I deal with this in motorsports. Most of the time I go in looking for a specific shot, like this one. I know the car or bike is on its run and that will take time, I'm already set up for the shot so I get it and purposely set the camera aside to watch its run, though it's still ready if something happens.Don't forget to live in the moment, not everything has to be recorded.

Track motorsports is a bit of a cheat, since the many laps give you ample oppertunities to take a photo and also just enjoy the race. But the idea is the same.Enjoy the environment. Take photos of the things you think will be worth keeping. If for some reason you think every single scene needs to be remembered and recorded, you want video which can be set up with an action camera hands-free. I've never gone to an event or landmark and thought everything needs to be snapped.
