>The Russian military has now reinstated cavalry units, with soldiers actually riding horses into battle. This is because Ukrainian forces extensively deploy magnetic mines targeting vehicles and motorcycles. These mines attach to tires via magnetism, triggering detonation. Moreover, armored vehicles or cars easily get bogged down in Ukraine's muddy terrain. Once stuck, you have no choice but to abandon the expensive equipment.Horses aren't affected by magnetic mines and can more easily extricate themselves from muddy terrain. Moreover, fodder is far easier to obtain than gasoline.
>>520566594Makes logical sense, is also one of those things you knowJust looks better
The downside is that horses, like humans, are afraid of drones.
>>520566594Cavalry was used fairly extensively in Afghanistan too. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

>>520567021>>520567078Burgers using donkeys in the mountains is definitely the same as Russians using donkeys in the steppe

>>520566594Animal cruelty to put russians to frontlines when they belong in a zoo.
>>520567078Yeah. I know of a kiwi soldier with a hoof shaped scar on his back from a midnight cavalry charge by the Taliban. They didn't really expect it, but suddenly dozens of mounted Taliban tore through their little outpost shooting the shit out of everything and stealing a bunch of shit. They run through one side of the OP and out the other side, never to be seen again. The small unit there sat up for days expecting a more serious attack but it never came.Doesn't sound like it was particularly effective militarily, but it certainly caused psychological damage. Horses were just used for recon and accessing the deeper mountain passes mainly I think.
>>520567291once again a braindead faggot american that doesnt know shityou have 2 options >move fast from strongpoint to strongpointyou being fast gives drones less time to react, youre save at strongpoints because of multiple electronic shit and concentrated fire>move trough treelinesmuch less likely to get spotted but cant use cars obviouslywhich is why a fucking donkey is literally perfect for thathow fucking stupid do you have to be not to realize this yourself?
>>520567780>we're using donkeys because of their tactical advantage, not because we ran out of armorYou have to go back, hurensohn

Find drone operator.Spend next 24 hours torturing drone operator to death Infront of other soldiers beaten bloody.Release soldiers, rinse and repeat.I predict a lack of drone operators.

a horse consumes x2 as many calories as a human. keeping 50 horses fed equals keeping 100 men fed. keeping troops supplied in ukraine is already very difficult, unlike ww1 and ww2 armies there can't use trains to transport supplies to the front (trains get vaporized instantly by missiles/drones) instead supplies have to be "sneaked" to the front using light vechiles moving at top speed at night to avoid detection. in this context, that amount of supplies can put a severe strain on russian/ukranian logistics. Not to mention that hiding horses in basements and rubble isn't exactly easy.
>>520568985Horses can go by feeding themselves , Their food is everywhere, grass, leaves, some roots, dry grass. Even small sticks.
I wonder if the operators would hesitate more at blowing up a horse than a person.

>>520566594Most mines use some sort of pressure plates and the little ankle busters caltrop mines will fuck up a horse. The advantage of the horse is a grass powered vehicle. That's it.
>>520570844This is tradition.
>>520566594Horses are inferior to bikes.>bike can be kept hidden for a day, week, month, under some leaves>horse is big, has to walk around, can't fit in the trench>bike can be recharged by swapping a battery or connecting it to a gas generator; only consumes battery when in use>horse has to be fed, forage, it eats a lot even when you're not using it>bike always listens to you; you don't need much training to ride one>horse has to be trained; learning to ride a horse takes a while>bike has a range of 100km, no need to slow down>horse gets tired after galloping for a bit>bike hits a lepestok and you have to swap a new tire after limping to base>horse hits a lepestok and you have a source of meat that you however have now way of moving other than dragging a few hundred kilos of horseYou shouldn't use horses anywhere closer than 20km to the front line.

>>520566594>Moreover, fodder is far easier to obtain than gasoline.Pretty sure that's the only reason. They can't afford to build and maintain military vehicles.
