WHY NO /AHSG/?

>Quick Rundown
Beryl is passing Jamaica and is slightly weakening though is doing much better than expected. The shear is being reduced better than expected, and generally the storm structure is better than expected. Storm has been trending north to somewhat likely Texas implications. Strength can very to Cat 1 to Cat 4 for second landfall (if there's a first one) and there are serious implications down the road. The shear should wear off in the next few hours and we'll see the environment improve for intensification for Beryl to Beryl her way to H-town.

>1100 AM EDT Thu Jul 04 2024

>Beryl continues to weaken due to the effects of westerly shear.

We'll have a strong Cat 1 hitting a resort town. Don't forget, Ike was a Cat 1 when it made landfall in Galveston. 100+ mph winds are no joke. I think I heard yesterday that the projected storm surge for Yucatan is 6 feet. So we will definitely start seeing some coastal flooding soon.

Not on the final leg of it's Yucatan approach according the Accuweather yt video yesterday that I watched.

winds at flight level.

Houstonian here - Harvey was bad because it was slow and kept in the area much longer than normal storms because of the weird turn it did at the end. That sent feeder bands into Houston for a couple of days strait.
Nothing about the strength is what affected it. Yeah, it was strong when it hit, but it hit in the middle of nowhere.

Derechos, and other severe weather events (including potential tornadoes) are not super uncommon and more likely to occur across the entire region around that time of year.

Beryl is intensifying and is currently intensifying. The shear is just about gone, and generally the storm structure is better than expected.
