What would you call the process whereby it sucks now but worked better in the past? This seems to happen to everything and it's affecting my ability to look shit up.

Basic historical facts are in jeopardy. It's really quite a nuthouse out there. And I'm talking about the vetted Fact Checked sources.

I reckon old google did something like an exact pattern match while the current ones do is use ai like algorithms where your search gets converted to a vector and it looks for similarity

Almost no jeets and the internet was more decentralized.

I read some long story about it, but the tl;dr version is: some predator jeet known for screwing up companies took over Google search in the mid 2010's and now it's useless.
>>
If you are tech saavy however, searching for information is easier than ever if you know nlp and web scraping.
>>
>>514353627
Jeets
Bing and duckduxkgo which uses results from Bing is also shit

The only semi good search engine left is yandex a Russian search engine, funny how a Russian search engine is the most free and uncensored.

Funny how we in the west used to mock China and North Korea for being surveillance police states, and now we're trying to ban encryption and private communications, put backdoors in all our electronics, keep massive Troves of personal data on every citizen that makes it so so spy agencies and ad companies can predict what you are thinking, arresting and improsoning people for wrongthink
>>
>>514353627
>the process whereby it sucks now but worked better in the past
enshittification.
it's a technical term.
>>
>>514353627
The term is enshitification

The unfortunate thing is that basically all search engines descend from either Google or bing and both got shitty. Brave search descends from one of them but I have noticed it's better sometimes.

I think part of it is that everything used to be on the open web and now the vast majority of stuff is hidden behind apps and logins for Facebook/Instagram .. now AI has started abusing and monetizing what's left out in the open and they will lock down access to them
>>
Planned obsolescence

It was unironically too effective by instantly showing relevant results which meant they couldn't get much ad revenue, so things spiralled from there and here we are.

Nah it's more than likely Indian coding. Every website on the Internet has ads through Google's ad network. Google gets paid 99 cents and the site gets a penny per dollar. Bing is pretty pathetic as well. Yandex is still decent for the most part.
>>
>>514353627

Don't google shit yourself, use Gemini to google shit for you.
>>
>>514353627
Google is intentionally making its search results worse so that people will use their Gemini service as a replacement for traditional Google search. They want this because it gives them more engagement, more data, and more control over the information which is presented to the user.

>>
>>514353910
Probably this or something like this. Basically old Google worked on keywords, entering a couple of words would yield better results and you would get answers from more various sources. New Google has been altered to work with the normie brain way of asking a question. Parallel to this you had redditification, where instead of getting a wider range of websites and sources like forums that would closely match the keywords, the query now gets filtered into approved websites that are either something like Reddit or Wikipedia or some consoom product thing. The final nail in the coffin is the AI generated answer being the first result, essentially ensuring that people don't go on deep dives that could deviate from approved narratives.

3 factors
1. Returning 100 million results is more expensive than returning 100
2. Google makes money with ads. If people find what they need immediately, they spend less time searching. This means less ad money. Shitty results = more ad revenue
3. Google also makes money promoting content. You pay Google to boost your results, you get to be at the top. It has gotten so egregious that Google changes what your search is to return results that target sponsored content

Jeets are responsible but not due to shitty code. This is an intentional business decision to extract as much money as possible. The jeet C suite ousted anyone outspoken to this philosophy and the shareholders love them for it
>>

Advertising and its consequences are a net negative for value generation. Only retards are susceptible to ads, which don't correlate to product quality.

- Billboards, which are illegal in certain municipalities, will be illegal everywhere.
- Advertising to the public will be illegal anywhere other than a storefront or venue.
- Attempts at circumvention such as paying for or creating shill accounts will carry the death penalty.
- Advertising to subscribers will carry the death penalty. Subscription models will have to support the business model solitarily.
>Ultimately
- If people want to be advertised to they can OPT-IN to advertising streams and have that goyslop sent directly to their phone.
- Having the tick box to opt in to advertising by default will carry the death-by-torture penalty.

Advertising should be viewed as an assault on the psyche. It is nothing more than a private profit-seeking psychological operation.

Vote for me for benevolent dictator of the global utopia.

Late last century and early 2000’s, the CIA policy to undermine foreign regimes was to use free speech to undermine their authoritarian grip: places like facebook and google were given seed funding and help.

Today, it has become apparent to our governments that authoritarianism is the only way to stay in power, thus they’ve adopted censorship. Now everything must become obfuscated.

2. Google branched out to owning youtube and other shit, and it promotes its own websites to the detriment of search results
3. Scumbags with shitty aggregator websites whose business model is just to get clicked on and serve ads and steal data and have no interest whatsoever in actually being a good source of information have been figuring out for years how to make their garbage websites appear at the top of searches and they've become exceedingly efficient at it

the internet is dying because it's been shared too far. much of what you suspected as bots has actually been outsourced thirdies reciting from scripts and following flow-charts. someone handed them smartphones and said the world is an open society. they don't know or care what the internet was supposed to be. everything is just another mercenary slum-hustle for pocket peanuts, helping to echo and amplify a mainstream (or subversion) narrative when they're not simply noise polluting

That's why monopolies suck, they can just chase the quarterly profits growth disregarding everything else and their enterprise won't really take a hit because there is no alternative to it.
Fortunately AI massively lowered the entry barrier in everything related to software. Those niche devs that you had to have in order to get into some industry will no longer be that important any longer.

>>514373652
