Commie blocks are unironically the best way to live as a rentoid if they are maintained well and are not in a segregated neighborhood. The apartments are well designed and the blocks are usually integrated in larger urban environments with supermarkets, health care, schools, and parks always close by. Also, by now all the commie block areas have a lot of grown vegetation making it usually one of the greenest districts of their respective cities. When you go into these threads all the criticism of commie blocks always boil down to two things. The most common problem with modern commie blocks are not the infrastructure itself but the vermin infesting it.

I stayed at one in Estonia. More attractive than picrel. The stairways were spotless and clean. The doors were like nuclear bunker doors. The soundproofing was incredible, couldnt hear anything. They had communal heating, so warm I was sweating. Outside was pretty depressing and desolate. Dodgy people obviously lived there, but dodgy things generally appeared to happen low key and mostly behind closed doors
