Subcultures used to be where you were in a group of people IRL, at a concert, rave, football game, card shop, drag strip, etc. Now everything's on the internet and there's no way to gatekeep the outsiders, and we get fucked.

Subcultures start isolated. They'd catch on in one place and then spread outside of the public eye, developing their own styles, jokes, and culture as they went. By the time normies were aware of them, they already had an identity. Now the smallest shit hits the Internet immediately and is is branded cringe and dies immediately or people like it and it turns into a fad that burns out after a week. Either way, nothing organic leaves a lasting impact. Now, mainstream culture's only shifted by concerted media astroturfing from deep pockets.
