Does anyone own an old English-language Lumix DMC-LX5 (or 3 or 7) and would be willing to help dump a copy of the ROM using the service menu? I can provide instructions if so (it writes a ~23kb text file to the SD card). I'm trying to change my Japanese-only model to English (has no language setting in the menu), I found instructions for other Lumix series but not the LX ones. e.g. https://www.microfournerds.com/blog/lumix-japanese-to-englishThe feature can be accessed in the LX5 by holding Up and Record (red button) simultaneously while turning the camera on, then inside the wrench menu is the ROM BACKUP option, DSC>SD will write a LX5U.TXT file to the SD card containing the dump. The instructions involved searching for certain byte patterns (0000,0000,270f,6363,270f,6363) and changing one before rewriting the backup to the camera, but the order of bytes on mine is different and I don't want to risk taking a blind stab at it until I can compare to an actual english dump.

>>4372853Yeah the firmware update is there, but it doesn't change the factory-set language.
Are you sure it is possible to change the language? I know certain older lumix cameras have a premium over the Japanese versions because it is impossible to change the language.
>>4373503No one's confirmed it yet, but I want to give it a shot. I have a hunch which byte to try changing relative to the other cameras' workarounds. Was hoping to get some confirmation before I potentially brick it, but it is like 12 years old at this point and I barely ever use it. Not that the language is even really a problem, I already know my way around the menus, but it's just kind of annoying and I wanted to try messing with it.
