Why do norms all go on the defense and try to say no you when you tell them being a norm is not a virtue?

It's not to convince you that you're wrong, it's to convince themselves that they're right. They don't debate for learning or reasoning, they believe they are superior and the pinnacle of knowledge & perspective, and you having different beliefs found on logic and experience other than indoctrination is a direct affront to them, so they become hostile but are unsure why they're so hostile.
