>>528317638Online is where most radio listening is going - low power FM is only going to give you small coverage and if you pirate on high sites you will soon get a visit from the plods.Most broadcasters just stream online and use internet to get program to their transmitters anyway now.Get a static IP address and set up a Shoutcast or Icecast streamer - look at the resources RNZ has and they are on the ropes in NZ. I imagine Whangarei would still get some coverage from Auckland FM as well?Ex TVNZ tech here

The main Commercial stations have 3 Kordia run transmission towers in the middle of Northland and on Maungatuniwha in the Far north.The LPFM is where I've been since I was 17, I'm almost 40 now. I had a transmission site on top a hill for years on 5W getting mid north coverage, only stopped by the S bends hills around Tangowahine toward Dargaville.My polytech tutor had 3 LPFM stations in Whangarei and got me into it.Streaming online was a big thing, but you will be surprised what analogue tech is making a resurgence. Like vinyl and cassette tapes.Community Radio Stations are very popular in Northland.And I would imagine 4chan would do wonders having a global terrestrial radio network to play with.It could be done, and for very cheap.

I like the bottom end of the band because you get better range, and the radio propagates over and around stuff better at the bottom of the band.I'd never go over 5 watt in the city.There was 1 guy years ago that was broadcasting at 20 watt. He had his equipment taken from him and fined $150,000 by RSM.

This is happening LIVE in Taipa, Northland now. They are all on the Taipa bridge. Back before YouTube was a thing, there was a thing called Icecast https://icecast.org/which is software was dead simple, let's you add a bunch of media files (like audio or video) and then stream them 24/7 like a radio station. And people also discover your stream, I remember installing the Wimamp plugin to see the streams. But I think any decent media player (like VLC) should also be able to just play the stream via a link.You can promote your station this way and also let people listen to older episodes.Why do that when there are things like YouTube now that let you stream 24/7? Because if you host it yourself you don't have to worry about them shutting you down for *their* ToS or whatever.
