I pay for flickr premium so I have an online backup of my jpegs and I post occasionally on instagram and foto. If you want quality the only real option in my opinion outside hosting your own website is flickr.

The worst part is managing the database, but there are a lot of tutorials for that.Then you just need to follow a basic tutorial on installing MariaDB, Nginx or Apache, PHP and WordPress, and you have a site. If you buy a domain and open your ports, you can access it on the internet, otherwise, it'll just be on your local network. Hardware-wise, a Raspberry Pi will suffice, or an old laptop. If you don't wish to dump all your photos in raw format, SSD (or SD card) speed is more important than size.Of course, if you open your site to the internet, you'll have to worry a bit about security and ongoing maintenance (making sure that all software is up to date). But it's not that hard and you have a lot more creative control and freedom than when using social media.

It is rather strange that instagram with its monopoly and the current rise in hipsteresque photography does nothing to cater to such a clientele. Then there are sites like Vero which was a good idea, but is not going anywhere. Both platforms have neglected PC users which is a shame.
