something on the street? Happiness, for example? I thought so too, but it didn't really help, it just cleared my head. Everyone here who talks about outdoor sports is great, of course, but it seems to me that this is not quite suitable for most people. You can go to some events, to libraries

This is the real answer. It took me years to get a grip on this, but I ended up making /out/ my life and was able to get a grip on my depression. It's a long process.

Unless you never go back. It never was about temporarily escaping your depression, it was about finding a happy life.

In my mind, I had this idea for a long time, going with my backpack and never returning, hoping that I would find a warm place to stay, like a bird seeking the spring. But I never had enough will to do so, staying in this depressing winter.
>>
>>2831674
>The problem with people like you is what you're doing is currnerly making you depressed.
This is the truth. Most people don't realize that depression and anxiety aren't real conditions, they're symptoms. If you're experiencing these things, you're subconscious mind is trying to tell you that there's something deeply wrong with the way you're currently living and you need to make changes. Quit trying to force yourself into a box you don't fit into and find what gives you peace and happiness. Thamightean getting out of the rat-race and learning to be content with less, or stop pursuing things that don't make you happy just because that's what others seem to want. And for God's sake get off of social media if you still use it. Comparison is the thief of joy and nostalgia is a trap.

You know exactly what you need to do but you always lose the battle against your body when it floods you with a negative feeling as soon as it's time to rewire your broken reward system and put on your shoes for a walk, resist the urge to eat trash, keep your dick in your pants when you have tits on screen or learn someting instead of doing the unhealthy but easy activity that gives you (too much) dopamine.

It will take time, but your brain will learn to enjoy your new activities and accept them was way to feel joy.
>>
>go outside
>still stay inside your own head
>>
fresh air and exercise are medicine. Get up early, eat at fixed hours, walk for at least an hour every day.
>>
>>2832952
>go outside
>finally be alone in a peaceful, quiet place
>deal with negative thoughts and work them out instead of pushing them away with constant distractions
>>
>>2831587
Only if you live next to really good /out/. Otherwise you'll have a blast during trips, come home and realize life sucks again until the next big trip or weekend warrior.

If you're a NEET and have a "money source" then it's doable since you can just travel constantly, but if you got a day job it's going to suck unless there's good places within 1h of your house. In summer you can get away with further distances, but once winter comes and night rolls in by 6pm it sucks dick if you can't walk out and get into a good /out/ within 5-30m
>>
>>2832988
>end the hike by an heroing
>>
>>2832859
the key to getting out of the rat-race is to

>not participate in the rat race as much as you can.
>do not think about the rat race
>get a decent paying job that you're good at to a point where it doesnt feel lik you're working and hold it for as long as possible
>save your money for your own property wether it's as small at 12 acres or as big as 50 so that way you can camp and hike as much as you want.
the reason i say all this is because the more you ACTUALLY TRY to get out of the rat race the deeper you go into it. It's paradoxical similar to the entry-level expereince paradox. The more you try to get a job the more jobs that pop up as entry level that require 10 years of expereince and wont hire you even though you're entry level and need the experience so now you cant get an entry level job because you need experience for a job that is supposed to provide said experience. It's a similar concept for the rat race. The more you actively try to leave the deeper you go to get better pay to buy items you want/need or to save money to get out of it.
You're better off stopping at the start before you blink and turn 65
>>
>>2831627
Do you have to be white to achieve this look and lifestyle?
>>
>>2833364
No, not at all.
>>
>>2831587
No. It will not go away. You're at a stage where you came to terms and you're calling it what it is. That's good to know, people now can roughly locate you on that arc.
It will not go away. You will never be the same again. The pain may go away for the most part. You'll learn to live in a new way. But you wont be cured and you wont ever be the same again. Nothing can change that.
Daily routine for example can mask things. But masking things and improving your life is the most you can expect.
>>
Healthcare provider who works in mental health here.

No one has any clue what the exact cause of your depression is, nor will anyone be able to guarantee what will work for you. Humans are extremely complex, both psychologically and physiologically. Then you add in all the different life experiences, like social and environmental influences, and there could be millions of different things happening.

Pretty much the recommended order of things is

>Get off your ass and go outside
>Go to a doctor and get your labs checked out, thyroid, hormones, vitamin D, etc
>If you are drinking or getting high every day, cut that shit out
>Go hit the gym and really put in a strong effort
>Clean up your diet
>Start a project where you are learning or building something, find a purpose that is more than jacking off to hentai with your waifu pillow
>Go to therapy
>Medication with SSRI or SNRIs
>Explore other antidepressants or different medications that have been shown to help with depression.
>Ketamine infusions or TSM
>ECT
>if at this point you are still struggling, sign yourself up for whatever experimental treatments you can.

Master's in nursing for an NP with prescriptive authority. Just a little less than a decade's worth of experience as an RN prior to that.

So less training than a psychiatrist, but more than the average person. Plus state credentialing and all that bullshit.

Like Icarus, you flew too close to the sun.

I did crossfit for a bit, but after a few injuries and a previous back injury (work related), I take it easy. At home, I do kettlebells and bodyweight work mixed with cardio (stationary bike or jogging locally). It won't get me swole, but I'm in better shape than most of my coworkers, so I'm content with that.
>>
>>2834988
Yeah I have no healthcare because shitty europoor. It's fucked now. First I developed really bad back pain for months on end, that drowned everything else out. The pain got better. Now my back pops, clicks or crunches in the most god awful way. Not like crepitation. Like where you can not repeat it arbitarily and have to reset it first. Nah it just grinds and it causes not only a sound and sensation it does even shake when it pops or sticks and unsticks. One leg feels longer than the other, something with the hips or pelvis is fucked, there's also a weirs kind of rotation in one leg. And weird ass cluster of pain popping up here abd there in the general area.

Damn, I thought most of Europe at least had nationalized free health care? Hell, even in the US, if you are really poor, you can get free healthcare through Medicaid.

Sorry man, hope you can find a way to get it checked out.
>>
>>2831675
>going outside
What does this even mean? Does walking 10 mins outside counts as 'going outside'?
>>
>>2834993
It's funny. Grass on the other side is always greener, isn't it? It's living hell here. I wish I was a US american and I am not shy to admit it.
>nationalized free health care
Long story short: Yes.
A bit longer: You are obliged to have health insurance. If you do not an insurer can legally come up with a fictitious contract between you and them. Since this system dominates the market it erodes services when it performs badly. Everyone gets to see the foctor, 'for free', but only after waiting for a year and the doctor will not ever help you. Why would they, there's a list that says how much they get paid. Doesn't matter if they dk something or tell you youre fine / sleep it off / idk what it is but theres nothing you can do about whatever it might be.
Long story long:
>be me, self employed, private insurance, all is fine, coverage is okay, doctors are motivated
>they have this idea I cant have a private insurance I must move into the public system because technicalities
>pay for more for insurance than before but doctors get less and motivation is as you expect
>so basically end up paying everything out of pocket while paying for the mandatory meme insurance
>take up job (no more own company)
>employer now pays my insurance
>quit job
>letter from insurance 'WHERE MONEY??? GIB! '
Im pretty upset at this point. Just leave me alone I was happy before they started all this shit
>on phone with insurance phone lady
>no job, no income
>THEN WHY THE FUCK ARENT YOU ON BENEFITS (they automatically pay everything, health, pension fund, rent, utility and cash - its crazy)
>not a commie maam
>well we will have to charge you
>no income, how to pay
>NOT MY PROBLEM get on benefits already
>letter
>Insurance goes by some fiction where I make 1250€/mo (actually 0) and charge me based on that
>they send collectors
mfw
Honestly
they flood the country with you know whom, get them on benefits (yes they even advertise in target languages how easy it is to migrate (...)
>>
>>2835047
(...) and get on the benefits and that it also covers health). They expect you to work for that, pay for that, pay for a meme insurance which, while it technically pays for your visit to the doctor, erodes service to where you don't get treatment, even if you make fuck all they want you to pay so they can import more of them. It is one crazy joke driven by boomers who only care about their pensions and the value of their real estate so they do this, knowing they are alienating the few who would actually have done their best, in hopes that somehow, magically, in a few years, they will just turn the table as if the benefits was the bait and now they will all have to take up work, pay towards their pensions and pay their rent or real estate fantasy prices.
The boomers illusion of omnipotence knows no limits. It'll be funny when they will be confronted with the reality that they have no way trumping a new majority that has no sympathy for them.
>>
>>2835048
Check it. If you're a young man, at least literate and of working age with your sweetheart at your side you might aswell just apply for 'citizens benefit for people from abroad'

sorry for >>>/pol/ your board. I'm just a bit stuck here and want to leave but it's even hard to leave if they just send collectors after you. It's a joke you know. Btw when you're an illegal you can aplly for money for a journey home. I can't get momey for a journey to a better place. Quite the opposite. They send collectors after you, take up a job to earn the money you need to get a foothold somewhere else and they will take it. There's no way out of commierope, unless you bend the knee and hop on the benefits like a commie.
>>
>>2835047

same anon from before

Sucks you had to go through that. If I were you, I'd just get on benefits and try to save what you can to get out eventually. I understand not wanting to go on, but think about it as getting a return on all those taxes you paid before. In the past, I was on state Medicaid (.gov health insurance) for around a year, but now I pay about $15k+ income tax and a few more grand on sales taxes. So I don't feel guilty over it.

Hope your situation turns around dude
>>
>>2835152
Thanks for the kind words. I'm pretty determined to get out some way. USA would be great but there's plenty of places that will do. I hate to crush your dreams here, anon, but this is pretty fucking close to what America is doing right now.
>>
>>2835223
Ah yes that thing. I must again apologize for >>>/pol/ on your board.
I see two associated problems here. First:
>"If you don't like it here then leave"
Let us ignore questions regarding the general morality of such statement but for the sake of discussion discuss:
>leave where ?
In a world wheren the grass on the other side seems always greener and everyone want's to have some of which they have elsewhere, ultimately making every place the same as somewhere else (well unless you just leave people alone for a change).
Two of those abstract things on the othetr side of the fence:
Multicultural immigrant society and strong universal wellfare states.
Those things are mutually exclusive for reasons I will briefly get into later.
Ironically, it is the same "you can always leave" types, who instead of leaving want to make those changes. So in the US, where there is historically a strong sense of individualism, some types peer over to europe and go "that strong social security, I want that here too" while at the same time some europoor peers over to the US, which historically had a multicultural society and is like "that immigrant society, I want that here too".
Both are missing two things:
>you can always leave
literally one of their own goto arguments.
And the other thing is that they have something the other guy doesn't and the differences exist because thw things in question are mutually exclusive.
You can have wellfare, but people will only go along as long as there is an exclusive group that is dependantly defined and the people can relate to. Once you explain to it you have to put in just like before but the benefactors might grow to arbitary numbers over night it wont work anymore.
On the other hand you can admit anyone in as long as everyone individually gets to choose wether they want to associate with the other guy or not. Individualism.
You just can't have both. Society open to everyone that demands mutual support from everyone or vice versa.
