ITT: Post a picture, tell a story about it.

This was taken in Busan, South Korea. It's hard to see, but it was drizzling a bit at the time, and a few minutes later, it was pouring rain. I didn't bring an umbrella, and I was completely lost. I stopped under an awning outside of a restaurant to use my phone, and a Korean guy (maybe in his 40s) who happened to be driving by at the time stopped his car, got out, handed me an umbrella, got back in his car, and drove off, all without saying a single word. I tried to politely refuse (I actually like the rain), but he wouldn't take his umbrella back.

i wish the picture was as interesting as the story

There's a small village outside of Taipei called Houtong. It used to be a mining town, but once the mines ran dry, everyone moved out, and now it only has a permanent population of about 10 people. There is, however, a large population of stray cats that live there, and countless cat themed shops and restaurants have popped up over the last decade or so.

Newfag here and I cant afford an actual camera so pre apologies in order,

The other night I ditched my work site at 2am so I could wake my significant other up so we could drive 30 minutes outside of Stillwater Minnesota to witness the northern lights for our first times. We weren’t out for very long but I would say it was the most memorable moment of my life so far.

I also do frequent urban exploration and have a slew of stories and pictures from that if you guys are interested in that. Thank you for your time :)

It was a nice lovely day outside after the rain. A rose came up after pollen has fallen on it from Spring. In a pot in my backyard I saw a rose. The rose had a nice beauty to it I'd like to share with the world. As a result, I ran inside to grab my Canon T2i with an Edmika Mount 35-105mm Canon FD lens on my T2i. Going to the cloudy white balance setting since it was Cloudy I set my camera to 400 ISO with an F/stop of F/11. I focused in the flower at the macro setting of the lens, making sure I didn't mess up. On the computer I went into Gimp editing it a bit. Afterwards it's here now.

Dumb idea for a thread, if your picture can’t tell the story without you having to do a creative writing exercise along with it, perhaps your picture just isn’t that interesting. Would any photo in this thread be notable at all on its own? What kind of turbo snapshitter cope is this “give it a story” nonsense lol

Sounds like you have no good stories to share, and looks like you have no good images to share either. Quite sad.

Trash quality but I decided to put up a camera and record a hummingbird baby in a nest. Started livestreaming it so I could monitor from wherever and have youtube record it for free.
Going to mount a mft camera and run it into a capture card then stream that in a day or two, but for now this is comfy.

I managed to narrowly miss an oncoming thunder storm by a few minutes on my way to to the station. I had a while to wait for my train, so I took a few shots of the cyclists braving the storm.
I was really lucky to get this shot, somehow the subject is perfectly in focus.
I got a few more photos I'm happy with which I'll also share.

This water heater(?) unit is out back behind an abandoned summer home in the Cherokee National Forest. The home itself was built in the 60-70s and was at one point owned by a wildlife photographer and his artist wife. This home and another adjacent to it were abandoned in the early 2000s after floods in the area destroyed access to the property and the place has rapidly decayed since then thanks to the humidity and near-constant rain.

The first time I ever did street photography was a few years ago in Honolulu. Most people (like picrel) didn't even notice, but at one point I was walking down the street as the sun was setting, and I saw a guy standing under an awning outside of a restaurant. He was maybe five feet away from me horizontally, and a foot or two above me. I tried sneakily taking his picture while I was walking past, but what I hadn't realized at the time, was that my camera's built-in flash was set to auto, and it went off right in his face. I was extremely embarrassed and apologized profusely, but luckily he was cool with it and just laughed it off.

Went to a boarding school for a couple of years in my teens. This one Sunday night I wake up in my bunk bed to someone talking gibberish in my room. Nonsensical stuff from a dry throat. Voice sounds like sand paper. Could not understand anything. Even if there were a lot of prank going on in the boarding house it was highly unusual for someone to be in my room on then. I normally had the room to myself over the weekends as my roommate went home to his family on Friday and would come back on Monday. The talking came from near the window, which I kept open overnight. Since I lived on the ground floor, the window could have allowed someone to climb in from the courtyard, which I did myself to sneak out to parties and stuff. Given these circumstances and the fact that it was pitch dark in my room I was fairly freaked out upon waking up. I was half expecting a stranger in my room. Tell the person to cut it out and get the fuck out. But the nonsensical gibbering continues the same way as before. I don't have a lamp, in my bunk bed, so have to get up and walk to a lamp on my desk to see who is in my room. Finally gather myself and climb out of my bunk bed. Ill never forget the feeling of turning my back to the center of my pitch dark room from where the voice come as a climb down the bunk bed ladder. (1/2).

Turn my light on and see this Mexican housemate of mine sit in my armchair. Bare chested, in his pajama pants, tooth paste smeared all over his face and chest. Talking in his sleep, in Spanish which is why I didn't understand anything. He's shivering because its in the middle of the winter and hes sitting half naked next to the window. Probably had some toothpaste in his mouth too on account of his dry voice. Decide not to wake him as I heard stories of sleep walking people screaming when you wake them. Pissed off because I have exams and need sleep I go into the houses kitchen to see pic related and two boxes of milk spilled all over the floor. Guy eventually woke up by himself and went to his bed. My theory is he played out a morning routine in his sleep. Probably usually used some face moisturizer but picked up the tooth paste instead. Then went into the kitchen to make "breakfast", possibly for the entire boarding house, given the amount of bowels. He sometimes hung out in my room and would sit in that exact chair, hence why he came in and sat down. Guy just probably just wanted to hang out. The end.

I've been going to the same spot to get a photo of any type of critter or bird on a specific branch for the last two months, I wait there drinking coffee and eating breakfast for about 45 minutes. So far, not even a damn bug has landed there.
It's become a weekly tradition now tho, and it overlooks a small creek that drops down about 50ft, when it gets foggy and you can't see the tops of the trees I feel like I'm in the deep woods of British Columbia.
I took this shitty photo from my phone, against a harsh sunny spot beaming down on my stuff.

I used to be a total shut-in loser who never left the house. And to a certain extent, I still am. But a few years ago I got a DSLR for Christmas, and I don't know why, but I fucking loved it. I took pictures of literally everything I could. I started traveling to places that I never would have even considered going to beforehand, just because I wanted to take pictures. If I had never gotten that camera, my "NEETness" probably would have just gotten worse and worse over the years.
This is one of the very first pictures I ever took, minutes after I got my camera on Christmas morning a few years back. Sure it might not be all that great, but fuck me if it didn't change my life in a huge way.

In April 2022 I was canoeing down a river taking photos of birds, turtles, etc. About 4 hours in I was getting close to my landing spot, which is my land. I heard what I thought was really loud frogs and kept getting closer and closer to the sound. When I got close enough I finally saw the two calves trapped on the riverbank below this drop off. Somehow they had slipped down there and couldn't get back up. I knew who owned that pasture so I continued on until I got back home and called the farmer to let him know they were down there. Him and his son went and rescued them. Still one of my favorite pictures I've taken even though its m43. Compressed version because this board won't allow large files lol

Reflecting on the story of the picture, I understand that feeling of bitterness from loss after my grandmother passed away. I know losing a grandmother is a joke to a lot of people, but she was the mother of my life for a long time when my actual mother couldn't take care of me due to her mental disabilities.
