My main gripe with Steam is that they have established a virtual monopoly in the gaming space. Many games can only be purchased through steam, and then steam forces you to use their interface to launch the games you've purchased, or rather, the games you've rented. Because Steam is a service provider and they are merely letting you play their games.

My real disdain for steam is the result of their methodology to prevent you from running multiple games YOU think you own on YOUR computers. There should be no check by steam other than to prevent you from running multiple copies of the same title. It should not be their concern if you have 20 gaming computers and you like to walk around your house playing 20 different games through the day... not their concern.

And yet steam will prevent you from launching megabonk if another completely different game title is in use by the same account. Your save data be damned... steam should not be able to do this. Steam should be allowed to only maintain their store, and once a game is purchased it should be able to be launched independent of steam.

It's actually an absurd premis that they are allowed to force you to use their product in order to run a seperate piece of software you have paid for. In some cases steam even prevents games from loading when they would otherwise load fine if not for steam interfering.

Her entire argument is based on misconstruing steam policy.
Valve doesn't care that you sell your games for less on other platforms, they care if you sell STEAM keys for less on them to bypass valves 30% cut.

You are not entitled to someones infrastructure while skirting the fees you agreed to.

American services need to pull the plug on us asap

people will start cancelling the BB subscriptions and lowering their mobile data plans

just flip the switch off on us

Gabe won't take their shit like the gobohomo retards at Apple and Google do. He will just shut off Steam in Britain.

The game creators / publishers themselves set the prices, it's a hell of a thing to say that's unfair. What's next, a maximum price for sausages in the UK? What about really fancy ones like the King eats?

Somebody has to stand up to these faggots eventually and Gabe already has more yachts than he can spread his fat ass out upon at once. He needs to do this for America. Enough with collecting more yachts and shit. Make a stand. Do it for America.
>>
>>527133852
>steam forces you to use their interface to launch games
Untrue. The game devs/publishers are at fault for this.
>prevent you from running multiple games YOU think you own on YOUR computers.
You can run like 20+ games on one computer, or use offline mode for multiple computers.
>once a game is purchased it should be able to be launched independent of steam.
Again, not Steam's fault, but the devs/publishers. The majority of games I have can be copied and installed on a different pc without Steam and work just fine.

DRM was getting made around that time or PC gaming was going to die. And I'm not even being dramatic here. Before steam became big PC was getting monkey version of some games, including sport ones(officially it was because it didn't have the performance needed but it was happening during late PS2 era and PS2 was getting the "full" versions unsurprisingly) while PC developers were being pushed by publishers and investors to make console games, often going bankrupt after releasing trash in the process. Even the mere promise of DRM(that was cracked in hours) being there was enough to calm down all the retarded suits about the looming threat of piracy(if you download $60 game the publisher loses $60, download it 1000 times to steal $60k from them) while also changing a lot of market dynamics to make smaller games in niche genres, PC speciality, more viable commercially.
That it was Valve that benefitted from it is one thing, but if all companies a privately owned one that responds to no shareholders isn't structurally the worst thing to be in this place. Again a bit of history for you - there was one serious competitor steam had in the early days. Games for windows live. Initially with paid online, like on consoles. That was the alternative scenario to Steam or PC gaming simply dying out of suits gatekeeping games and funding for games out of it.

Because it’s totally retarded? Steam sells games for $30 while other studios like Nintendo sell them for $80.
Also why the fuck is the British government interfering in the free market? Is Britain a communist state now?
>>
>This, Ms Shotbolt argues, has enabled Steam to charge an "excessive commission of up to 30%", making UK consumers pay too much for purchasing PC games and add-on content.
Case in point how mainstream economics are retarded. Steam consistently provides so much utility that players don't give a shit if Valve comission is 30%, nobody is losing here other than retarded greedy companies and their platforms (uplay, origin)

>Steam regional pricing adjusts game costs based on local economic conditions, purchasing power, and currency exchange rates, rather than a direct, flat conversion from USD. While Valve provides recommended, lower prices for specific countries to combat high costs and piracy, publishers have ultimate control to set, accept, or modify these regional prices.

And there it is. There's the real reason. Microtransaction bloated slop shovelers are butthurt steam gets a cut of their cash cow. Sell for less on other platforms than steam? Bi-anually games going on sale for like fucking 90% off stream. Don't make me laugh. It's got nothing to do with the consumer and everything with wanting to be able to squeeze more out without steam taking a cut.

The only reason the case was deemed admissible, is because admissibility only looks at whether claims are logical and reasonable. Not at whether they are true or not. And these aren't. None of the three claims are.
